I'm in Maine with family (I'm from Los Angeles) and my dad is giving us a bit of a tour around the area. This small shop has so much charm, such a cool theme, and had such a nicely displayed curation of books that I'm actually mad I couldn't fill up a bag and hang out downtown Kennebunk and just hang out, but moving on. This store is beautiful, and even though we didn't interact with any of the staff, they just seemed super friendly. On top of a great selection of books you could also snag some mugs or shirts and I'm also regretting not getting that, but I'll for sure be back in the future, mark my word. Overall, Octopus Bookshop is the perfect little bookstore for a beautiful little town like Kennebunk. It might not be anytime soon, but I'll be sure to check this place out again when I return to Maine.

Both have great local selections and appreciate customers and are NICE. My wife walked many blocks from our car to Octopus Books and had a book in hand that she was interested in buying, when the woman store worker was extremely rude to her. She actually insulted the size of my wife's professionally trained, papered service dog. She was very rude. Needlessly. Life is short and this is a book store with people purposely there to buy books and support local bookstores. To have a clerk treat book buyers disrespectfully is completely unnecessary and unacceptable. We will never cross the threshold of Octopus Books ever again. Shop someplace else.

My brother and I were spending the day exploring Kittery, York, and Kennebunkport and decided to…read moreswing by Wells on our way back up to Portland to see if anything stuck out to us. We were driving up Route 1 and noticed a few antique shops when we approached Douglas Harding. Since my brother is a fan of bookstores, specifically ones that carry old and rare ones, we decided to stop and check it out. DH sits right on Route 1 in a prime location. It's kind of unassuming from the outside, but once you're inside it gives away to how grand the space actually is. There are rooms and rooms filled with books - I kept walking around thinking I reached the back of the store but it just didn't stop! The shop carries a big selection and is neatly organized by section. There are clear indicators as to what is where, and they keep their rarer finds behind glass cabinets. You can honestly get lost for hours in this place, there are so many shelves to browse, and they have something for virtually everyone - from historical encyclopedia to a tell-all guide to Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. They also have a side room that is filled with maps of spots all around the world for sale. From what I can gather, a father and daughter own/run the shop - they were both friendly and offered help looking for something if we needed it. Overall, this was a great find in Wells - all the times I had been here I had never thought to stop in and I'm glad we did. It's definitely worth exploring if you're in the area.

Many older books in really nice condition. In what appears to be a house converted into a literary haven for book lovers, it's a spot that could easily be missed if you aren't directly searching for it! Despite having many older and used books they did honestly have a good selection of newer and popular books too! Compared to many other spots of similar nature I really appreciated the fact they had some newer and popular books in contrast to used books. It's a great way to bring in both those who want the popular and new and those looking to search through the shelves for that hidden gem! Prices seemed reasonable and while we did not interact with the owner nothing negative to say. A spot worth checking out if you find yourself in Portsmouth. It's a great thing to see and my wife enjoyed making a day of supporting these places. This particular one will be found on Route 1 in York. Parking is quite limited so be aware you may need to park close and walk over. They were running some special deals to celebrate Indie Bookstore Day including used books being buy two get third 50% off, spend $50 and get a free ARC book to name a few. Staff were very friendly and made everyone feel welcome. Similar to the parking situation it is a small building so if they are busy it may be difficult to wander around the store space wise but nothing that waiting a bit can't fix. They do also have a second floor that did not feel as crowded. Great selection of both new books and classics but also plenty of book related goodies that could be a perfect gift for the readers in your life. Yet another great local bookstore down in southern Maine worth stopping at!

Oh no I do understand that a different customer might have put that book in the wrong box BUT when…read moreI went back to look at your past issues you had like 4 long boxes sitting there and I asked how much are these you said there ALL $1 boxes I could also tell from the condition that most likely that was a book that you received when it was new it didn't sell so it made it in the $1 box as most do but that one just happened to go up a little bit in the 10 years it had been sitting in your store ! And like I stated before you came at me with the Mint Condition value ($15) which it clearly wasn't it was probably worth $7 so the fact that you couldn't give up a few dollars on a book that you most likely paid less then cover price 10 years earlier that's ridiculous all that aside I remember very clearly you saying oh that shouldn't have been in that box that should've been back here (pointing behind you on the wall) ! So your excuse isn't gonna fly ! Either way your a used item store so when you buy something from someone you only pay a price low enough so you can turn around and sell it for a profit right ? So what I'm saying here is let's say you buy an item for $20 and it's worth $40 at the time so $20 profit right ? That's good double your money so why is it so bad for you to just put that $40 on the item and leave it there your still getting the original profit you were originally fine with but your way of thinking is if that item went up $10 YOU need to get that extra $10 instead of letting what could be a loyal customer get a good deal and you still get the profit you intended from the beginning this is what I was trying to express to you in my last review I mean you have MANY items in your store that have been there for YEARS ! I'm not saying if you paid $5 for an item then it sky rockets to $500 to still sell it for $10 but I mean if you let that go for ....$300 then wouldn't you say you both win you only expected to get the original $10 but got $300 then your potential RETURN customer got an amazing deal to which you know he would brag about to EVERYONE! Stopped in this afternoon after my daughter walked past and saw the Pokémon signs. We stopped in…read moreand our initial contact was good my daughter looked through there binders and chose an 8 dollar card. She then began browsing the packs it was at this point they messed up. She said to them multiple times "excuse me" to ask about there over priced products that I was looking to purchase for her. I assume it was the 2 owners they were talking loudly and paying no attention to us as if we didn't exist. I made meaningful eye contact with them a couple times also to no response. After I finally raised my voice to a loud level to show my irritation we were finally asked how they could help? At this point I decided that these gentlemen did not want our business and handed back the 8 dollar card and let them know we were all set. I'm not going to say we have spent thousands or even hundreds but we definitely would have came back if we were treated well. Im sure my negative review will be followed by an arrogant rude response from said owner letting me know that my polite 8 year old and I were in the wrong please proceed with your arrogant response.

An over priced store with terrible customer service. The cards sold are damaged. This is what…read morehappens when mediocrity and no other competition happens. You get this pathetic excuse of a store. The BBB not finding in my favor is not a thing. That is not what they do. They contact the company and there is no actual finding but a mediator before court. I made it very clear I want my money back which I have still not received back. Now I'm going to go after thousands in court for misuse of my personal data. I'm still going to court to get my money back and falsely using my information to file a fake police report with my private information which is not what that was intended by my personal information. As I've stated this is the worst comic book store in the world and they should and will be shut down. Filing a false police report because someone says they're going to go to Court doesn't constitute a threat. They purposefully lied to me about the value of my trade it. Then misused my information to discredit me.
