Today we headed west (crabby tween and I) to visit my mom at her care facility and made a strawberry detour at Unger Farms. I had to pry her away from electronics and muscle her into the car. No u pick today, her arm is splinted. We grabbed a couple cartons of Hood berries and some jam, a strawberry lemonade, and a strawberry scented candle and took some pictures. It is dead on beautiful out here. A perfect weather day didnt hurt. The food that dressed up older people ( im guessing they came directly from church) were eating (strawberry laden belgian waffle with whip, spinach salad with berries, yummy panini? Oh my!They have good stuff to eat) looked delicious. We are coming back to eat lunch and u pick soon. Princess ate strawberries steadily from Unger farms to my moms. " Mom why are these so easy to bite into and so juicy?" Her mood turned around, yay for strawberries and sunshine! "Because theyre ripe, baby." "We have been missing out!!" Yep. We are totally good at raspberry season but now we have to add strawberries to our agenda. Sweet!! Go. You wont be sorry. Please leave some berries for us though, ok? Was out here for a work-sponsored family day. The grounds seem pretty new with a neat kids area. The cafe overlooks a picturesque pond and fields. We picked blueberries, which is a short walk away from the cafe/store area. The cafe/store had some already-picked berries for sale, as well as some packaged goods one would expect to find at a farm store. No fresh veggies though, but that could just be timing/season. The cafe took awhile to make one drink (just one blender?) and wasn't really WOWd by their service (they couldn't remember if we got one of our other drinks already) but other than that, I think Unger farms is worth another visit just to pick fruit if you're into that. read more

Unger Farms has the sweetest, juiciest, most perfect strawberries I have ever had in my entire life. I wish I had found this place sooner, I feel like I've been deprived of delicious strawberries for too long. I've heard of this farm from their presence at local farmer's markets, so I trekked out to Farm Land during the U-Pick strawberry season in June. Probably one of my best ideas ever. $1.25/pound, very affordable. Bring your own buckets and containers! The farm is right by a beautiful lake, so it was super relaxing. I let my dad and sister do most of the heavy picking while I squatted there and ate all the strawberries (shhhhh!). We were planning on using the strawberries to make smoothies since we picked so many, but they were too delicious to waste on blending. I may have eaten most of the 13 pounds we picked... SO YUMMY. I'm definitely going again next year! read more

Personally, I was disappointed with my visit. With the name containing the word farms and given the rural locale, I was expecting to be able to get some vegetables. Only a few apples and some berries. Just not what I expected. There seems be a small café and a table that overlooks a pond. Also on the other side is a playground area for kids. It was a disappointment for me, given I had something specific in mind that wasn't there (not really their fault). Maybe it was the day I was there, but nothing going on, so I was just in and quickly back out. read more

We had a lovely lunch at Unger Farms. My family ordered a strawberry spinach salad, cheese plate, and some gourmet sandwiches. The sandwiches came with a generous bowl of berries. All were incredibly tasty, seasonally fresh choices. Unexpectedly, the side of potato salad that came with one of our sandwiches was one of our favorites. I don't even really like potato salad and almost ordered seconds of this side. We ate on the deck overlooking a large pond in a marsh. A gorgeous view. The store had some great kitchen products. We left with some blue cheese dressing we had sampled, a farmer's market cookbook and a ceramic crock. The retail had a lovely although limited collection of local products. The staff didn't interact with us much. We ordered at a counter and returned to pick up our food when they called our number. I had them pack up one of our sandwiches which I meant to order to go. Although they were happy to do this, they put it aside on the counter and didn't tell me it was there or bring it back to our table. I was glad I didn't forget it. It was a gorgeous setting, a delicious visually appealing meal, and tempting retail experience. If they added table side service and slightly more welcoming customer service - it would be very hard to keep people away. read more

What a beautiful spot. I came across it by mistake and I can't stop going back to it. Their mixed berry smoothie is delicious and healthy tasting. Grapes and other products are really good. Unger Farms/ The Berry Café, a beautiful place to eat breakfast with a view of a lake and berries being picked freshly in the distance from their huge porch. I had their Belgian waffle which is more like a pancake with all the berries. You have your choice of blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or all the berries as I chose. It's also a storefront so you can purchase all of their berries and some vegetables that they have, honey, pastries, and products that they make with things that are growing on their farm. They are only open seasonal which I would think would give you the hint that their berries are non-GMO. They are open from Labor Day to memorial day and then close for the rest of the year. They are open from 9 AM to 6 PM but the café stops making food at 5:30 PM. If you're passing through or live around town and haven't checked them out you should give them a try; good place, and great friendly employees. read more

We came on Day 1 of u-pick for Hood strawberries. It was late afternoon and mostly picked through, as expected. We still did get to fill out buckets a little bit, but they were also selling Albion strawberries which are of the sweeter variety and SO DELICIOUS. I don't know if it's the Portland water that makes these berries so delicious or what but if being a Portlandian means eating these amazing berries for 3 months out of the year then sign me up! (I also saw a stand for their strawberries at the local New Seasons, yay for supporting local!) When I came back to Chicago, you'd think I was strawberried out but nope I went straight to my local Whole Foods and picked up a pint, but it just wasn't the same. read more

The Farm Store is beautiful and serves great drinks and food. The raspberry lemonade and the strawberry spinach salad were both yummy and extremely reasonable. The strawberries, blueberries and blackberries were wonderful. Funny, I've never been a fan of blackberries before but theirs changed my mind. What a cute place to spend an afternoon - eating, picking, taking in the lake and view. The gift store also has great items for cooks. Bought a olive oil decanter and wanted about 10 other things. Next time! I'll think about this place more for lunch now too. Can't beat the freshness, the prices and the location. Yum! read more

Met some friends to pick strawberries today. As their web site states, it is the end of the season for Hoods, but we found a decent amount and the kids had fun. Great place for a play date, with a small outdoor play area, picnic tables and farm store café for enjoying some delicious treats (we shared a strawberry shortcake!). We sat by the play house to watch the kids, but next time we'll sit on the beautiful deck by the lake. read more

We stopped in to pick up some Hood strawberries and let our kiddos play on the playground area. The berries are perfectly ripe and delicious. Where things went downhill was when we ordered two strawberry lemonades to enjoy. It took 20 minutes to get diluted strawberry water...20 minutes-really?! The kitchen is obviously poorly managed. Do not expect to get any customer service...they weren't rude just not overly friendly or helpful. My tip-get berries and go...don't order a drink (or food...those folks were lingering around much longer waiting!) unless you have lots of extra time to spare! read more

When the weather starts to get better and the berries are getting ripe, I always go to Unger Farm's. The hood strawberries are the my favorite food ever! I am a big fan of all the berries and products Unger Farm provides and would recommend them to anyone. read more

I bought berries from their stand on Walker Road by Cedar Hills in Beaverton and they sold me moldy berries! Who sells moldy berries?! I bought the blackberries, strawberries and blueberries, and the blackberries and strawberries had some mold on some. I had to throw away a few strawberries and a good chunk of my blackberries and I bought a a 1 box(6 dry pints). The blueberries were fine and delicious but this was such a bad experience. If you want to risk it anyway, then make sure to choose the pints yourself or go to the farm and pick them yourself. As for me, I'm not going to be spending a premium just to throw some berries in the garbage. read more
