I would give this zero stars if I could. Writing on behalf of 8 people here. We are writing this review because we wrote to them and received no response. I have never once had an experience at a restaurant that was this disappointing. We made a booking for a private room - the cellar room for a party of 8 for a christmas party. We were told that the private room was only available at 8pm and chose Beppis over other restaurants. Although deposits were only required for 10 or more people for private rooms, they required us to pay a deposit even though we were a group of 8 and we paid it anyways. We also called and confirmed the booking with the restaurant on three separate days prior to the dinner and on all three occasions we were informed that the booking was for the private cellar room. When we arrived they told us bluntly that the private rooms have been booked out since october and just gave us a random table at the restaurant. We would have gone to other places but it was late by then (we also did not want to have dinner at 8pm but they told us the room was only available then). No refunds. It was their nonchalent reaction that really gave us the shits.They said something along the lines of "What do you want? If you want to file a complaint - go ahead". This is absolutely misleading. We understand that it is not the waiters fault and they gave us a round of limoncello shots afterwards but it was terribly disappointing. Also... telling us Mark Walberg visited your restaurant a few days before does not help the situation. The food was alright; the ambience was intimate - nice interior. We were really looking forward to celebrating christmas at Beppis but this... was a whole new low. read more

So you feel like some fancy itallian do you? Well you picked the right place.... Beppi's prides itself on being excellent Itallian food - and it is - if you're willing to pay the price.... Beppis is a tiny little restaurant off from Stanley Street. It's the kind of place you would need to know about in order to find it. As soon as you walk in you know you're somewhere fancy - it just has that vibe (or maybe it was the valet service at the front that gave it away) There is a wonderful atmosphere inside - and on any given night the place is PACKED. I suggest you book early for a special occasion. The food is wonderful but it comes at a price - literally. This place really is expensive.... So start off can I recommend the Funghi di Campo Portobello Marinati in Varie Erbe Miste - Baked portobello field mushroom marinated and baked with mixed herbs ($28) - that's right you're paying $28 for mushrooms or Fiori di Zucchine Ripieni con Ricotta e Funghi Porcini Home grown Zucchini flowers with ricotta, basil and Porcini Mushroom filling ($32) - yes ladies and gentleman - thats your starters.... In fairness, the food is delicious - but it really really expensive... Now for mains go for - Barramundi Selvatico alla Griglia con Pate d'Olive - Wild Barramundi fillet grilled and served with olive pate and lemon ($41) - which is simply scrumptious but will leave you still a bit hungry - so make sure you can also afford sides ($9) It is a wonderful place to eat, but it really does cater for the upper class.... if you are saving for that once in a lifetime meal - I think Sydney does have better on offier.... read more

Had a beautiful lunch here on Friday, this place is legendary, and have been meaning to come back for so very long. My daughter & I had a lunch to bond on the last week before school resumes. Ok, it was so very good, excellent service, and absolutely delicious food. The waiters are polite, helpful, kind and fun to talk to, and yes, they cater to all you desire. The food is excellent, the pasta is so beautiful it melts in your mouth, and the food is of the highest quality. It has been 24 years since I visited here and it is still good. Beppi's has been here for over 60 years. It seems to combine the old fashioned with the new. However, be prepared for the cost. You can pay around $150 per person but for that you will get excellent food, terrific wait staff and a very cool experience. We were offered bread to start but this turned out to be bruschetta. Some of us went for the specials of the day but in the mains I had saltimbocca. Beautiful. The dessert Zabaglione was huge and needed to be shared. It wasn't prepared at the table as is often done and had a sheen that an egg white could have been used to make it merangue like in texture. I liked it. I am not a stickler for food being prepared in one way only but this could disappoint some. There are no waitresses, just mostly Italian men serving with concern for their patrons, ducking and weaving with plates. Depending on where you are sitting, it is worth getting up and going to the loo as the rabbit warren at the back with bottles of wine and the front of the restaurant give two completely different feels. It is also a bit of fun watching the waiters rush around you. I probably shouldn't wait another 24 years to come back...just need to save up. read more

Very old school italian place from the 1950s. I arrived around 930pm while they were getting ready to close up and almost empty. But they were still nice to let me in, so i didnt want to trouble them and order mains. Just got two pastas. They were both good, but nothing exceptional. I would definitely come back to try their other dishes next time and arrive earlier. The service and waiters were still awesome even though i came so late and was the last person in the restaurant. read more

This is just very, very good Italian food, served by excellent service staff. I was here for lunch, got some bread with marinated tomatoes and olives immediately at the table. I asked if they offer the Pasta also as small starter plate, no problem at all. So Pasta with Lobster it was, fresh noodles, excellent tomato flavor, little spice in it, a lot of lobster cooked to my liking - just good Italian Pasta. Main course was a Barramundi filet - gorgeous, perfectly grilled, the spinach aside was recommended and was awesome, lightly parmesaned and tasty. The atmosphere is cosy, service excellent, prices on the higher side, but quality in return. This was not outstanding, but just excellent, so 5 stars deserved. read more

Beppi's is one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney and defiantly the best Italian restaurant in the East. There are two parts of the restaurant to dine in, the front has a modern finish and the back part of the restaurant is set in a wine seller. I prefer the wine seller area as it adds a great vibe to the whole Italian dinning experience. The menu is amazing and the waiters know there wines - be sure to ask for a recommendation on a nice bottle of wine to compliment your dish selections. The restaurant holds a lot of history as its been open for 57 years and it has a authentic Italian feel. After dinning at Beppi's several times, I would have to say my favourite is Fiori di Zucchine ripieni con Ricotta e funghi Porcini for a starter Spaghettini verde con coda di Aragosta, pomodoro fresco e basilico for the main. I highly recommend dining at Beppi's and if you have the chance, try the cheese plater after your man meal. read more

I honestly cannot wait to go back to this place - brilliant service, delicious food, beautiful decor and an old all-class atmosphere that is absolutely charming. The place is just wonderful to look at and eat in - dusty bottles of red arranged on the low wooden beams above your table, the small bar station set into a tiny nook, the place settings on the wooden furniture. Eating here is just so intimate; it's perfect for dinner with a couple of close friends, on a first date or anniversary. The service was wonderful - our waiter the type to manage decent conversation and serve our meals graciously. The Portobello mushroom entree was so simple but meant I could actually taste the meatiness of the mushroom itself. The osso bucco I ordered was delicious to say the least, and the angel hair pasta on my left looked so good I had to steal some. Although I was already so full from my meal we had to order coffee and dessert. The strawberry crepes with the Grand Marnier flambé was no novelty - the alcohol that wasn't burned away really packs a punch! read more

This place is incredible - when we walked in the place looked empty, but that was because everyone was seated back in the wine cellar! We sat at the last table available right next to a wall of wine, and the cellar had so much character, we loved it! My wife and I were not too hungry so we split an appetizer and meal - we had the mushrooms (perfectly done and tasty), and the fish of the day (Snapper) with a side of asparagus. Loved this place. I ate there a while back and was not impressed at all. Then I read in the Sydney Morning Herald that the place got a fine for violating the health code. Beppi's in Sydney has been fined $2,640 after inspectors observed "rodent activity" to say the least. If their claim to fame is getting Rihanna to eat there, they should do the right thing and just cease operating. Just because Rihanna has no taste, some sort of romanticised notion that East Sydney diners will visit the place like lemmings until the end of days to eat rat shit is appalling. The place barely gets into the Good Food Guide with a 12/20. Hardly a culinary landmark. Just knowing that Rihanna (likes) the place is enough to turn off any true epicurean. After visiting the Grill'd in St Kilda last week (again thanks to an Entertainment Book voucher) I would venture to claim that their premises is cleaner and serves better food. I think Grill'd would be excluded from the Good Food Guide though because of the nature of its business. So many decent restaurants fail because of the time and cost to keep them clean whereas some dive like Beppi's continues to trade is beyond my comprehension. Excellent food and wine here. I recommend the Fritelli di Annate and Gnocchi di Ricotta. Great service and atmosphere, couldn't ask for more. It's expensive though so be prepared. If walking there, I recommend taking William St as Stanley St is quite steep. read more

We ordered the scampi and the angel hair pasta with scallops, prawns, crab and lobster. Both were delicious. Every time the owner came out to collect our dishes he'd drawl loudly, 'How was it? Beeyahtiful, beeyahtiful,' with which we could only agree. read more

Overpriced for what you get and service was only so-so. I wouldn't recommend returning.

The dinner experience was spoiled when we came to pay the bill because the maître d' was pressuring us to leave a tip by asking "Was everything ok ? Because people don't leave a tip only if they are not satisfied". After spending $298 in a dinner for two, I didn't feel we needed to leave a tip on a first visit. read more
