This review is based entirely on Spirituality & Health's daily email newsletters; daily motivation emails; website health e-books; and articles. Despite I am not a spiritual person this website contains articles and literature on mental wellness and relationships. I find their e-book "Being Your Best Self... With Difficult People" very resourceful and helpful in my Sisyphean Task. With a calm mind in turbulent times one can accomplish any challenge which the insight from Spirituality & Health provides a holistic approach. There is also the emphasis of empathy and compassion in their articles. However, the holistic approach is not entirely overpowering nor aggressive but very subtle in their articles and literature. Amid the daily motivation emails are heavily cluttered with religious and spiritual beliefs which many are irrelevant for me. This January, 2024 marks two (2) years of my beloved family member's expiring; this June, 2024 marks thirty seven (37) years of another beloved family member's expiring; and this March, 2024 marks forty nine (49) years of another beloved family member's expiring which all are indelible for my continual grieving the unfathomable losses. I read and value Spirituality & Health's grief literature which is comforting and healing. With mindfulness self-care, resilience, compassion, and understanding empathetic I believe the world can be a better healthy processed living environment. read more

This review is for the Filmore Cafe. I recently went there with some work colleagues. This use to be a bookstore, then a coffee shop. And now it is a full blown cafe, that serves wine and cocktails in the evening. I can only speak to the breakfast and coffee menu. The pastries were excellent. They offered a couple of breakfast sandwiches that were heated on site. There were also lunch type sandwiches. My blueberry muffin was good. I definitely appreciated the coffee, which is provided by Messenger Coffee. The seat arrangements are comfortable. There were over stuffed chairs, bistro level tables and stools, and regular tables and stools. Also, there are revolving art exhibits. I will be back for coffee. I miss the bookstore. read more

Unity Village is quite an interesting and unusual institution. It is Kansas City's equivalent to The Vatican City; the world headquarters for a religious body and also a distinct municipality. UV has a population of 100, its own security, a hotel, bookstore, cafe, golf course, nature trails, spaces for worship and seminars and some of the most beautiful architecture, gardens and fountains to be found in the midwest. The area is renown for weddings and family photos; a calming and tranquil place where man's creations and nature's best beauty commingle for a perfect aesthetic. I was lucky enough to have the gardens almost to myself on a recent overcast and cool Sunday afternoon. It was splendid and I am eager for an excuse to return. A must see for locals and visitors. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Unity Village a few weeks ago for Heartland Yoga Festival with my sister and stepmom. The weekend fell on the 11th anniversary of my Dad's passing. He was a major yogi, so we wanted to spend a weekend together, honoring his memory and Heartland Yoga Festival coincided with the dates. We decided to stay in the hotel for the weekend, which was a lovely experience. Our room was clean, serene, and quiet. The grounds were well-maintained and beautiful. It felt like we were in Europe! I also like that they had Mother Earth coffee available - one of my favorite coffees here in KC. We loved the walking trail and seeing deer in the evenings! The yoga festival was great, but I would come back for a weekend at Unity Village to enjoy nature and relax in the quiet environment. If you're looking for a mini-vacay just outside of KC, check out Unity Village... unless you want to drink. The grounds are alcohol-free. :) read more

Unity Village is a spiritual sanctuary. The grounds are extensive and host a variety of spiritually based events. I recently attended the Heartland Yoga Festival here, which was a beautiful experience. I've also attended a workshop to develop the intuition as well as the Monday night Buddhist group. Everything I've been to has exceeded my expectations and filled my cup. The grounds have walking paths to enjoy the beautiful scenery, something I hope to walk through soon! read more

We had the privilege of visiting Unity Village on Wednesday. This is the home of Unity Institute, the theological seminary for one of the world's foremost New Thought churches. This is where the "Daily Word" is published, for many people the gateway publication to discovering New Thought. After a choir reception, a film presentation, and a Q&A with the Dean of the Institute and the President of the Association of Unity Churches, we were given free rein to explore the grounds. My Lady and I spent most of our time in the archives, where the founders' offices and original theater are preserved, and at the Silent Unity Building. The campus reminded me a little of Stanford University. read more

I have my Oneness Blessing group here every Thursday. I've driven by it a kajillion times, not ever driving into the grounds. It seemed daunting to me. I was wrong. Okay, there's a restaurant that is mostly vegetarian. I've not eaten in it cause of my work hours, and working from home, I've not had a chance yet. Apparently it is open on Thursdays...ugh, I have no idea. Wanting to try it so bad. I'll update this when I do. There's a hotel, a rose garden and then the bookstore. The bookstore: Ekhardt Tolle, Sonia Choquette.....and on and on...Very large, and worth checking out. This is the headquarters for Unity Village, and it's grounds are breathtaking. I've seen alot of photographers doing what I think are senior pictures. Before one of my Thursday night meetings, I saws a family of deer in the front lawn. It is so beautiful, and uplifting. There's fountains, trails, a pool for members. I'm not a member as of yet. I forgot to ask at the bookstore about that. Being a member allows you to use their pool. My oneness Blessing meeting is in the clubhouse, and I drive by the pool. It is clean, friendly, well kept, and sits among trees and trails. I don't attend church,and have never attended a congregation at the Unity Village. They have alot of conventions there, and as I said, a hotel. They have speakers and groups that meet there. The hotel can be used by people who are members. I learned this from the guard, who actually offered to show me around. Unity Village and it's grounds are meditative and contemplative. Beautiful! I'd like to take my DSLR there and take pictures. read more

Okay, I've said it in a previous review and I'll say it in this one too...this place rocks my socks off! As a photographer this place is almost a dream come true. I hadn't heard of it until a client of mine suggested it and I immediately fell in love when i pulled up. It's a small religious campus with great buildings and backdrops. There are several fountains - many of which were sadly under restoration last time I was there - that make for a great backdrop as well as a wonderful sound. They do small weddings out on the small bridges over their fountains I believe. The doors make for great photos, as well as the awesome arched hallways that make great shadows! read more

I was here for a Ladies' Church Retreat a few weeks ago and was blown away by the beauty of this campus. I"m not a Unity Institute follower, but iwalked around during our "quiet time" on a Saturday morning and it was a great place to meditate and take in God's beauty, no matter what your religious (or non-religious) preferences. There are various prayer chapels that were open to the public on a Saturday. The architecture is Italian Renaissance, there is a rose garden, a prayer garden and lots of fountains. It would be a beautiful place to have a wedding and I saw a few photographers taking senior pictures. The icing on the cake is there is a coffee shop and bookstore where our own fellow Elite Yelper Sara D. works on Saturdays. i've always wanted to come see this place and I would recommend to anyone. It's a beautiful, serene place. read more

Unity Village is wonderful in so many ways. Their grounds are beautiful, the book store is unique, the people are warm and friendly and the hotel has a LEED designation. I am from California and visit them every year. It is a serene and meditative setting that sits on 1,200 lush acres The retreats are educational and you always walk away recharged and with new life skills. Went to the Denver Unity Temple where they have a resident self trained and unlicensed spiritual counselor and Course in Miracles teacher, Earl Purdy. Did a session with him and in it he said "Why your life is going to get more and more painful, I hate to break it to you." When I asked him what he meant he said I was negative and to get out. Went to the minister Sheila Gaylord who houses him. She was apalled to hear of the session and had absolutely nothing good to say of the counselor...that was until she learned it was her big draw guy Earl. Then within 24 hours she pushed my buttons to the point where she felt comfortable asking me to "Leave the church and come back when I felt better." The sick thing about Mr. Purdy and Ms. Gaylord is they both know i have been going through great psychological pain over the last years. So I went to Cynthia Vermillion-Foster who I was told was in charge of these things of ethics. Ms. Vermillion-Foster saw nothing ethically wrong in how her minister houses and uses an untrained counselor and he very obvious change in stance when she saw the possibility of attendance and money slipping away, nor did any of the honchos at Unity Village, who were CC'd on this. Like her minister, Ms Vermillion-Fokster, was not at all interested in getting a healing conversation going...just get this guy out. Of note a very prominent doctor and lecturer on the Course in Miracles had this to say: "What Earl did is both unprofessional and unethical. He is unlicensed, of course, but that's no excuse" Sadly the honchos at Unity Corporate do not agree. They just want this person out. But then when you have a spiritual counselor who says God's love is the ultimate Golden Shower (Look that up on your own) you really know lots. read more

Unity Village is like Heaven on earth. So beautiful and peaceful. And everyone we came in contact was simply lovely. I did not get to see everything but do recommend a daytrip there. I am considering a retreat there. read more

Everything went well and they did everything I asked, but they didn't have the fountains working or construction done one time which I guess is not their fault, but they said it would be done and it wasn't for my wedding day. I didn't get any pictures with fountains in the back ground which is mostly why I booked them for my ceremony. After all this they didn't even try to offer some sort of apology or reimbursement. They also didn't turn down the lights during the ceremony that was in my file. All in all it was pretty good. read more

I went to Unity Village in desperate need of a personal retreat where I could focus on the Holy Spirit for 24-hours with no interuptions. I stayed in a very simple room but wandered around at mealtimes without much idea of where to eat or what was included in my "retreat package" as I've experienced from other retreat locations. Basically nothing was included in my room fee. I also tried to take a walk on the walking trail but there were trees blown over onto it making it unsafe. The main reason I am writing a poor review of this place is because at 7:10am I was awakened to the loudest music I've ever heard coming from a vehicle driving back and forth in the parking lot outside my room. Not only was the music loud but the language in the song was disgusting and I was shocked that it was allowed at a public place. I ended up calling the front desk because I thought there was a lunatic outside trying to make trouble for retreat guests. It turned out that a group had been prepping the parking lot to host a 5k walk of some kind and this was the music they were listening to as they were setting things up. It may be a pretty backdrop for a wedding but as a location to have a personal religious retreat, I'd suggest you look elsewhere. read more

After my 19 year old nephew passed unexpectedly I had a very difficult time planning the services. I had never planned a memorial services before and had endured very poor services' at the first funeral home we contacted. With the services being only 2 days away, I called Patty, the event coordinator for Unity Village, in a panic. She was so kind, helpful,accommodating, understanding, and most of all, she was patient. We used the Filmore Chapel, which was beautiful. My only regret was that I did not pay to get the larger Chapel, as my nephew was loved by SO many, that there was standing room only! Patty helped us set up, take down, great people, round up children, work the mic, music and slide show, and really helped me accomplish what I wanted to in order to honor my nephew and take the extra burdon off my sister. Thank you so much for your services.... I will continue to recommend you to all. read more

For those who believe the Bible is a veiled puzzle, Unity Village (Myrtle Fillmore, Charles Fillmore) pulls back that veil a little to reveal parts of the Spirit of truth about practical Christianity. Walk around Unity Village - look for the symbolism (from the book of Revelation of the Bible). Unity Village is symbolically heaven on earth. What the Fillmores wrote (spiritual metaphysics) is about as close to the ideal of truth you can get (my view). Silent Unity (prayer tower) has been praying for people all around the world everyday for over 75 years. God is good and so are we; we create our own reality.
