Then the next day I get another email saying I was too late, even though I had responded before their deadline. I really appreciate how patient Elena is to young kids. My son has enjoyed his lesson tremendously and has grown a lot since then. Elena has a great selection of songs that are not only age and level appropriate but also sound beautiful. She takes her time to teach him music theory, improve his technique and most importantly build up his love for music. We don't have to ask him practice piano at home, but he'd rather play piano to us because he's so excited to show us his new songs, or to show us his progress, which is a beautiful thing to see. He doesn't just learn piano at Elena, I can also see him learning how to be focused, patient, how to deal with frustration when he can't play certain part of a song well, how to not give up, how to keep showing up and practicing. They both were phenomenal instructors and have nurtured his music interest, encouraged him to grow musically and helped with bettering his composition skills. While he never learned the piano, he is able to play chords on the piano--a great accomplishment. The past year has been a challenge with distance learning and Zoom lessons, but it all worked out and the school was even able to hold an Zoom Spring recital for the students. Not driving to Santa Clara for private lessons with our teacher on weekdays is awesome. Both our sons have been taking weekly lessons since a young age and love coming for them. They are in book 6 and 9 now and progressing well. The teachers are dedicated, active classical guitar professionals themselves and great role models in the musical journeys of their students. Kids have developed personal relationships with their teachers over the years. Santa Clara location hosts group lessons, ensembles or recitals on weekends for students of both locations. I do recommend these for the all-around musical development of the kids and it encourages socializing with peers. Overall, kudos and high recommendation for California Conservatory of Guitar program if your son or daughter is interested in classical guitar. I know several members who have had songs placed in film/TV by people they have met at the annual conference or monthly song screenings. They also have a songwriting competition (which Sara Bareilles won a few years ago, before she was on the map), and monthly performances. It's a great way to network with industry professionals, and you don't have to be in New York, L.A. or Nashville.
