The town of Marshall started a project to completely…read morerenovate this historic building, which for many years served as the Harrison County courthouse and is at the center of the town square. They finished the outside, which looks beautiful, but then apparently did not have the money to finish the inside. So the courthouse sits with a chain link fence around its perimeter, with boarded windows, but otherwise a majestic monument to justice. Whether or not anyone can use it, it still looks nice, and they do a great job lighting it up at Christmas. Hopefully one day they will get the funds to finish the job. Until then, the very boxy and ugly current county courthouse to the west does all the state court business. P.S. I've been there more recently (as recently as Jan. 2007) and it looks like the work continues. The parking lot is fenced and more work is being done on the perimeter. Still cannot tell what if anything is being done INSIDE the building, though.

Missouri was not part of the Confederacy, but that didn't stop Missouri Confederates from sending "their" government reps down to Marshall during the Civil War to set up shop. Wishful thinking. The building where some people purported to move MIssouri is no longer -- it was demolished years ago. But true history buffs might want to stop by and recall one more absurdity of the Civil War if they happen through town.

However the wait staff was rude upon me inquirying what is on the menu. From his rude response I decided not to dine in dining car the whole trip and eat from cafe. Also there was no running water in the morning to brush teeth or wash hands after using bathroom. Overall experience is a 1 star. Worse off NO Wi-Fi it shows Amtrak Wi-Fi but it does NOT work. The Marshall post office needs new leadership. I have had packages missing, delivered to the wrong…read moreaddress, and been getting my neighbors' mail on more than several occasions. I've had mail shown delivered at my mailbox nowhere to be found. Today, I went up to the post office and attempted to speak with the postmaster. I was again missing mail, two packages. After being told she wouldn't see me , I told them I'm not leaving until I speak with her. The postmaster, Daphne Moore, came out from the back of the office, my packages already in her hands, which showed delivered to my address in their system from yesterday. She immediately met me with an attitude and refused to address my concerns. Offered no help, no apology, or anything. Just a simple search of her name on FB shows that I'm not the only person that has had issues with this postmaster. I'm not the only one on my street that has been having issues with mail delivery either. Several times we have gone days without anyone on my street receiving mail. I've already filed complaints regarding the postmaster's behavior and the carrier's inability to deliver mail. I'm sure it's to no avail. Another governmental employee that collects a salary with no accountability. There are good people up at the post office. This isn't directed at you, but after interacting with this woman, I'm sure she isn't much of a supervisor either.
