I came in today around 10 am. the little girl with the bandana was so cute and sweet. I wanted a bagel but you don't sell them ( owner please reconsider) she recommended a butter pecan coffee cake instead. I didn't know this was what I wanted but she knew she what I needed. Everything I've gotten here is wonderful. Go early they sell out fast. The cookies are fresh and wonderful, smell is fantastic.

I love seeing businesses like this in the area. I have heard so many good things about it and wanted to grab a pie for a birthday! They have their prices on their website and have many more things in store. You can call in advance for things and they also make wedding cakes! I personally did not get to go in but my boyfriend did and said it was really cute in there and everything looked delicious. We brought the apple pie home and the whole family loved it. Yesterday, I Purchased turnovers to take to a friends who had lost her loved one. They were very surprised that the turnovers were overcooked and the filling inside was near nothing. I called this morning to let them know what had happened. The girl on the phone was very nice, but never offered to replace them or give a gift card. Anything to make this right? She only said she hoped I tried it again and that they appreciated me calling. read more

We are visiting Quincy and many of the tourist info guides said to visit Pioneer Bakery and to have the Angel-food Cupcake - they did not disappoint! If you have nothing else, do enjoy the Angel-food cupcakes! We opted to try some of the other bakery fare and it was excellent as well! I enjoyed a chocolate muffin with raspberry filling, while my guests had other muffins that were equally delicious. Make sure you have plenty of time as the store is small and they are only allowing 2 unrelated individuals in a a time! However, it is well worth the wait! Friendly and knowledgeable staff serving up delictable baked goods - what more could you ask for!?! Well, other than a huge location so that you don't miss out on the items that they sell out of. The only thing that could have improved upon this visit is if the sold coffee! Well, the baked goods didn't last long enough to make it to a coffee shop! read more

This morning's breakfast: a pillowy soft cloud of goodness in the form of an exquisite Cheese Danish from Underbrink's. Let me just say that I savored each bite until I reached the heavenly cream cheese center of my delicious pastry. Ahhh, bliss! I too had heard the raves about Underbrink's from a long-time Quincy resident who grew up here. It's definitely not the largest or most spectacular selection of baked goods you'll ever encounter on the planet, but the place oozes local hometown pride and charm. On the downside, everything is strictly to-go since there's no place to eat inside. I'm also a bit surprised that this bakery hasn't capitalized on the popularity of artisanal breads and fancy cupcakes that seem to be so much in demand elsewhere. But overall, what's there is yummy and fresh. A thumbs up for Underbrinks! read more

Got there just before they opened. They have quite a better selection of goodies than their web site shows. Got a couple of cinnamon rolls, a cherry danish and an apple pastry. Very good and reasonable price. Unfortunately they don't do drinks. Great place. Highly recommend. read more

I spend half the year in Chicago, and I've eaten pastries from the most highly recommended bakeries there as well as in major European cities. Underbrink's stands with the best of them. The basic danish has the perfect balance of buttery layers and satisfying fillings, and a number of items on the menu are Underbrink's originals. First, Underbrink's made my baby shower cake and it was great! The design was super cute and the price was very reasonable. I've had better tasting cakes, but it was pretty darn good overall. I attempted to order a bridal shower cake for my sister last week and it was a disaster. I called and the woman I spoke with told me that the cake decorator, Beth, did not show up that day and she takes all the custom cake orders so I would need to call her directly. She directed me to tell Beth what I wanted and give her my credit card info (I live in Chicago and can't make it to the bridal shower, so this is part of my gift to my sister). I was put off by the suggestion that I give my credit card information to someone other than the actual place of business, but decided to give Beth a call anyway since I was pleased with my baby shower cake. I called Beth and told her what I wanted. She agreed that I shouldn't give her my credit card information and told me I would need to call the bakery after she got back to me with a price. Talk about inefficient! But, again, I was pleased with my baby shower cake so decided to overlook the running around they had me doing. I spoke with Beth last Tuesday and emailed her pictures of what I would like the cake to look like. When I hadn't heard from her for two days, I called her - no answer. So, I called the bakery. I was told Beth wasn't there (again) and they would have her call me with a price so I could get this order placed. The guy I spoke with informed me that it was the day before Valentine's Day and they were super busy. Look, I get you are busy before a holiday where sweets and treats are popular and great for you for being busy...but, I am literally trying to GIVE you money...and no one can take my order?! Goodness! I ended up ordering the bridal shower cake from Krazy Cakes in Quincy. They were both prompt and friendly in getting back to me and taking my order - even with the busy holiday. By the way, Beth called me today (a full week after I initially reached out) and rudely asked if I needed to speak with her about a cake. I let her know that I went somewhere else. read more

I was disappointed by Underbrink's Bakery. The selection is lacking. The cookies are pedestrian, not much difference between them and what you can find a HY VEE bakery. The cupcakes look really cool, but they are made of a bland angel food type cake. Huh? I wanted to buy bread...no loaves of bread were available. There were some large "wheels" of rolls. I didn't want to buy such a large amount. No other yeast rolls were there. The bright spot was the Danish. Great old-fashioned flavor. Really good. All in all...not that great. read more

I'm sorry, I come from a large metro. This small town bakery is one of few in a city of 40000. You would expect a lot from this bakery with a lot of variety etc. I had a difficult time finding very much. Yet the locals love this place for some reason. I don't get the allure. Its overrated. Their hours are terrible. They're never open. You can't even buy a loaf of bread here. Disappointed. read more

The only thing my grandparents, parents, and now me, have ever went here for was the home made pastries (or rolls as they call them). Under Brinks is to Quincy, what Apple pie is to America. I've been going to Underbrink's bakery since I was four or five years old. When I was a kid I would try to get a dime so I could buy a radio roll! I would sit in front of the store under the big window with my feet dangling in eating my roll happily! I moved away from Quincy for 18 years, upon my return I went to Underbrink'sp to get some nut cups. Other than they did not have as much icing on top as they used to , I found them to be just as delicious! The nut rolls are my grown-up favorite! However one can't overlook the delicious angel food cakes! I have never had anything bad from Underbrink's. It would be nice if they had a little bit better hours. But overall I give them a four star rating! read more

I live for their Butter Streusel Danishes! The angel food cupcakes are pretty tasty too. I grew up in Quincy and used to play tennis in the summers up the street at Reservoir Park...this was often my mid-morning snack on the way home. Years later, this place is still a must whenever I am home. A previous post mentioned that the selection was lacking. If there is something in particular you are looking for, they do special orders. Otherwise, you have to go early (prior to 9 or 10am) if you want a good selection as many of the good ones sell out fast if they are having a busy day, especially on weekends. read more

Quincy staple. Walking in from the sidewalk even before you enter you are welcomed by that wonderful bakery smell of fresh baked goods. Great service, everyone is friendly and smiling. Small selection, but enough options to make it difficult to choose just one. Cheese danish was delicious and fairly priced, especially for being made from scratch. After months of being told this is a Quincy staple, I was in the area and decided to check it out. I wasn't sure what to expect, but was excited as I walked in and smelled all the delicious smells. They had a large amount of cookies and cakes. I decided to try some peanut butter and some chocolate with caramel center cookies. As I was going to pay, I heard something calling me from the behind the glass case. As I turned to look, my eyes locked in on a chocolate croissant. I realized we were meant to be and asked the nice gentleman to place this goodness in a bag for me. I couldn't even get my car started before trying it. I must say, the only thing I have eaten that has ever compared to this experience were the croissants in Paris. It was the perfect amount of chocolate and flaky goodness. I waited until after dinner to try any of th cookies. I had expected the peanut butter cookies to be soft, but they were actually a little crunchy. I crumbled them and put a couple over some ice cream which was a good choice. The next day, my husband and I tried the chocolate/caramel cookies. I would describe them as brownie cookies with a caramel (with the consistency of German chocolate frosting). They were delicious and even my husband ( who typically doesn't like sweets) enjoyed a few, commenting they were really sweet but good. This will definitely be a regular spot. read more

Beth made a Grooms Cake for me that was in the shape of a white football helmet with Texas Longhorns on the sides. The cake was well made as far as the design. It was chocolate inside and it was the most moist cake I have ever eaten. The white icing was not too sweet, which was a perfect blend. I had to order this cake long distance so I was nervous never meeting this bakery. Beth was so nice! I give it 6 stars! read more

I ordered 2 dozen gingerbread men cookies that were supposed to be individually bagged from this bakery. What I got upon arrival were butter cookies shaped as gingerbread men that were in 2 boxes. And when I complained about it the owner said to me that he has done all that he was going to do and I should go about my business. If these cookies were for a kindergarten party I would have left them. But why make children suffer for an adults ignorance. I will not ever patron this shop again and advise others to go elsewhere read more
