In a small traffic island near Connolly Station, the Universal Links on Human Rights Sculpture was commissioned by Amnesty International in 1995 and designed by Irish artist Tony O'Malley with welding by Jim O'Connor.
It is a spherical ball with an eternal flame powered by natural gas, surrounded by a series of welded and interlinked bars and chains. The flame burns for prisoners of conscience, all those whom we failed to rescue from prison, those were tortured, those who were kidnapped, those who disappeared.
The small garden is somewhat well kept. I had to brush some leaves off the plaque to read it and there is some litter present.
