As patrons: they have amazing shows with top notch quality (for a community theatre type). Definitely great production value. Music orchestra is excellent, and performers work really hard. You look around and find what you want to paint, pick and choose your colors, brushes and water bowls to clean your brushes. Find a comfortable spot to start and then do it. I find each time I go I do better and I tap into my divine, creative self. I have two to three hours to get 3 or 4 layers of paint to make a deep expression of myself as an artist. Aside from learning an impressive amount of dance moves in a few days that can be filmed to look decent, the kids also have playtime midday including water play on Fridays. After care runs as late as 6 but my daughter was mostly just watching Disney movies with the very nice girl watching her, not much else was going on. Main con was that the camp was one of the most expensive ones per week compared with other camps locally with similar hours, including themed ones (eg hiller aviation). Also it was really hard to retrieve the video of kids' dances - it's hosted on canva and there's no way to download the hard file. Aside from that, my daughter had fun and we hope to do it again next year.

Even now, three years from retiring, I want to go back. Ballet gave me life, and it gave me something to look back upon, to say- "I accomplished this". Its fantastic exericse even if it looks so simple-- it really isn't. Karen is an awesome teacher. She's not any of those stereotypical ballet teachers- strict and all. She makes dancing fun and enjoyable for everyone of all ages. For the younger classes, older dancers demonstrate so the little ones can follow along. Older classes get to pull out the middle barre to see yourself better (in the mirror). Karen isn't too strict either, so she's not going to be one of those instructors you evny. In the summertime, Karen teaches a Variations class, where you can learn dances from Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, etc. In the wintertime, the Sugar Plum Fairy comes out to dance for the young ones, and signs their shoe! Karen also has several adult classes in the morning! Many dancers have tried various ballet schools around the area, and they find Karen's San Carlos School of Ballet to be one of the most friendly ballet schools in the Bay. Not to mention, Brooklyn Ballet School comes to recruit students every year for a summer ballet program. Great experience!

Came here for a trial dance class for our 4 year old. It was a pre-ballet tap class…read more First off, email communication is spotty. We've been trying to do a trial class for a few months and they never responded to our inquiries. Also, their schedule isn't listed online, which makes it difficult to know what is available. Parking: Pretty challenging since it's right next to a lot of auto shops and most of the nearby street parking is taken. Check-in was a little chaotic. It was unclear whom to check-in with and what we needed to do to prepare. They dropped off some tap and ballet shoes, but no sizes weren't listed and many didn't come in a full pair. It was also unclear whether we needed one or both pairs. The class itself was cute with an initial 20min of ballet then 20min of tap and 5min of choreography. By the choreography, I would say only about 10% of the class was paying attention lol. Overall, given the high cost of classes and inconsistent communication, I'm hesitant to invest in the classes should we ever need to cancel or reschedule.

At the other places I've been (not naming names, as I'm sure they're fine at what they specialize in), the instructors will show you how to do a move and then shrug if you can't do it. Here, they'll show adjustments or a previous progression and help you figure out how to do a move with patience and encouragement, and they won't leave you adrift feeling like you can't do something and not know why. He signed up knowing nothing about music, specifically the guitar, and now he can read, understand music theory and compose his own music. He's even decided to minor in music at college. Over the course of the years at Green Octave, he's only had 2 instructors, Teacher Eric initially and Teacher Matt D. for the last 2.5 years. They both were phenomenal instructors and have nurtured his music interest, encouraged him to grow musically and helped with bettering his composition skills. While he never learned the piano, he is able to play chords on the piano--a great accomplishment. The past year has been a challenge with distance learning and Zoom lessons, but it all worked out and the school was even able to hold an Zoom Spring recital for the students. Great job Green Octave and to Director Benny and Exec. Director Nelson!!
