The fact that it was in English, a comedy, and at a venue that we have been wanting to check out (Universal Preservation Hall), is what drew us to purchase tickets. The cast were all excellent, not only as singers, but also as actors. Each was able to portray their individual role quite realistically. There were a couple of comical mishaps that I was unable to decide if they were planned, or truly unexpected but well covered by the performer (e.g., loss of a mustache). Not to take anything away from the singers, I found it more difficult at times to understand what the female singers were saying during their higher ranges, but that may just be a function of my personal hearing. The approximately ten-piece orchestra was excellent. The choreography and use of the former church's layout was taken advantage of to its maximum. The physical setup of the seating is mostly good. Any seat in the balcony has a totally unobstructive view. Stadium seats on the main floor are also unobstructed and closer to the stage. It is a few of the rows of seats on the main floor along the sides of the stage that may have some obstructive views if the patrons sitting in the row in front of you interfere with your view. We definitely will consider attending future performances by Opera Saratoga when they are held at UPH.

WOW! The Famous Hattie's Mardi Gras Soirée!…read more What an evening.. A once in a life time chance to win 2 tickets to Hattie's Mardi Gras Soiree at the historic Canfield Casino and we won! Left home early as we have a 45 minute drive on a snowy cold night. I'm sure glad we did as we beat the crowd and checked in without a hitch. The cocktail lounge was decorated in festive Mardi Gras feathers, beads, and masks. Just lovely... Yes this was a fund raiser sponsored by many local companies donating their merchandise to be sold at chinese aution and a 50/50 drawing later in the evening. We had our complimentary Mardi Gras Cocktail and hors d'oeuvres were passed by amazing waitstaff from Hattie's Restaurant in downtown Saratoga. We listened to the wonderful music of Dylan Perrillo Orchestra which was kinda like Russian, Polish or Oompah band different but fun but they did play more up to date tunes too. Just a great time! As the clock struck the 7th hour the doors to the enormous dining room all decorated similarly in Mardi Gras regalia. There had to be about 500 people attending so I rushed back to the the rear to snag one of the few tables in the back of the room. We were lucky to join two very nice people at their table to enjoy the delicious buffet supplied by Hatti's Restaurant, 45 Phila Street, Saratoga Springs and the famous chef Jasper Alexander. The music Soul Session began the dancers danced, the energy heightened and the music soared... Party Time! Only suggestion increase parking and maybe adding a golf cart like they do at the fair to get people to and from the gate.

First thing to point out is you need to arrive early as possible because the lines get crazy long. Luckily for us we already purchased our tickets online and were able to get in line right away. Secondly, if you need to use the restroom or do anything else, be sure to do that before you wait in line for the hayride. There is no stopping once you get in line for the hayride and once you get off the hayride you have to go through all the haunted houses back-to-back. When you get in line, they corral the groups into what looks like a large steer pen until its that groups time to get on the hayride. It's about a 15-minute ride through the woods - you experience several scare zones, and gory scenes. There are a handful characters like Michael Myers that run out and climb on the back of the wagon trying to scare guests, which is more fun than actually scarry. Once the ride comes to a halt guests once again line up to go through all the haunted houses. The haunted houses were hit and miss. Some were better than others and all the staff in the houses did a decent job. We had a run-in with one security guy that was just a complete jerk and threatened to kick us out for trying to take a picture with a character stating that we touched them when we did not, the character actually grabbed on to us, so WTF! Once through the haunted houses there's not much left to do but walk around, grab a bite to eat and something to drink. It was a little expensive but decided to get a few hot dogs, Snapple ice teas, and some other light snacks; roughly $40 for this. The characters walking around and doing photo ops in this area were great and their costumes were also very good. They stayed in character the whole time we were at the park so this made for a spirited evening. My biggest complaint is there is not enough Porto-lets available or seating near the vendors for the sheer number of guests attending. They literally had 4-5 stalls available for the thousands that can potentially visit here nightly. Also, staff were not stocking the stalls with toilet paper. There were a lot of unhappy Ladies here that night.

The cocktail servers did a great job at bringing out snacks and making sure every guest was taken care of! The only thing I found strange was that the "bar" did not serve water. We had to wait until the reception started to get a glass of water. The reception hall was beautiful. It is the perfect venue for a small wedding. If you are planning to have more than 100 people at your event, I think it will be too small. The tables were a little tight which made it difficult to get in and out BUT everything was beautiful. Again, this wedding was the perfect size for this venue. I will not comment on the food since I am certain it was catered by an outside company. Overall, we had a great experience at the wedding and the venue was beautiful. If we plan to have a small wedding, this is a place I would consider!
