The online quote was reasonable, and then when I tried to work with them via email, they said they would not insure the sailboat I want to purchase. Tom, the agent, was very arrogant. He just said "No" even though their system did give me a quote. Not even a suggestion for something else, nor a reason why. Not worth doing business with them. I'm moving on. read more

Our boat has been insured with UMU for several years with an average premium. When we initially went with this company, they were aware of an incident with a previously owned boat (a $1400 claim). Imagine our surprise when we just received a letter stating that our premium was quadrupling because of a claim 5 years ago on a previously owned boat and with a different insurance company. As lifelong, insured boat-owners with a great credit score and our history, we were shocked by this new bill - and by UMU's cavalier attitude about our complaint, and our leaving what we thought was a good insurance company. The cancellation didn't even include a thanks for your business, sorry to see you go or thanks for paying us thousands of dollars for doing absolutely nothing, except hanging out and collecting our premium every year. If you must have boat insurance, look elsewhere. You'll receive better service and fewer surprises. read more

According to their advertising and website they say that a quote will be on your screen in 90 seconds... Guarenteed!.. Well, I was looking for a quote for a 1969 Houseboat that we are contemplating purchase of and after filling all their information and spending almost 10 minutes going through their questions it comes up with a message that said a quote could not be provided. An agent would email me shortly. They email me and say the boat is too old. even though the website says they can handle any boat!. Rediculous. These guys are shady.... do not use! read more
