She understood my hair journey and I went with her recommendations and couldnt be happier! She gave me a beautiful color to unify my hair (And I came in with like 4 different shades going on because of box dye) she gave me Cecred conditioning treatment which is LIFE CHANGING (just pay the extra money it's sooo worth it) and i really appreciated how she wasn't scissor happy and didnt try to convince me to chop too much off, but got everything that needed to go gone. My experience is usually okay at this one, but I've noticed this the past 2 times I've shopped here. I went in there yesterday afternoon/evening for some skincare products and was met with lackluster customer service and unprofessionalism. I understand being short staffed busy but there wasn't more than two people in line at a time and there were several associates on the floor. Some of them weren't even with customers, they were talking amongst themselves and doing their makeup. The associate who was helping me mainly was not listening to my concerns well either, even after explaining my preferences with products. Even as I got to the register, the employee helped the person in front of me, saw me walk up to the register after the other customer left, and turned their back and started doing another project and when checking out didn't help that well. I visited this Ulta on a Saturday afternoon and the store wasn't very busy. I was looking for a few hair products and they had just about everything I needed. I also grabbed a few beauty items that I didn't need but couldn't walk away from. The store associates were very helpful and a couple of them approached me to ask if I needed any assistance, which I didn't, but appreciated the offers. Pam was GREAT!! I'm in sales in a customer service business myself and she was such a delight. The past few times I have been there I was extremely disappointed with the service of not even being offered any assistance. While I understand that they don't get to everyone-watching a group of 3 younger ladies stand around and chit chat instead of assisting customers is what really frustrated me. Pam not only helped me decided on what concealer to get, she also swatched me with foundation and told me about a new product Dior had to offer. I believe in writing positive reviews over bad ones because 1 person can make a whole company/store look negative but the reflection of one doesn't define the group. I just learned that Aisha is no longer affiliated with Ulta - which was disappointing to me. Whille the staff is helpful at your store - Aisha went the "extra service " manner She anticipated the items which I may wish to purchase which resulted in an "up-sale" from the cost of a Lancôme $45 item to a multi-brand purchase of over $500. She took the time to evaluate my complexion, features and gave multi-brand recommendations to capitalize & improve my appearance. I fully intended to bring my daughter and daughter-in-law in for her assistance. It was my intention to permit twice what I spent on myself for each. However, I am hopeful to locate where Aisha is working now for her assistance. Aisha handled me as I have enjoyed before at high-end marketers. Perhaps had sales made by each person been compared - Aisha's value would have been more visible . Mooresville has zero high end marketers; whereas, Charlotte does. Stopped right at the front door, asked if we were aware of new protocol. Lady asked if we had masks, to which we replied no. They said we could shop curbside or go to a nearby store and purchase masks and come back. We asked if we were allowed to shop, we even asked if they had masks we could wear. They did not have masks and indirectly asked us to leave. Most uncomfortable and worst customer service experience ever! All it takes to step up your service is to provide disposable masks for your customers instead of having to turn them away. Feels weird to leave a detailed on an ulta, but the older I get or maybe the deeper into pandemic I go, the more I find the nuance of solid customer service in the staples stores I frequent. As a resident of several states over the past few years, I've had the opportunity to be a regular at Ultas in a few different areas, in a few different regions(Connecticut, North Carolina, South Florida, Denver). This particular store location has hands down the most attentive staff I've ever come across. Let's be honest- if youre not a department store person, or buying online, youre religious to either ulta or sephora. The benefit of Sephora is the client experience and highend product offerings. but their rewards program stinks(who spends alllllllll that money for a travel sized biddy(not me sweety)). Ulta provides the best of both worlds- on one side you can go high end, and on the other drugstore offerings. and whats that in the way back? a salon? well sure? okay yes why not? the price is right and the rewards program will knock your socks off by giving you SERIOUS cash back when you spend. and I mean serious. First hand- I am telling you it is worth it. I have banked up to 60 bucks off my total purchase(to my chagrin). New to town, I came in to stock up on Murad. Went straight to predictably where Murad exists in most Ulta stores, when a lovely sales associate named MIRANDA approached to ask if I required assistance. This has NEVER happened to me. I love murad because my dermatologists love murad and its cruelty free. But generally associates tend to ignore me as I'm geeking out over science based skin case. Miranda and I had a fantastic discussion about SPF and cleansers. She was helpful in showing me new products and I moved on with more knowledge and excitement for a new exfoliation step in my skin care routine. As I mosied on closer to the cashwrap, I realized in this new climate I was going to want to try to combat dry skin. Being an ingredients creep(ala youtubes Dr Dre and Skincare with Hyram, I began trying to find fragrance free or low fragrance cruelty free lotions on the drugstore side of things. While huffing colorful bottles through my cloth covid-mask, I was approached by the very dapper sales associate names ALLAN. Allan didnt even flinch at my lotion stained mask, or picky request. He showed a variety of options and even worked with Miranda to nail down the specific light line that he knew I would LOVE(which I did) when he had a tough time locating it. Teamwork! As a young professional whose been in client services, as an optimist who is generally the peppiest person in a room full of tired coworkers, as someone who always tries to make peoples day better, I genuinely appreciates Miranda and Alan making me feel so special on this shopping trip into their store. Everyone at store 231 was so attentive. absolutely above and beyond. I had to ask for the store number. My original plan was to climb to customer service tree of ulta, maybe on linkedin to brag about this experience but this will have to do. Kudos team. and feel free to reach out if i can give any other tips. because for anyone complaining about having to wear masks or chatty happy employees who may have missed a greet- everyone has an off day, but I've got to say this location has a great group. I am a professional Chemist and have developed a number of products in this category over the years in the Sun Care and Skin Care areas. Working on a new Sun Care Product now and the the customer indicated he wanted it that have the same fragrance profile as another high end product. Tried on several occasions to get this standard with no luck. Decided to try Ulta in Mooresville. Walked in and asked for particular section and they walked me back to it and there was the sample I was looking for. Problem solved. Looking over the store, I was impressed with the product lines they carry, all mid to high end. I booked online for a signature cut, multidimensional color, highlights, and style. When I arrived the hair stylist didn't even know what I was there for and made it seem like doing a cut and color was going to be a chore and take too long. She then hacked about 6 inches off! I wanted to keep a good 3-4more inches but nope, my hair is gone! This was within the first 5 minutes of sitting down! The color is ok. It has some issues also but I'd be fine with lime green hair as long as the cut was good! I can fix color, I can't fix a bad haircut when there's nothing left to fix! She didn't blend the cut or anything. Literally, just chopped it off straight across! She didn't ask how I normally style my hair, she didn't account for the fact that my hair is wavy and I'm not interested in flat ironing my hair everyday. She didn't ask about shrinkage or what my normal routine is. Nothing! So now my hair poofs out in a triangle at the ends! And unless I flat iron my hair I end up losing a good inch to the curl! It's not cute, it's not elegant, it's not fun, or even trendy. It looks like a cheap ass haircut! I lost $400 (online booking said it would only be $270 so who knows what happened there!) when I honestly could have hacked my hair myself and been happier! I'm now having to wait a month for an appointment at a different salon to fix my color and get extension because I can't live like this. That's going to cost $900! Why couldn't she have taken 5 mins to ask "where do you want your shortest strands to fall?", "why don't we cut a little off at first before the color to get the dead ends off and then when I start to cut your hair after the color we can cut it little by little?"," how do you normally wear and style your hair?", "do you still want to be able to put your hair up in a bun or a pony tail?"!!!! I mean she cut off over half of my hair without even showing me where she was cutting! I thought she was just going to cut 2-3 inches off before coloring my hair but she cut off 6-7inches right from the beginning!!! And she still had to take off 2 more inches to "clean up the chop" at the end!!!! I honestly want to cry thinking about this because I can't go back in time and stop this from happening! This is like a terrible nightmare that came true! I think the hairstylist was tired and just didn't care. I think she was ready to go home and didn't want to deal with another person. I get that, I understand, but I didn't know that when I booked her. It's not even like I booked an appointment for late in the afternoon or the evening! I didn't know I was going to be her last client of the week and that she was tried and ready to go partake in an adult beverage and drive home. I think she was upset that her last client had booked something that was going to take a while. My hair was such an important part of who I was and gave me self confidence. This single hair cut will take years to recover from! I hate how I look now. I hate leaving the house, I hate looking in the mirror, I hate when someone new sees my hair cut I get to see the look of disgust and pity on their faces as they ask me "...where did you go...well, it's only hair...it will grow back". Not one person has said my hair looks nice or even ok. It's always the same "it will grow back...". How embarrassing! Seriously, embarrassing! Every time I look in the mirror I want to cry. Hopefully, the extension I'm booked for at a different salon will help. I'd pay $5,000 to fix this just so I didn't look and feel so horrible and embarrassed about myself anymore! The city of Mooresville water. Then she asked me what medications I was taking! Excuse me! That is against my HIPA. I did tell her at the time of service I wasn't on anything but had been put on high B/P medication just this week. Immediately she said, that could cause it. So let me get this straight. I go get the service, wash my hair 3 days later to find chemically damaged hair, then go on high B/p meds 2 weeks after the service, and she feels this is the cause. Really? I explained to her I'm in the medical profession for over 35 years and this isn't the case. Then she decides to tell me about her multiple cosmetology degrees. I respect that! He explained new products. She was looking for a night cream and there are no "night Creams". I suspect she was a bit confused, she is 86 years young. My most recent visit to this location occurred two weeks ago. The Lancome representative was quick to dismiss my makeup concerns and made me feel inferior. She was NOT helpful, and went on to explain how experienced *she* is with makeup and Lancome. I understand she is to be very knowledgeable on one specific brand, but she seemed uninterested in even assisting me with that line. After making a purchase (of body lotion from the other side of the store) I made my way to my car, and noticed her leaving. I'm guessing she wasn't trying to assist me as a customer, because her shift was ending. Not a good reason to treat customers this way. Came in to get my hair cut. When we started the hair stylist and I started talking about the colors in my hair and I said I hated it and eventually would get it colored over. She said she could do something temporarily to cover it until I had the time to get something else done. She didn't quote me and I thought it would be max $20-30 for something temporary. Come to find out it was $95 for this temporary color, and there is absolutely no way I would have done this had she told me the price beforehand. And to top it off, my hair cut looks awful. I woke up today and straightened it and its super blunt at the ends. I called and the assistant manager didn't offer much of anything. Ill make sure to tell anyone and everyone to avoid this place like the plague. I always go here when I am in town to get my eyebrows done with my mother in law and we will NOT go back. I've been coming to this Ulta for years and the last 3 have really disappointed. My cousin and I were in the prestige makeup section eager to pick out a shade for her. All the "make up" employees were gathered around each other just chatting away. Didn't even look our way! I've also had my eyebrows done at the benefit brow bar at least 3 times. I tried giving the girl (Stephanie) a chance but she just takes off too much hair. Even after asking her to leave more hair.... Still too much waxed. She needs to be retrained. I think I'm moving on to other ulta stores or even Sephora since they sell the Kat Von D brand. read more

So I am not in the beauty industry and don't normally wear a lot of makeup (I'm dressed and ready in about 10 minutes usually), but I do go here for their hair care products mainly. I like that they can look up my account by phone number, as well as any coupons under my account. I did recently find myself frustrated that they will never match their OWN online prices. However, I can going to Best Buy to buy a TV, show them the same item from another retailer online, and they will match it. I have not (and personally would not) tried their salon services. I am very picky and concerned about who cuts and colors my hair, so I wouldn't dare try it here. But maybe that's not a fair judgement for me to make. I also would not try their nail services - even though I've gotten offers for a 'free manicure.' This decision is based on my having read other people's reviews (at various Ulta locations) and learning this is basically just a polish. Personally, I see no value in a manicure that doesn't include your cuticles. I thought this sounded wrong, so I called only to have them confirm a mani was basically just polish. Now, I have not tried their brow services (I hardly have enough brows to tweeze, let alone wax), but probably wouldn't be as hesitant to try those kinds of services here. I use Bare Minerals makeup (powder) and have ventured into other BM products over the years. They have 'specialists' who work what I would call the BM station. So, this will sound really judgmental (apologies), but if I go to someone for my makeup or hair, I am going to judge them based on how their hair/makeup looks. I thought the makeup on the BM lady was cakey and didn't look good at all. Though, she was friendly and offered to help me find my 'match' of a new type of foundation. Sadly, this was a miss. She put some foundation on part of my face and sold me my 'perfect match.' When I looked in the mirror, it was orange. Definitely not a match! So I had weird makeup on my face (no biggie, I just washed it off) and had purchased the wrong color. Thankfully, to their credit, Ulta is GREAT about returns - opened or not. Just keep your receipts. I also love shopping their clearance section. I will continue to visit Ulta for most of my beauty needs, and love the store, but just thought the expertise of the employees was "A-OK" to use Yelp's terms. read more

TLDR; I've been to this location twice and the same person who swore by certain products I purchased the first time dissed them when I told her what I was using when I returned the second time. They're clearly not interested in actually helping you find your perfect makeup match and only care about making sales goals. Like many women, I frequent Ulta when I need anything makeup related. Being someone with complex skin needs and very limited knowledge of skin or makeup, I usually rely on the knowledge of the people on the floor to help me find what would work best for me. I've been to this specific location twice and both times Stephanie has helped me out. Last time I was in, she suggested a Clinique primer as well as a foundation to help with even application and long wear. Neither of these products worked for me and today when I came in and told her what products I was using (she didn't seem to remember me) she literally told me they weren't good products and that I would have been better off buying something else. I know makeup isn't cheap, but I spent more than I would have liked in good faith after she boasted more than 10 years as a makeup artist, just to return and have her diss the products she "expertly" suggested the first time. read more

Went in today to get my hair dyed, I've had several bad experiences at this specific salon at ulta but had some gift cards. kayle was the one I made an appointment with and she did an awesome job. She didn't just slap dye on my hair, she made sure it was even and catered to my hair based on the history I gave her. It came out awesome and even; and a nice color she helped me pick out. I went to the salon to get minor bangs. I showed the girl a couple photos even and said I wanted the bangs long enough to where I could put them behind my ears in case I didn't like them. However, she completely messed my hair up. She made one cut and completely fucked up my hair. They were incredibly short and did not blend in with the rest of my hair the slightest. It was definitely not what I asked for. I tried to like them and even tipped bc the damage had already been done and tried to persuade myself that they weren't "THAT BAD" but I will not be returning. Highly recommend not getting a haircut at the Walmart of makeup stores. read more
