AVOID AT ALL COSTS I…read moremean this with no exaggeration whatsoever: I have never been so insulted, belittled, and infantilized by a medical practitioner in my entire life. This sorry excuse for a doctor does not give a rat's rear end about his patients, just their/their insurance companies' $$$. For my first appointment with him, which was the first time I was able to see a primary care doctor in a couple years, I needed a referral to a neurosurgeon for a very obvious spinal problem that I have from failed back surgery. Dr. Groan-felt here spends about 12 of our 15 minutes together going over my medication list (which I had gone over twice with the MA already) and then gives me the sorriest excuse of a physical "examination" I've ever seen, i.e. I got up on the table, was not even asked to remove my sweatshirt, and he listened to my heart/breathing for maybe 30 seconds, after which I was rudely dismissed. At the end of an appointment, especially for a new patient, I think most any doc would ask something along the lines of "do you have any other questions or concerns?". Dr. G? Not a chance. as soon as we hit the 15-minute mark on that appointment he handed me a lab form basically shooed me out and told me to come back in three weeks. Indignant, I asked if he was going to give me the referral to a neurosurgeon. He said we'd talk about it in three weeks, and when I pushed harder he condescendingly offered to write me an X-ray order, as if I didn't have X-rays, CTs, and two MRIs from the past year. Merely having the radiologist's reports for all of this was not enough, either, and he insisted he see the images himself before giving me the referral. What a petty, sad, miserable man to indulge in such schadenfreude. Oh, and after all that time spent going over my medications, my prescriptions never got sent in. It took six phone calls over seven days for his genius of a front office person to figure out she'd sent them to not just the wrong CVS, but one that had been closed for over a year. And the whole time she was convinced it was somehow my fault... Run far away; go see literally any other doctor.

I took the appointment and went on a "wait list" for any openings. As always I figured - wait list - I never get called. Well I did, just 2 Days. My experience was a good one. I was checked in by an amazing lady. Then my pre-visit for vitals was great and ultimately my visit was good and we are moving forward to fix me all up. Additionally the online portal is beyond fabulous. I feel that I'm in excellent communications and that is so helpful when you work and may not be able to look at these things during normal business hours.

He forcefully pulled my son out of me causing severe trauma to both me and him and then proceeded to stitch me up WITHOUT ANESTHESIA I was screaming and he kept going while nurses told me to quiet down. I have so much birth trauma from this negligent OB, he ended up losing his OB license shortly after the birth of my son as he was responsible for further negligence with other mothers & babies. You are better off going to absolutely anyone else besides this man. I really liked him up until my induction and delivery where I clearly didn't matter. Horrible doctor that left me refusing OB care for YEARS after.

She clearly had not read my medical intake form and was oblivious to the fact that I have a lot on my plate as someone recently diagnosed with cancer, who just moved back to California, and who was living about an hour away from a sizeable town. She would not do one month bridge prescriptions for me to get established with the doctor's office she recommended I contact (who was out of network for me anyway.) Running out of your ADHD meds that you need to work, when you're an hour away from a pharmacy and you scheduled your appointments in advance because you were relocating to a new state, is not fun. The drug testing she required before I saw her felt punitive too. Nothing came back positive on it, though if she thinks I'm "too complex" because I have insomnia and ADHD, I can't imagine what she would be like to deal with for people who have a positive drug test. She was not only unhelpful, she actively wasted my time and money, and added more stress and headache onto my plate when I have enough of that with cancer.

I was assigned Dr. Roy Harris as my PCP. Although I prefer to have a female PCP, I was okay with scheduling all of my appointments with his NP Janina. She was awesome, but eventually moved out of state. I then scheduled with NP Wendy and was happy for the most part with the care I received. At around the time she retired, the practice brought a female MD on board. I thought, "Great, I can finally have a female MD as my PCP!" Her profile described her as exactly the doctor I had been waiting for. When I called the office to schedule an annual physical with her, I was told NO because Dr. Harris was my PCP. I told the scheduler that I was not comfortable with a male performing a physical and asked to change my PCP to Dr. Michelle Do. I was told that had to be "approved" by someone named Cynthia in the office and I would receive a call back later that day. While awaiting the call back (which never happened), I started reading reviews online and was appalled by the multiple negative reviews of Dr. Harris specifically. At that point, I was not just uncomfortable with having a male PCP, but with him being my PCP. It took two more calls to the office that week to ultimately be told by Cynthia that I could NOT change my PCP assignment. It did not matter to her that in 10 years, I had never had one appointment with him or that I was completely uncomfortable with him. She claimed the practice has a policy about switching doctors. When I asked for the policy via my patient portal, she admitted that there was nothing in writing. Anyone in health care knows that if it is not in writing, then it doesn't exist. She was incredibly rude and dismissive. By the end of my phone call, the scheduler Roberta and Queen Cynthia confirmed the following: If I were a brand new patient, then I could choose Dr. Do as my PCP. Because I was already a patient, I no longer had a choice. (Whichever PCP a patient starts with is who they are stuck with.) If I wanted an annual physical with a female, then I could schedule with a nurse practitioner or physician's assistant. The female MD in their office was not a choice for me simply because my assigned PCP was Dr. Harris. Their supposed "policy" of not allowing patients to change their PCP is completely disrespectful. Brand new patients have a choice but established patients do not. Their website claims to "deliver personalized health care" and that their "philosophy is to provide individualized care", yet they will not allow patients to have a say in who provides their care. Horrible business model.

Dr. Carpio's office said the final step was to come to their office for an intake appointment. Mind you, we had NO MEDICAL NEED TO DO THIS. The three of us went and had our 8 minute "nice to meet you, quick medical background review" appointment and went home. We were billed $800 for these appointments. With a high deductible plan, that comes out of my pocket. $800 for an appointment we didn't need. SHAME ON THEM. A fee was never discussed beforehand and I never assumed there'd be a charge since we DID NOT ASK FOR OR NEED THE APPOINTMENT. Worse yet, Dr. Carpio refused to return the multiple messages i left for him to discuss the matter. I won't even go into the BS "coding" that was done to "correctly" bill the appointments. The coding referenced things that weren't even discussed in the appointment. Dr. Carpio is part of the problem. Charging/coding for things that were never discussed to justify a fee. It's not how a normal business is supposed to run but it's how we've all accepted the medical/insurance industry runs. We've since found another primary care physician and the last thing their intake person told us prior to hanging up the phone was "you do need to come in for an appointment to finalize your onboarding as new patients but LET'S WAIT UNTIL YOU ACTUALLY HAVE A NEED before we do that." I will never go to SUTTER or DR. CARPIO again. Other medical groups and doctors offer the same level of service at a much more affordable price.
