There have been several issues with these people. When they were sent the paperwork to reinstate my insurance, they claimed that they did not get it. I started getting bills in the mail and services denied. They could not even resolve it right then; it took a week. I was told that I would receive a call back to let me know that it was resolved. I did not. I was sent an email telling me that it was reinstated. The date I was told it was going to be reinstated is not the date they reinstated to. The date I was told was documented on my papers but was not honored. Then they make you submit for reimbursement. I went to do that and they had my information wrong. I called to get it changed and they had to send me to someone else. Then that person could not do it either. Just simply changing a phone number. I could not log into the portal that they push for you to use due to the number being wrong. So, I could not submit my claim. Then they told me it would take a few days. What?! To change my number?! This is ridiculous. This was coming from a lady named 'IYA'; not sure if that was her real name. She then tells me that they will call me back and told me that they were going to call the old number. I was like, OMG, I am literally sitting here trying to change the number and you tell me you are going to have them call the old number?! Please make it make sense. I asked for a manager and got nothing but silence. Then I called back and got Lee, and he did the same thing. It's very frustrating when you have to repeat everything you say to every single person that answers the phone. Not to mention that most do not even speak English and can barely understand them. They get offended when you tell them you can't understand them. These people also need more training. When you tell them that they are providing horrible customer service, they pop back with, 'well this isn't customer service.' You are answering the phone, speaking to a customer. You are assisting them. That is customer service, regardless of what 'department' you are in. To tell a customer that is even worse customer service. You are there to assist the customer. IYA, LEE, and REG were all horrible. IYA was in the customer service department and LEE and REG are in the internet department. After being hung up on by IYA while waiting on a manager (which I never did get), I was then placed on a never-ending silent hold by LEE and REG. Finally, the last time I called the internet department, I got a lady by the name of NICOLE. I let her know what was going on, and then she put me on hold for a bit. She did not know what she was doing. Next thing I knew, the phone was ringing to someone, and someone else answered the phone by the name of BRIANNA. I calmly explained everything to her, and she listened. I apologized for being frustrated and ensured her that it was not her at all, and she was just getting the tail end of it. She got everything taken care of while I was on the phone when I was told it could not be done and that it would take days to be completed! Like seriously, this was a disaster. My phone calls started at 10:57 AM, and it was finally resolved at 12:13, taking away from my job as the business calls come to my cell phone. Not happy. I have UMR through my employer and they've generally been okay. However, My daughter just turned 19 and we had to pick a primary care provider for her. The one the rest of our family has wasn't accepting new patients, but the reps (more than one) at UMR said they would get her in. Spoke with multiple people all assuring me that they can see that my daughter was assigned our family PCP but it won't take effect until July 1. Today is July 1, so I called to follow up and ask for a new ID card. Told, yes, not a problem. I'll order that for you. She puts me on hold and it reroutes me back as if I was calling in for the first time. This time a new rep tells me, no we have to pick a different PCP. I asked why each time I call I get different answer. Asked to speak to a manager, who of course is not available. I'm disgusted by the lack of professionalism. Bunch of buffoons. read more

As a medical professional I would never recommend this insurance. They are awful and when you call to talk to someone they speak terrible English and are very hard to understand. Doing authorizations.... They don't look at the medical records attached and then say that they need more information when it's all there in the first place. I just had a patient I submitted for authorization in 11/2025 and they just approved this week after multiple phone calls and submissions. Case in point: if a client has 20 days of authorized treatment and only uses 18, most carriers (even BCBS) would approve an extension without issue. UMR? Not even close. You're looking at up to 15 days just to complete a review for something that should be straightforward. I've already submitted all relevant clinical documentation. There is nothing else to provide. Yet I'm being asked if I have "additional clinical" for a basic extension? The delay is not only excessive, it's borderline negligent when it comes to timely patient care. It genuinely feels like UMR is more focused on red tape than on actual clinical need. The process is inefficient, inconsistent, and unnecessarily difficult. Also, sometimes we get the automated woman on the phone who says "you can handle prior auths on the portal now and no longer need to call". Stop it. Unless you're a fan of endless follow-ups and avoidable care delays, I would not recommend UMR to providers or patients. 0 stars should be an option. read more

I've had BCBS for most of my life and recently needed to switch to UMR when I transferred to a new company. I have Crohn's disease, so navigating insurance is something I'm very familiar with. UMR is clearly and unabashedly dodging services. What I mean by that is that they are not hiding the fact that they intentionally avoid providing insurance services. Even basic things like sending you an insurance card or allowing you to create an account, lookup providers, etc., are made as difficult as possible.
