What attracted me first to the salon was the fact they have a little resident dog (a king edward spaniel I think) always either sitting at the window, or in summer, just outside. The salon itself has a vintage boudoir feel and is not that huge. It's always pretty busy so make sure you book in advance. I've been there two or three times now but have never left fully satisfied. Although the staff are efficient, helpful and friendly and the salon is really beautifully designed, the actual hair styles I have received have fallen below my personal standards. I always feel there is a danger with these places that they may give you the hair style that's most "in vogue" for them / around that area and, sadly, here that is true. I've had a Rod Stewart mullet a few times and I've left a little dissatisfied. For the price, this place is probably not worth it. Unfortunately, here, it's a case of style of substance.

I had a total melt down, I've been dying my hair for over 11 years, (level 7 naturally, so it's quite an easy lift) and nothing like this had ever happened before. I called ESHK crying and sent them photos, and they sent me Ricky, who has 25 years + of experience, and a bleach specialist. Ricky made me feel cared for from Day 1 - and assured me that he'd be with me every step of the way to fix this, spending over 5 hours in the chair each session with me to painstakingly correct the broken (and orange!!) mess. Three sessions later and my hair is back on its way to being healthy. The straw like texture I left the original stylist with is - dare I say it- almost silky? I've found my London hairdresser for life. Blondes - go to Ricky! Side note- the entire ESHK team are some of the loveliest and kindest people I've met- the salon is so comfortable, welcoming, and you can tell the people who work there love eachother and their jobs. It is always difficult to find your hairdresser in a new city. After experimenting with a few…read moresalons in London and leaving unsatisfied, I discovered The Lounge in Soho. Conveniently located by Berwick Street market (which is how I first noticed it), The Lounge is a cool little salon adjacent to the sex shops of Walker's Court. I made a booking with Ferdia through their seamless online reservation system, which I wish all salons offered. Their system allows you to select your hairdresser (or use the first available) and the service(s) you are after, choose the date you would like to come in, and then it shows you all available times that you can then instantly book. Simple and stress-relieving. The first time I came to see Ferdia, I had no clue what I wanted to do with my hair but knew that my partially grown bangs looked atrocious. Her styling and cutting knowledge became readily apparent as she cut my hair into a beautiful "lob" with sideswept bangs (this was early 2013) that accentuated my cheekbones. I was not expecting such a great cut, especially at such reasonable prices. The offer of complimentary coffee, tea, and freshly-delivered brownies improved an already enjoyable experience. Everyone on the staff is very friendly and professional. I have never had anything but a haircut here, but would trust them with anything based on the looks I have seen come out of the salon. Even though I no longer work in Soho, I will make a trip out there just to get my hair cut with Ferdia (okay, and maybe to squeeze in a bit of shopping while I'm at it).

I actually cried about the colour when I got home and I've never actually done that before. Embarrassing. Ouch. He attempted to correct it at a second visit but things were still unfortunately nowhere near what I had wanted. I spoke with Michelle, the fantastically attentive manager, throughout this and when the first correction failed, she finally put me in touch with Lottie, who has gotten me closer to my desired colour and whom I will be seeing from now on. Hopefully in another visit or two she'll have my colour where I wanted it to be. Everyone at the salon went above and beyond to help me out throughout all this, and that's incredibly rare, especially when something fails to meet your expectations. They've gone the extra step to make sure that I'm with a stylist who understands what I'd like out of my hair, and I feel like I'm in very good hands with both Lottie and Michelle in general. As for the salon itself, it's a small footprint with an upstairs (for cutting and clipping) and a downstairs (for colour and washing), located just opposite the Co-Op on Berwick Street. The general feel is very unpretentious and relaxed, with a hip vibe, good energy, and cheerful staff. In terms of accessibility: the stairs down to the wash stations and colouring area are very steep and quite narrow, so if you have any mobility or balance issues, they really might not be for you. The wash station chairs are also a little awkward, and I wouldn't recommend them if you have any neck or upper spine issues. Lighting throughout is exposed/bare fluorescent tubes. Tea, coffee, and sweet nibbles (usually brownies, but this time of year mini mince pies) as well as beer etc are complimentary and a really lovely touch. Prices are in line with the neighbourhood, and the products used are indie brands. So in essence, after a somewhat disastrous start, I now feel like I've actually found an excellent stylist to take care of me. I'll update this review (hopefully with pictures) after my next visit in a couple months' time.

The company actually originates from Japan and salon owner Nic uses Eastern hairdressing techniques such as the Yuko Straightening system. The stylists really take time to understand you and what hair style or colour you are after - Yuki was my stylist and I would definitely recommend her. They also run regular promotions such as free treatments during particular time periods and have VIP rooms and even the internet for those on-the-go type folks. I am one fussy lady when it comes to my hair and have been known on a number of occasions to complain but my experience here was brilliant and left with a gorgeous cut and a lovely shade of blonde!

I have gone here now a few times for a cut because they are local to where I work. Having tried some of the other hairdressers in the area I have given Salon 108 more custom than the others for the main reason that they are more down to earth, less snobby and don't charge a fortune. A wash, cut and blowdry with a senior stylist is £30, which I think is a fair price for today's going rates. The reason, though, that I have only given Salon 108 three stars is that frankly, I'm getting a bit bored with them. Although I've never received a bad cut, per se, I've also never had a cut with them about which I felt particularly excited afterwards. The women who have cut my hair always make sure to be clear with me about what it is we'll be doing to my locks beforehand, but, although the end results have always been satisfactory, they never quite turn out quite as well as I have had in mind. I think I may be looking around next time for somewhere new, as I have never found a stylist at Salon 108 that has really stood out for me as one to stick with, but I will say that if you're in the area and desperate for at least a decent hair cut, they offer a much friendlier atmosphere than some of the other hairdressers in the area.
