My review is of the San Diego County Social Workers and the County System as a Whole…read more The social services system within the County of San Diego is, without question, one of the most dysfunctional and disheartening public institutions I have ever had to rely on. The structure in place is completely reprehensive--built on delays, miscommunication, and a lack of urgency that actively harms the people who genuinely need help. Recently, I submitted all the documents requested to have my food stamps reinstated under an emergency situation. Our household's food supply was set to run out in three days or less, and I made this explicitly clear. After turning in the paperwork, I called on Monday to verify everything had been received and to explain that we had an urgent need. Despite that, I was essentially given the runaround. The person I spoke with told me there were additional items required--items that the previous staff member never informed me about. Had I been told initially, those documents would have been submitted over the weekend along with the others. Because of this lack of communication and accountability, no one at the county was able to confirm whether we would receive our food stamp allotment before the weekend. As it stands, my children may end up having nothing to eat until they return to school on Monday morning. The fact that a system designed to prevent hunger can't even guarantee food for children over a weekend--after being notified of the urgency--is absolutely outrageous. This isn't just an inconvenience. It's a failure of basic responsibility and human decency. The county's lack of consideration for my children's well-being and nutritional needs is unacceptable. Families should not be left in limbo because information wasn't properly communicated. Emergencies should be handled within one business day--especially when children's access to food is at stake. San Diego County must confront the painful truth: its social service system does not serve the vulnerable. Instead, it traps people in bureaucratic loops that delay urgent help and create unnecessary suffering. I demand real, meaningful change--communication that is consistent, processing that is timely, and a system that recognizes the real-world consequences of its inaction. No family should ever have to fear a weekend without food because of preventable administrative failures.

I submitted a claim, as we were NOT prepared and lost a lot of groceries as well as breast milk. The claims representative called and said the claim was denied, and that a notice was sent out. She rudely hung up on me when I asked for the timestamp of the email and phone call sent out (knowing that it was not). I called the emergency line to be transferred to non emergency, as you do not get a live agent when you call the 1-800-611-7343. The service rep confirmed that no notifications were sent out to my home, and that I had only 1 of the following options: 1. Accept a $100 credit on my account, and do not pursue the claim. 2. Do not accept the $100 credit, and pursue the claim. *for those that need to contact the claims department, there is no option, nor is there a way to get there from the automated menu. If you are reading this review, for the claims department, call 858-650-4100* I chose the latter, and was transferred to the claims department. Immediately met with a voicemail greeting (no option for live person). I left a voicemail, and am awaiting follow up. After throwing away closer to $1000 worth of groceries (freezer in garage and fridge/freezer in home), this is one of the most frustrating things I have ever dealt with regarding a company.
