I will preface this review by saying that I have my "regular" tattoo artist that I've been going to since I was about 20, so coming here to a different artist felt like I was cheating on someone. My sister's artist is here and it's like 8 minutes from home, so I agreed to come here with her for a matching tattoo she gifted to me for Christmas. I've lived in the area for almost five years and can't even count how many times I've passed Underworld. I will say, don't judge a book by it's cover. I definitely did and was pleasantly surprised when I walked into this shop. Lots of art plastered all over the place and just overall a really fun vibe with good music. My sister's artist is Jake, and he was great! My first time meeting this guy and he was super easy to chat with and was professional, quick, and funny. He got us both done really quickly and did a great job. I originally had wanted the tattoo formatted differently and he suggested something else, which I did push back on... But then I saw it stenciled and had to admit he was right. He did a great job and it was exactly what we were looking for. Prices were incredibly affordable and the shop itself was super clean and professional all around. As mentioned, I do have my regular guy that I go to, but Underworld is a solid spot for ink. My boyfriend and I went in for some walk-ins (we called ahead earlier and they told us just to come in). The owner of the shop did my boyfriends tattoo and it came out really well and he was really nice. But my artist was a different story. The artist was Saem. At first he was nice but after the first tattoo (I got 2 small tattoos, both took less than an hour and he still charged me $400 which is more than my entire thigh piece) he seemed to be rushing. I thought the price was a little much but I thought "well maybe he's really good." I was wrong and disappointed. I have never met a tattoo artist who charged more than $200 an hour. For a small bee tattoo that took less than an hour he asked for 250. Anyway, I felt like he rushed through my second tattoo (which was also small) and there is some ink blowout and my skin was scratched up to hell. A ring of bruising appeared around my tattoo which has never happened to me before, I had 5 tattoos previous to this experience. Now that my tattoos are almost healed I also have noticed messy line work, there is literally ink outside the lines on BOTH pieces. Now, granted this guys specialty was traditional, but I got one small black and grey piece and one all black symbol which is thick lines- AMERICAN TRADITIONAL ANYONE? Anyway, I won't be going back to Saem anytime soon and I suggest that if you are female or want anything other than American traditional and you don't mind paying outrageous rates, this is the spot for you. read more

I've been to a lot of tattoo shops all over the country and I have never, ever seen a better shop than Underworld. This place is killer! The shop itself is what I think of as a true classic tattoo parlor. It's not one of those "cutting edge" hipster joints where skinny, wimpy guys get handlebar mustaches tattooed on their fingers, but a real shop where the tradition of tattooing is clearly evident. This is the real deal. I got both of the tops of my hands done by Josh and can honestly say they are the best pieces on my body. Crisp edges, smooth lines, rich colors, and exactly what I was picturing in my head. Josh went out of his way to re-draw my pieces a couple of times, without complaint, to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. While the work was getting done, other tattooers would come in just to check in, get jazzed about the new ink and even joke around a bit. Great friendly vibe in this place. No pretensions or egos like I've seen in too many other Seattle area shops. You can be jolly well sure that I'll be going back. Heck, I've just found my shop. All others can go kick rocks. read more

My friend and I just got tattooed by Ron last night. The level of professionalism by this artist and shop are unparalleled. I called earlier in the week to make an appointment, which they don't do over the phone, but the person I spoke with answered my questions and was very nice. We walked in Saturday expecting for them to be too busy to squeeze us in but Ron came out and spoke with both of us. I wanted small Roman numerals on my ribs. He offered suggestions to make them more original and even drew up some different ways it could be done. I still wanted plain block lettering and Ron listened to me and wasn't indignant that I still wanted the plain font style. He was super friendly, personable, and talkative. My friend had to have her top off due to placement, and Ron showed an immense amount of decorum which made us both feel comfortable. The prices are very reasonable and the shop is clean, and the decor was very cool. This will definitely be my new shop, and I will be telling everyone I know to have their work done here. Patrick did my very first tattoo and it's amazing. I have no drawing skills and couldn't find anyone who could draw out my design the way I wanted it. Patrick worked with me step by step on the design and through each sitting. I get many, MANY compliments on it saying that the animals are so life like that when I move it makes it look as if the fur on the wolf and the mane on the horse are flowing. To top it all off, my boyfriend got one the same time I did and Patrick was pretty awesome about booking out his entire day for the two of us to go back to back. Patrick will have all of my business for as long as he is doing tattoos. Patrick is intelligent, entertaining, and very artistic. It turned out great, exactly as I had imagined it... and that is saying a lot because I just gave him a constellation and a quote and he ran with it. Man oh man, this place. Lemme tell ya. Best shop in town. NO, THE WORLD. Lots of laughs and lots of love for Doc and Sam. Sam has been tattooing me for about 5 years now and she only gets better and better. She put a bird on me. It was real neato. I brought my friend to her and she's got tattoos from Sam now too. One time Sam made me laugh so hard while tattooing me I peed a little bit. Now Doc, here's a guy worth patting on the back. While my friend got her tattoo he busted out a quick little "Get What You Get" tattoo. He's got a smile that could fuel a car for miles and his hat is a hat of the highest caliber hats. Great shop, with approachable staff! None of the "we don't have time for your stupid questions" attitude you get at some of the other shops. Husband went in to firm up ideas on a cover-up tatt. It was a little too large to incorporate into another piece. Josh suggested just sharpening up the lines of an otherwise nice design & maybe blackening it out. Turned out great...looks soo much better! Also offered to touch it up if there is any discoloration once it heals. Definitely a fan! We will be back. read more

I can't believe I can't remember the guys name, but he works right in the front booth when you walk in. He drew up my tattoo, it didn't take him long, and he also drew up my friends. I just got another tattoo here a couple of months ago by Leo-he is awesome! I had a very specific idea of what I wanted and it turned out pretty amazing. The pricing there isn't too bad and they've generally got good music on- which seems kind of important to me when you're sitting around for a couple of hours. If you want a professional tattoo artist, dont go here. After six months I have yet to hear from the artist regarding the tattoo he was drawing for me. I've attempted to go in/call and see what's going and have yet to get a response. Came in for a Friday the 13th tattoo. The artist doing them seemed like an amateur, a novice maybe. He kept going over his lines a ridiculous amount of times. I have quite i few hours clocked in under the needle by several different artists and I know when I'm being handled heavy handedly. The stencil was put on and he left half of it off. And then I asked him "will you stencil the rest on?" And his reply was "Yes." He then proceeded to draw freehandedly the rest of my tattoo after I already asked him not to. It looked terrible. He then attempted to tattoo the crooked, lopsided poorly drawn and not to mention not even the right font... at that point I stopped him. I didn't want him to touch me at that point. I was over it. I handed him my money with no tip. And then proceeded to get the tat covered up later that night. My best friend was with me. She also got a tattoo. He f*cked up on hers too. read more

Zero is my score but i have to give a one because it wont let you do zero! I was in there for 15 minutes and no one greeted me at all. Why should I have to be the one on the offensive this is your establishment and I wanted to spend money at your establishment. I understand you have to pay a deposit for an appointment but can I get someone from YOUR staff to talk to me. Gave a $40 deposit and showed them a pic off the internet of what I wanted. (simple design) Was told the artist would draw something out before my appt. I didn't care for the way the tattoo artist drew out my desired tattoo and she got attitude about that. Saying because it was going around my leg that she couldn't do this or that and she's supposedly been doing tats for 4-5 years. Needless to say I left with no tattoo or a refund of my deposit. i do like the tattoo that i got done there but i had a friend go there and have the same tattoo artist do her tattoo and he had to be high that day because you couldnt even tell what hers was so if your going to go there please be careful and make sure that tthe tattoo artist is sober i have had experience with a diff. tattoo place and it is now my fav. which is action tattoo in auburn and my tattoo artisit is peter he is quiet but does a awsome job. read more

The tattoo I got was small and simple, it did come out great but the experience wasn't worth it. I could've went to several other places and got just as good, if not better quality. Price was pretty reasonable as well, but like I said the experience turned me off from ever going here again. I have several tattoos, I've been getting tattoos for over 4 years now and this was the worst experience I've EVER had. I decided to go here because a few of my friends said good things but they went to a different person than I did, I got tattooed by Ron. First, I didn't get ID'd or had to file anything out which I thought was weird. We started out and like I said it was a pretty simple tattoo, my other artist said it would take no longer than 10 minutes. But we started out, he made the stencil and he was pretty nice but when it got to the tattooing part he got A LITTLE TOO nice. I took my shirt off for the tattoo and he made remarks like "I get to see all the goodies today", he kept hitting on me even after I kept mentioning my boyfriend and said I was "fun" and "why haven't we met before". The whole tattoo process took 2 hours. He kept stalling and kept checking his phone, it was very unprofessional. Then when I got up to leave he said "come on in here for a hug" and kept insisting I come back and take him out. He also kept insulting my other tattoos and said they were done wrong. Overall, I won't ever go here again and if I do I'm making sure I get to see someone other than him. I'd suggest the same to any other girls looking to get tattoos from here. read more
