I come from a small church where the Pastor there is my dad...even though I didn't experience growth there...here at Grove, oh I'm growing in the Lord and my dad accepts my decision and encourages me the more!! You definitely want to be apart of a faith based church to where you can grow as an individual and collectively... only what you do for Christ will last. This is a Christian/Baptist Chuch were all walks of life are appreciated and greeted with love. I invite you to come 7am 9am or 1115 every Sunday! Children's church is offered during 9am and 1115 am worship services. And REMIX (service for the preteens and teens) takes place every 2nd and 4th Sunday or one of the other. They are no longer Baptist; it's just Grove Church, to reach the masses. And that they have, with strong ties to the community. They're always involved in outreach, offering shelter, meals, and clothing to the homeless as somewhat of a shut-in for a week during the winter. They have partnerships with Bon Secours to provide free health services twice a month called Care-a-van. There's a school -- a Christian Academy. A homebuyer's program. Various ministries for everyone, especially the youth. God is at Grove. You should be too.

Children's Harbor has many dedicated, caring, and knowledgeable teachers. Unfortunately the same can't be said for the current management. On their very best days they are incompetent, sloppy, and completely overwhelmed with running the place. On their bad days they are dishonest, petty, cruel, and weirdly sexist. Our boys spent a year at CH where we were very happy with the care they received. The problems started when corporate suddenly fired the director and several other members of management under unclear circumstances. After this the quality of care started to slowly slide. This accelerated after the one remaining member of the old management team suddenly resigned. They then hired a new director but then fired her in less than a week, and again offered no explanation. When they finally hired yet another new director, Shevaun Bynum, and assistant director Coral Duval we hoped things would turn around, but the opposite happened. The first sign of serious trouble was that we suddenly started having to sign behavior reports for my toddler B whenever he was with one particular teacher, whom CH had just hired. These were always for extremely minor things like taking too many paper towels. Then they called one morning and demanded that I come pick up toddler A because he'd overflowed a sink in his classroom. A week later they sent A home again and offered no reason beyond "He wasn't listening." Having missed two days of work due to lack of care I pressed Bynum and Duval on this and the previous time they'd sent him home. As far as I could tell he was being sent home because he wasn't interested in the day's classroom activity. After this two weeks passed without incident. Then suddenly under the threat of terminating care Bynum ordered my wife and I to set up a meeting to discuss our boys' supposed behavior issues. What were these behavior issues I asked? The only thing she could offer was that they'd laughed at her when she asked them to do something. We set it up to keep her mollified until we could find a new daycare. There was a lot about it that was disturbing, but a few things stand out. The biggest one is that she closed the meeting by treating my wife to a sexist diatribe about how "we" know that girls are well behaved but boys were always the ones with behavior problems and you need to take care of them before it gets out of hand. Throughout the meeting they also got the boys names wrong repeatedly. A goes by his full name and we call B by a shorted version of his. They called both boys by shortened versions of their names that no one else uses. I'd also noticed that most of the teachers hired by them also did this, which explains the fact the boys didn't listen to them. I'll add that we've received no reports of any serious behavior issues in the nearly three months our boys have been at their new daycare. At the end of the meeting they actually presented a sensible plan. They would separate the boys and assign them to two teachers we knew they liked and responded well to. However, they made no effort to actually implement it. For the remainder of their time there I was told to drop them off together every day, and only once in the room assigned to one of the teachers we'd agreed on. I'm left to ask whether they are simply so incompetent and disorganized that they can't implement even this simple plan or if it was just a ploy so that they could say they'd tried to work with us before tossing our boys out. Either possibility leaves me in terror at the thought of entrusting mine or anyone else's children to their care.

I mentioned it several times to various teachers to no avail and when I mentioned it to Sade, she rolled her eyes at me. The solution, instead of cleaning, was to buy air freshener. So I called and emailed their corporate office and they took their sweet time getting back to me. My daughter doesn't live in someone's toilet; she shouldn't be expected to be educated in it. Once I filed the complaint with the corporate office, Sade retaliated against my 3 year old. Suddenly, after months of exactly 0 incidents, she was a problem child and we were getting incident reports and phone calls almost daily. Yet when my nanny picked my daughter up from daycare yesterday, she had several large bruises and obvious handprints all over her. Did I get a call? No. Did I an incident report? Absolutely not. My nanny asked my daughter what happened and she told her that "my teacher hit me and then shoved me down. I was crying and no one helped me." The CEO, Wayne Bell, is absolutely worthless and didn't even offer an apology about what HIS staff did to MY THREE YEAR OLD. This place is also located in front of a homeless shelter, so people passed out from drugs and alcohol are fully visible to your kid when they're on the playground.

Prices are clearly marked for almost all items for sale and staff is friendly and personable. There is a decent selection of various categories of merchandise though this store is a bit on the small side compared to some other areas thrift stores. I appreciate the presence of fitting rooms where one can try on clothing to check for a proper fit before purchase. Like most Goodwill stores, prices tend to be a bit higher than at other area thrift stores but the money you spend is going for a good cause and being reinvested in the local community. The store is located next to Roses in College Park Square Shopping Center. The large parking lot shared with the rest of the the shopping center tenants ensures plenty of available room to park your vehicle. The parking lot is generally well kept and the walkup to the Goodwill store has always been clear on my visits. Ingress and egress are easy with multiple entry and exit points in all directions.

At Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, there are several locations where you can volunteer. Just knowing that these families are being helped is a reward with in itself, and I appreciate organizations like this one. I'm going to make a commitment to volunteer more often like I used to in the past. It's been about a few days of volunteering, and I personally love the Young Terrace location. There's enough space to move around, and the guests (community) are grateful and very respectful. I've assisted with stocking and food distribution, but would love to see what's behind the scenes. Overall, if you want to give back to the community and feel amazing, check out a few locations, one may be real close to you. Sidenote: For those picking up food, there is a limit for each food category (canned goods, chicken, eggs, etc). You can have a bag full of produce. Quality is in good condition and some almost going bad, but you choose at your own discretion.

Highly recommend volunteering at the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia. It's fun, safe, and helps those less fortunate. Win win!
