When did consumers energy stop trimming trees on home owners property and became the responsibility of the home owner. They put blue paint on my trees in 2019 but never came back. said they needed different equipment. Now saying its my problem now that there out of control. They will take the power line down and short out the neighbors also if mine comes down. I'm 70 and on a fixed income now and can't afford thousands for a tree trimmer. I took a limb off my wires near the pole last night. they only seem to trim the easy jobs. No preventive maintenance any more. read more

We just witnessed 30 people attend an all day meeting at Coratti's Pizza in Howell Michigan today. They spent the day eating and drinking and ultimately RAN OUT ON THEIR $1300 BILL. Knowing Consumer's Energy continues to raise rates for no good reason, it's amazing that your employees feel they can grift at other establishments. If there was another option, you would be done! I cancelled my service with CE in October of 2023 as we had sold our home. I ordered "Electrical" (electrical only, not gas, not appliance warranty) service only in November of 2023 for our builder at our new address (and new account #) so he could have electricity for his various tools. We received our Certificate of Occupancy on 1/19/24 and moved in the next day with all brand new appliances. I recently found out that CE has been charging me for the Service Appliance Plan without my permission, without asking me if I still wanted the plan, without asking me what plan I may want, without asking me if I needed the plan, without asking me if I need anything covered Ala Carte. I have been charged over $800 for a plan that I did not want or renew. I actually had problems with an appliance and I called the store I bought it from, not CE. You do NOT need your appliances covered by a secondary warranty when they have a manufacture warranty. Canceling my service means canceling all of my service. The amount charged each month is taken from my bank on the same day, in the same transaction, not two different transactions. I see a huge corporation taking money from a loyal customer and not making any kind of amends. I called CE on 2/25/25 to lodge my complaint and did not receive a call back as promised twice! I had to call again and again! CE has a monopoly over me, I have no where else to obtain my electricity. I am asking that all of my money be refunded as it was stolen from me. If I had not allowed CE to take my monthly payment directly out of my bank account, they would not have been able to steal this money from me. read more

Not very happy, not only was our electric increased but the contractors you had out to cut our pines down did a terrible job! Left the stumps to big to pick up. We are in our 70s could have at least cut small enough to carry. Also why was our pines cut but our neighbors had some that were left alone, still with blue paint on them. If you are a builder, you know Consumers is the worst company to deal with. Long lead times, poor communication, lack of service - the list goes on. I see poor reviews from Customers but want to chime in on the initial installation time, it is a major pain being forced to work with this company. Ask around if you know a builder, guarantee if you mention Consumers Energy you will hear a big groan (at least in Northern Michigan). Woof. read more

Man oh man. ..I feel like I make money just for Consumers Energy. But I pay my bill faithfully every month. Gas and electric is not free but i guess somebody's has to provide it...sure wish it was me...lol. A Consumers Energy Bill can be paid directly at the main building Monday-Friday 9-4:30pm and also can be paid at other authorized Bill payment locations for a minimal fee. If you have trouble paying your bill Consumers Energy has payment plan options and many programs that may assist you. All you have to do is call 1-800-477-5050 and follow the prompts to speak to a representative. Sometimes the wait can be as long as 10 minutes but it's worth it to receive help and relief. Be patient and you'll agree that that was the best thing to do. read more

Dear Consumers Power I just want to thank you for the great work done today at our residence at 9116 N. Latson Road Howell Michigan. We had lost power in the early morning and of course did not know the reason. We left to deliver meals to seniors (Meals on Wheels Program) around 9:00 AM, never realizing that it was our transformer that had blew up and was hanging on the pole!!!! Anyway, we get back around 4PM, and our neighbors tell us all about it!!!! They said that Consumers showed up at around 10, and by 12:30, they had a new transformer installed at the top of the pole with new shielding, new ground wire, etc. all completed, and of course by the time we returned everything was totally back to normal. That really is fantastic service and we certainly appreciate it!!!!!!!! The worst of the worst. This office is a shameful mess, which is why no one uses it. If you try, you will regret it. Want to talk to a live person? Don't make me laugh. I'm not certain that actual people even man this office. If there actually living, breathing human beings at this office, then it's likely only one or two people left to deal with the deluge of in-person complaints, bills and phone calls. Try contacting them if there is a power outage, which happens so often that I couldn't possibly come up with how often they are, but there have been at least two unspecified outages at my house (blown transformers, accidents) in the past two weeks alone. It usually happens 16-18 times per year, sometimes more. Does that sound normal to you? I've lived in a lot of places over the years and never has an experience with a power company seemed so bad as it does now and with this local Consumers Energy. It's pitiful. Anyone remember the week-long outage that the local Genesee County branch of Consumers Energy was so unprepared for the week of Christmas 2013? I do. Some people got their power back after three days (I was one of the few and the lucky), others were out over a week, while some people had theirs flick on and off and on again. Elsewhere, a smattering of homes across the county had power here and there, generators were sold out everywhere, frozen pipes abounded, hotel room vacancies were nil, and the local Consumers Energy branch had to call in reinforcements from energy companies across the country to truck in their own crews to work overtime to restore power. Yes, that happened, even though the company was well-aware of the weather warnings ahead of time and refused to heed advice from other power companies to have extra crews ready to handle a potential blackout in a freezing ice storm. Eventually, they even stopped leaving automated messages on their phone line apprising residents of estimated restoration times. Good times in Genesee County. As for the crews that come by once in awhile to do maintenance of power lines, I don't have much to say about them that could be considered positive. They do the bare minimum, often less, leave a mess, and rarely show up as scheduled. They accidentally cut off power to homes while doing restorative work more often than is imaginable. Want to complain? Call the local Consumers Energy branch and talk to an automated voice. Don't expect a return call because it isn't likely to come from Consumers. If you try to come into the building or even get near it, they have made it nearly impossible. The driveway/entrance/exit have all been shifted around and there is no room to turn around. The lines are so long that cars extend out onto Court Street bleeding into the traffic just trying to get in the lot. Don't bother with them for anything unless you feel a need to drop a payment in the overnight box or have business to deal with them in person. If that is the case, I feel bad for you if you have to talk to a live person at their offices. I just pay my inflated bill every month online and wait for the next power outage. read more

Try to work with Consumers to get a new service. It is the most incompetent company the construction industry works with. Before we purchase a building permit we make applications for gas & electric. We can build the whole house before it even calls Miss Dig. Then it sends its supervisors out to check the job. We had 7 different people from Consumers come out to see if the job is ready. They all look for reasons why not to do the job. They call Miss Dig for new stakeing. Of corse they don't tell what they need. So Miss Dig comes out and place flags right next to the flags that are already there. No one from Consumers told Miss Dig what they pacificly needed. Talk to the people that work for Miss Dig. It seams that a company that installs utilities could locate some of their own lines. Or comunate as to wjat they need. No just turn it down and throw it back on the pile.
