Beautiful Hotel. Stunning remodel. Unfortunately they were not quite ready for prime time despite…read morenicely decorated and remodeled appearances.
We experienced some service issues when our tub unexpectedly spilled three inches of water on to the floor of our bathroom through a release value in the floor at 10 pm last night. Apparently the plumbing could not take regular bath drainage, so the plumbing was set up to release all the bath water on to the floor. It was pouring out on to the floor like a creek and water then pooled in 2-3 standing inches through a large bathroom. I slipped several times trying to get out of the bath and tried to grab on to the wall.
Next there was only person at the front desk and she informed us she could not leave her post. Completely understaffed. There was no one to help and this must be a two hundred room hotel. Eventually the front desk called to say she was sending up a member of the kitchen staff, who threw towels at the floor and at us without cleaning up and told us that this was not her area of expertise before leaving abruptly. I called down again saying that this wasn't okay. I didn't want to clean this up myself, as it was a remarkable amount of water and I didn't know if this was strictly bath water that come up from the floor. I was told she was the only one really at the hotel and we would have to wait until a shift change at 11:30 pm before she could come up herself. Meanwhile I stopped draining the tub so that more would not spill on to the floor. She offered to switch rooms which I said heck yes to. Then she called back and said she could send someone to help.
Next they sent up the chef from the kitchen (!) who was very handy thankfully and he kindly cleaned the floors and opened a window because the room had become warm and humid. He was a nice guy. He asked if he should send up more towels for showers since we had used all ours on the floor and we said yes please! Of coarse they never came (including the following morning by shower time.) At check out, I received an acknowledgement and compensation for the flooding of the bathroom in the form of peanuts. Yes, literally a flipping bag of peanuts.
When staying four stars, you have expectations about service quality that weren't met here. You'd hope for an ability to control the temperature in the room for instance, which doesn't exist here (if you stay here get a window that opens as the hotel is stuffy), working plumbing (!) and a full staff that is there sufficiently at off hours so if things break, as they inevitably do in a large hotel with over 4 floors, there is someone can address it. (Let alone for hotel security and security of the guests and the staff.)
Again, a really beautiful remodel but the basics aren't yet covered here. Everything from plumbing, service after hours, room temperature control to on sight parking. On the plus side, the staff was nice despite being understaffed, the ceilings were high and the rooms are large and can accommodate families (large bed plus pull out couch that sleeps two.) The breakfast bar is terrific, down to the plattar! Hopefully, they will get there in time.
