I'm not the type of person that is big on the GYM. I hate going and have trouble forcing myself. So…read morethe other night at 11pm I was thinking I have to do something. I need a hobby man. I search to see what the deal was with this gym I passed a few times while biking. I saw it was an MMA gym and they were having a $19 week. So you can go to as many classes as you want in one week for $19. So I was like ok I'll try it. Being weird and uncomfortable in my own skin like I am I was anxious to walk in. So the next day i got a text from them. I replied I wanted to go over the options with someone in person. So they said stop in a little early. I got there at 5:40 while a kids class was going on. The owner sauntered over and introduced himself. Thanked me for coming. He seems like a very zen type of person. He showed me where to sit while the front desk helped someone else. Guy at the front desk was super helpful and easy to talk to. He gave the down low and didn't apply any pressure to sign up now OR DIE. You know how some places are. He just got me ready and then showed me where to go. The 101 class was really cool. A lot of people were new or just there to learn self defense. I didn't feel like there was any competitive I have to be the best. Everyone was pleasant and there to learn. Good mix of people too. The 101 class started on time and shot straight into drills. There was no time wasted in the hour class. So anyway I was impressed so I went back to the front desk. Again no pressure. He was just like oh how did you like it? He showed me a few benifits of signing up in the next 24 hours and then was going to leave it at that. I was like no sign me up now. So I got 2 weeks free, got my $19 back and got a discount on the sign up fee. All in all it came out to $169 a month I think. I wont be billed til April. The owner came over again while eating a banana and asked if I liked it too. I wanted to go back for the next 101 on Wednesday but my arms are really sore. So I'll wait til Friday.

This is a great place…read more I wasn't sure what to expect when I signed my 7-year-old up for BJJ classes, but we've all been pretty thrilled with the experience. The coaches do a great job running sessions with a wide range of ages and abilities. They strike a perfect balance between keeping things fun and keeping things serious. Everyone is so welcoming and supportive and the facility is spacious and clean.

On a trip to visit my family in the area, I asked a friend which BJJ academy he recommended and he…read morequickly said BJJ United. It happened to be super close to where I was staying so I went to check them out. Now that I've been to a few classes, I can say that even if I hadn't been staying close, I'd travel to get my training here! I was really impressed with the facility upon walking in. Honestly, years of driving down Old York Rd., I never noticed this place on the corner but looks are definitely deceiving from the outside. I was actually intimidated by how much space there was! I'm really glad there were water fountains too because I had forgotten my water bottle. Anyway, I was able to make it to mostly the midday gi classes that start at 11:30 and one evening nogi class and was glad to get instruction from different instructors, all black belts, and to spar with belts of all different levels. The academy where I train regularly in LA county is fairly young so we don't have too many higher level belts to train with so it was fun to continuously get challenged. I really enjoyed the focused skill training and the ample amount of time left in class to just roll. One thing that stuck out to me was that there was always room for everyone to start from standing instead of seated. Most academies I've been to start from sitting so I don't get much experience from standing, where all fights start from anyway so I was happy about that. All of this is to say that I will definitely be back!

**This review is specifically for the summer camp!**…read more All three of our girls attended camp here again this summer, and we absolutely love it. We were here last year, came back this year, and already know we'll be back next year. The staff has worked with us financially to make camp possible for all three girls, and that has meant more to our family than I can explain. There were times when my husband and I genuinely had nowhere else for the girls to go, and they made sure our girls still had a safe, fun place to spend their days and were able to have a full and amazing summer. We jokingly call it "swim camp" in our house because they swim every single day, which is easily one of the girls' favorite parts! One of our daughters, Stevie, is autistic and has a PDA profile, and the staff has been incredibly patient, understanding, and accommodating with her. They listened to us, worked with us, and made sure she felt supported without ever making her feel singled out or like she was a problem. We are genuinely so grateful for this camp and the people who run it. Our girls have made wonderful summer memories here, and knowing they are somewhere they are cared for and loved gives us so much peace of mind. We LOVE them and cannot recommend the summer camp enough. We'll see you next summer!

EVER MET A SWIM INSTRUCTOR THAT NEVER SWAM DURING YOUR LESSONS?…read more Looking for swim classes here? Do yourself a favor and skip to the next center! The swim instructor was hesitant to get in the water. At first I thought, "this is great.; she's sitting on the edge of the pool to see what I needed work on" Fast forward to the second class in and I was in disbelief. She actually NEVER got in the pool. Apparently getting her hair wet is a big no-no! Furthermore, the place is very messy. The building is old. I decided to take the plunge (no pun intended) since the price was reasonable but would not recommend this place for swim classes for adults.
