I wish I could give this place zero stars. 1st just to have your water and sewer on is $80 before you ever use it. Then they use a 3rd party to process their payments so even if you pay it with debit on a Friday they aren't open and it won't post to your account until Monday. I called to tell them I paid it when I had it but bc of their crappy process they tacked on a late fee and an insufficient fund fee and was like a lot of businesses use 3rd parties to process payments. Who? Bc my car insurance, phone, Internet, my rent, nor any of the other bills I pay monthly does it. And bc they are like that, they screwed me and now I couldbt pay my rent they are scammy and I wouldn't do business with them if you can help it. read more

this is perhaps the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life and I'm 74 years old. I owneda business for 30 years and I've never had one problem in my life. I'm retired now living in a community in Ohio and unfortunately, I have to deal with this universal utility company to pay bills with. I'm on a fixed income. I have money. I've never been a day late on a bill they consistently hound you and send you threatening notices shut off notices failure to pay notices, I'm sick of them. I'm gonna a I don't have to tolerate this kind of business. I want people to know how pathetic this company is and when you try to call takes 20 minutes. Hold on hold to get to customer service. This company has the worst 'customer service' person, she is so very rude. My water bills usually run low, but somehow they turned a $17 bill into $78, this is wrong to do that. I believe this company should be sued for gouging on the late fees. Mine was not late, the bank closed my account at my request until they caught the person robbing me at the time. I had no warning from universal utilities, they just slapped that money right on there, so look at that I got robbed by the water company too. It would be great if we went to city water as it does not contain rust w/bad smell. read more

WARNING - do NOT do business with Universal Utilities (office based on Fenton Road Flint). The water quality is NON-EXISTANT. The water smells bad and tastes WORSE. We were paying for water we could not drink or cook with. UU installed "new" meters and our monthly bill immediately went up $20.00 MORE per month. Universal Utilities does NOT provide any type of customer service. If you get to talk to an actual human, they speak down to you and are very RUDE and INSULTING. If I could honestly give less than 1 star, I would. Horrible company to be serviced by, with even worse customer service no matter what time of day that you call. My issue was, for the monthly meter readings, the representative was pointing some sort of gun at my house to get their reading, vice, physically walking up to the meter to verify the usage numbers. In turn, I was being billed for water usages of 13,00-17,000 gallons of water. That is simply outrageous, and in no way, can that be true. I have a family of 5. My kids are 6, 3 and 1. There isn't any justifiable reason why my water usages should be as high as they are claiming. The method of using the meter reading gun is highly inaccurate, giving the service rep a false reading. Is it really that hard to physically walk up to a meter and read it? You have one job, to accurately report readings, and even that is too hard. Homeowners beware, and continuously review your monthly statements. read more

Sold my home 2 months ago and STILL trying to finalize bill. These people will not answer your call and are not willing to help. I had numerous late fees because I was supposed to contact the new homeowners and have them call UU. That in my opinion is not my responsibility. They would not close my account until they hear from them (the new homeowners). Please be aware if your home's water bill in managed by them. I wish i could rate ZERO stars! Seriously the most ridiculous company i've dealt with since back when I first started paying bills. I'm 32, so Ive been paying my own bills for at LEAST 14-15 years. They charge a fixed rate for monthly water. Mind you, I am a single mom living in a trailer with my son. Our water bill anywhere else would be in the TEENS at best. With Universal Utilities, its almost $43.00 a month, no matter how little we use. But do you get credited for the overage that your charged for the water you did not use? NO you do not! But you think, "well its ok... because even tho use UNDER sometimes, there will be times I go OVER a well, so a fixed rate will be beneficial to help even things out when I go over too" right? OF COURSE this is what YOU WOULD THINK ... because that would be the right thing to do, that would be ethical, that would be MORAL! BUT ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!! When you go over the $43.00 "FIXED RATE" you actually GET CHARGED for your overages. SO ITS NOT even a FIXED RATE! Its actually a MINIMUM charge and its RIDICULOUS! NOT TO MENTION they are the ONLY company that STILL CHARGES TO PAY WITH CREDIT OR DEBIT. Who still CHARGES people to PAY their bills? That is ABSURD! "Oh, you are here to be a good customer and a good person and pay your bill? How nice. Let me thank you for paying your bill by CHARGING YOU a $5.00 fee" I can't say enough how HORRIBLE this company really is. You are tied to a company that is absolutely so awful to deal with it will give you a nightmare. Trying to pay your bill either over the phone or online is just ridiculous. Often, the system doesn't work, your call gets dropped, and if you try to pay past 4:00 PM you get an exorbitant late fee. Also, just to pay over the phone on a (awful) automated system you get charged five dollars. To talk to someone to help you -- then you have to pay fifteen extra dollars to pay the bill. Seriously?? I tried to talking to a "manager" today who told me I could not speak to anyone else and NO adjustment could be made (20 dollar late fee) when I tried about 20 times to pay my bill yesterday on the due date. The most frustrating thing you could imagine, and it's not the first time this has happened. BE PREPARED for a nightmare!!! The worst company to ever exist. For one they way over charge for their crappy service. Two they add fees to your bill all the time. Three, they always seem to lose the payment in the mail so they always come out to turn off the water. Then when you pay the service tech they magically receive the first payment. Worst company ever. I would have never moved into my subdivision of I knew what a nightmare this would be. Tina is so rude and disrespectful. I've been overcharged, charged fees for no reason and when I call to discuss issues with bills or fees she will not work with you at all. My last house had water direct from township, and I never had a issue ever! Now? Every month is something with this company. I cannot wait to move!! I live in traverse city unfortunately they infested this area too. I have paid $21.14 per month for the last three years, not bad but I damn sure don't drink it. There customer service is a joke (yes they do have real people working there but don't ask questions they don't like which is most or they'll hang up on you) you get a 75% "service fee" trying to pay over the phone a 25% charge if you elect there auto ripper service any late fee is a 75% fee I've not had a reconnect fee yet but I've herd horror stories from a few of the neighbors. So I paid by m/o every month it's a bit of a hassle figured I just send a m/o in to cover the next 6 months. Now the only amount owed on the bill is the service fee of $6.?? The water and sewer are left blank however they decided a 20% increase on my bill (and 40+/- of my neighbors) without prior notification is completely acceptable. So my real concern is that I HAVE to have this service from a company 250 miles away for local municipal water or they try to get you evicted like a degenerate and no one seems to be able to give anymore than a 1 star rating even the bbb what's worse EVERYONE IN THE WORLD knows that Flint should have nothing to do with water service. I don't mind paying bills but when the water is $10 more than the gas I really wonder why I'm paying a company that would rather f### with you over a few dollars knowing you can do very little about it or get kicked out of your home over a billing discrepancy read more
