Don't bother. They are so disorganized. They took a $200 deposit for an appointment 18 months later. They emailed me to move the appointment to two weeks earlier, but never called to confirm. When I got a text reminder for my appointment, I called to confirm and the girl at the desk told me I had missed my appointment and lost my deposit. I asked how they moved the appointment without confirming, then texted me for my original date. She said they had high turnover in the office and someone forgot to update their automatic reminder system. Super unprofessional. read more

I had a great experience at Paradox Tattoo. Everyone is really nice. Great vibe to the shop. Clean and well run. I had Whitney do a very large leg piece. I followed Whitney for about 8 years so getting a tattoo from her was a really big deal for me. Bucket list item. Her work was as expected. IMHO, everything about her work is best of the best. It's an epic piece for sure. As a human, Whitney is super chill. Easy to talk to. I felt very at ease with her from the start. I would not say Whitney is cheap but that's to be expected. She's won countless awards. You're getting what you pay for. She does work fast, and she is old school (she charges for the time she spends actually tattooing). No design fees. Although I'm OK with tattoo artists that charge a small design fee, I would rather work with an artist that does it the old school way and builds that cost into their hourly rate. In honor of high-quality artists that maintain the old school traditions I always tip 20%. If you are not tipping your artist, you should be. Consider a smaller piece and do your best to tip. Once my tattoo heals and Whitney is happy with it, we'll take pictures and I'll update my review with a photo. Thanks for the tattoo Whitney. Most artists here are extremely booked out minus the new artists, who are equally amazing! Tyson is an INSANE tattoo artist who owned a shop in Cali & moved here to work for Paradox. he specializes in large scale pieces & black & grey.. the craziest thing though is this guy can do a full sleeve in a day! Matisse is great for line work and smaller pieces & script work, her personality is electric & bubbly and is a ray of sunshine! Derek super specializes in anime, comic, gamer tattoos and has such a postiive energy and is amazing to be around (you def will want to keep coming back to him) Eric really does it all, black work, trad, geometric, black & grey, color, whatever you dream. He's a hard worker & skilled artist and will get the job done & you'll leave satisfied with your interaction & your piece! Joe has solidddd line work and really can do anything as well & he is such a sweet and easy to get along with guy! Chen & Whit basically only take specialty projects now that inspire & interest them & both are very booked out but worth the wait if you love their work! Chen really loves doing large-scale painterly & abstract pieces, nature related, & realism. Whitney lots doing large scale realism, abstract black work, ornamental, geometric, elemental nature & wildlife pieces. They also have a super sweet apprentice who is always looking for canvas to help her build her portfolio who will do small tattoos for an insane deal! Let me break this down for you, as an avid tattoo collector with head to toe coverage, I have waited months, nearly a year to be tattooed. I have traveled across the globe to get work done, Sweden, Puerto Rico, holland, Ireland. If the artist is right, the wait and travel is worth it! Mind you they are artists who do this daily, your piece is incredibly special to you, the collector, and this is their job & lively hood. Some artists do 3 pieces a day and work 6 days a week! As an artist, forcing creation can sometimes be a challenge when you are doing it nonstop, and some projects are more desirable and fun for each artist and as an artist, they have the right to choose to do or not do a piece, with a shop this big, finding someone who fits your style & vibe isn't hard and someone is a guarantee to be a fit for you! Some artists don't have to much of a preference and just want to do a great piece and go home, some have project preferences that keep them inspired. Keep in mind this artist is a human being coming up with your creation, so that means, somedays they have good days, somedays they have bad days. Home lives, mental preoccupations that are consuming them throughout the creative process and although they shouldn't let that leak over... sometimes its challenging not to, for any of us a human beings! All in all, go into your journey and appointment not only making sure the artist you want specifically matches the style you want, but in your consult, if you feel like they aren't the vibe for you personality wise.. you have the right to ask to work with someone else! This is your forever body alteration & you have space to pick & choose who you make the relationship with. Chentelle is an incredible artist, hilarious, and super straightforward about what will and will not look good. What more could you want? Truth be told, I, personally, didn't get the tattoo, but my husband did. However, I was there for each session and found Paradox Tattoo when I was looking for an artist for my own work. The piece we wanted was rather complex and required several sessions as it was practically a half sleeve. It was a page of art from the St. John's Illuminated Bible. Chentelle was awesome with the consult, saying very clearly what would be different as we were going from print to ink. Each session was exciting because things looked better and better each time. Sitting with Chentelle was great. She is kind and funny, and it was a pleasure to meet her. Seeing all of her work only increased my respect for her skill as an artist. It was also easy to communicate with her via email/website. Because she is amazing, there is a good chance you won't be able to just walk in and get her (who knows, you may). However, it's a sign of a good artist when they are booked out pretty far. The place was always clean, and Chentelle always followed proper cleaning procedures. There are obviously talented people here, but their personalities and lack of help were beyond enough to make me want to go elsewhere. I went into this shop to do a consult and see if they would be willing to do two forearm tattoos on me that I wanted pulled together into a half-sleeve. I went in January of this year and saw Whitney in the middle of doing a tattoo, two other employees/friends chatting with her, and another girl at the computer up at the front playing with fonts for a tattoo. I walked up to the counter and the girl on the computer asked me what I needed without even looking at me. Rude but whatever, not a huge deal. I showed her what I was hoping to get, she glanced at it, looked back at the computer, and said the inner one will cost $500, the outer one will cost $1,000 and our earliest available appointment is in 11 months. Then Whitney chimed in and said they can't be put into a half-sleeve.... What? She literally didn't even look at the pictures. These first two tattoos would (generously) take three hours combined. I know because I got them done somewhere else and it took him 45 minutes to do the first one and just under two hours to the the second one. They cost me $500 TOTAL and they are beautiful. I understand tattoos being costly considering you're paying for quality of work for something that will be on your body forever. But holy shit. I am slightly grateful for their shitty attitudes though because it led me to the artist I see now. He just did my third tattoo since the shitty Paradox consult 6 months ago and I couldn't be happier. And to top it off, we already have my appointment scheduled to finish the half-sleeve because unlike the employees at Paradox, he is an actual artist and worked with me to create what I wanted. read more

It's been about 6 months since I had my tattoo done by Whitney, and today I finally got it touched up by a tattoo artist I trust. I drove over an hour and a half from Seattle to visit Paradox and make an appointment bc I came across Whitney's work on instagram and thought she was very talented. When I walked in Whitney was tattooing someone and there were a couple of other employees hanging out. No one greeted me or even gave me a smile or a nod when I walked in. I thought ok, not the best customer service, but I'll just take a seat and wait. After about 10 minutes of waiting the piercing guy asked me how he could help, he was the nicest out of all of the employees there. I did end up booking a sesh after talking to Whitney, which she said would be about 2 months out and I put down a $60 deposit. I ended up getting a call from the piercer during the day on Oct 26th saying Whitney had someone cancel and asked if I could come in at 7. I drove straight there after work, making it just a little before 7. Whitney was just finishing up a tattoo. I ended up waiting over an hour because she was scrambling to find photos on the internet to use for her sketch. I wrongfully assumed she already had one drawn up. The tattoo took about 2 hours and she finished just before 11pm. I honestly feel like she rushed through it and put in a half the effort into my tattoo. I don't think she was even happy with her own work considering she didn't even post the piece on her instagram. There are certain areas that look sloppy and even some that she forgot to shade! I ended up writing Whitney an email after it healed saying I wanted to come in to get it touched up a bit. Never heard back. Sent a second email, heard back a couple of weeks later. At that point I decided I didn't even feel comfortable going back there because I honestly felt like I was an inconvenience to her and didn't feel like she really cared. If you want to beg someone to take your money and want to be treated as a burden instead of a customer, this is your place! We arrived to the establishment on Thursday June 5, 2014 to find several employees blocking the entrance and didn't even respond to our "good evening". I should have trusted my gut and immediately gotten back into my car. However we walked in, mind you several free people, to be told that we need to have an appointment. Given that their hours are inconvenient to anyone that has a full-time job, an appointment was scheduled for June 9, 2014. On June 9, 2014, I called the establishment to see if I could come in earlier. They told me that Meg was not in and that I should CALL THEM BACK after they try to get a hold of her. Like an idiot, I agreed. I called back about 30 minutes later to learn that Meg had called in sick and cancelled her earlier appointments. Funny that this wasn't shared with me nor anyone contacted me to let me know this fact. They had my info, given that I received an email confirmation of the appointment on Sunday (funny how that happened considering I needed to place a deposit for an appointment!!) No one could ascertain if my appointment was canceled or not. I then received an arrogant message from a whitney stating that I needed to place a deposit in order to make an appointment. WTF?! Why wasn't I told that when making the appointment in person at the establishment?!?! Horrible customer service, most likely this business is a front for other type of activity. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!! Give other establishments that want to work and assist the customer your money! read more

I shopped for years looking for just the right artist, and I found her at Paradox Tattoo. Chentelle is my artist and she totally rocks. We have just finished session #3 of my sleeve (the forearm is finally done and healing really well). I didn't bring any reference materials in, just described what I wanted. It was amazing how she took the ball and ran with it - didn't have to do any edits so far. It is uncanny how she just knew what I was looking for. We are already talking about the second sleeve. After 4 visits (my significant other also had a tattoo done there and it is really awesome), I noticed that their shop is kept consistently clean and sanitary. They aren't the cheapest in town, but you get top quality work, with clean fine line details, and consistent color saturation. Her flowers and watercolor effect is freaking amazing. The shop has some lengthy wait times, but they are definitely worth the wait. read more

The first time I went in was before they had even officially opened their doors. My wife wanted some tattoo work and I told her that she must find someone amazing because her ideas were on the larger size. We went on the search and came upon Whitney. We made the trip up from Portland to talk with her and she was very welcoming and professional. After my wife's back piece I decided that I must make an appointment myself. Whitney is very talented so I had to book around a year out. I started my sleeve and due to unforeseen circumstances I had to cancel the following appointments. She was still very nice and understanding of the situation. Once everything was back in order I called paradox and got some more appointments set. Throughout the appointments I was extremely comfortable and saw nothing short of amazing artwork leaving the shop while I say getting my own amazing art. In fact,I didn't need all the appointments for my sleeve I made so my wife is now back in the chair getting a beautiful chest piece. Not only is it a comfortable, professional shop, but it's stellar artwork and Whitney works fast. The pricing and wait is worth it. This is my 6th time driving 3 hours one way from Portland after all, and there are some great artists down there. I get nothing but complements on my sleeve. read more

I got two tattoos here by one of the young women. I have seen her work and she did an amazing job and did amazing work on my tattoos as well, so let me explain the two stars. Attitude is a lot, especially if you want business to keep coming. My young lady was not rude, mind you, but while I was getting a quote from one of my favorite books tattooed on my ribs, Whitney had to chime in with a back handed statement. It was extremely rude and uncalled for simply because I chose to get a tattoo on my rib cage. It's my body and my choice, so no reason for stuff like that. Especially since I ended up having to pay way more then the job was quoted for in the first place. And that is why I found a new tattoo place. A little insight into what kind of person Whitney is and why you should go elsewhere for your tattoo: So this all happen about three years ago, I'm only now posting about it because I tried to just forget about it but I feel I should warn others so what happen to me doesn't happen to them. At first all seemed great, i had many appointments with Whitney, I regularly saw her about once a week... until the day I overslept (I worked till 12am the day before) and my alarm didn't go off, well I awoke(40mins late for my appt) in a panic and then read a very long, immature email from Whitney blasting me for not coming in for my appointment that day, I felt awful and profusely apologized, I explained what had happen and tried to work with her to make it up to her, by willingly forfeiting my deposit, coming in that same day or anytime at all, well she refused, she also used this opportunity to go off about how I only wanted one hour appointments and not six hour ones, losing her so much precious coin... Like yeah I would've loved to be able to afford six hour appointments being a newly graduated HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT LIVING ON MY OWN. So after all the many appointments we had had, the money I had given her(I tipped good everytime) it didn't matter, that ONE minor mistake on my part meant I was banned. I was able a few months later to talk her into at least trying to finish my half sleeve, but it was awkward and she still seemed sore at me so I never went back, and was now left with a half finished piece on my arm. (I still haven't received an apology from her, I'm not holding my breath though.) So to anyone out there who managed to read this whole review, I give this warning: Whitney may be talented, but she's unprofessional and will turn on you in an instant. She's strictly about making money, doesn't care about loyalty or art, this is not the kind of person that deserves to permanently alter your body. Possibly leaving you in my situation with a half finished piece. There are many other talented artists out there, and I have moved on to give one of them my money instead, as should you. read more

I had an appointment. I showed up, was told it would be another hour, because they accepted a walk in. Not cool. I would've been ok with it had someone had the courtesy to call me & tell me they're running late by an hour. Obviously my time wasn't important. When I asked if there was someone else who could do it (since there were people standing around) & was told no. There was no apology for telling me they were going to be an hour late. Common courtesy is sorely lacking at Paradox. Go to American Beauty Tattoo in Kent instead. They are a fraction of the cost & have GREAT service. I'm now very happy with my tattoo. read more
