The woman working behind the counter was friendly and helpful, and directed me to where the Georgian wine was. I picked up a bottle of Amber wine for $25. I brought it to my friend's house for Thanksgiving and everyone loved it- a few people took pictures of the bottle so they could buy it. I thought $25 was reasonable considering the wine was from 2016, and tasted really good. This place will probably become my go-to wine store in DC from now on!

I reentered the store to exchange/return them for a fresh pack. The counter person immediately got defensive and raised his voice at me, saying that he wouldn't accept them back--that because they were cigarettes, there was nothing he would do. He refused to exchange OR return my money. He lied and said he was the owner, and would not give me his name. He is NOT the owner. The experience left me reeling. It was horrible how he performed, and I want to make sure whoever the owner is that they know how customers are being treated. I was calm and collected. But he seemed to be wanting to incite an incident. At one point he just turned his head and ignored me and wouldn't speak any further. I left the store. It's a damn shame.

For a store this size, the depth and breadth of their selection is unmatched. They carry some important items and of higher quality. For example, they have an excellent vermouth selection. Excellent whiskey and gin selection. Great selection of liqueurs and aperitifs. Great selection of bitters. Some good mixers. Fine beer selection. Decent wine selection. Some sherries. Some special items that aren't easily found-- unusual liqueurs from Europe, for example. I saw some reviews suggesting that the owners are rude. Honestly I'm very surprised to hear anything negative. My guess is these negative reviews are a mix of inaccurate reports and rare bad nights. One of the employees is kind of quiet, but I think there's a language barrier. I don't hold that against anyone :)

That level of effort and care--regardless of the outcome--is what true customer service looks like, and I genuinely appreciated it. Note: The store is tucked away in an alley, so if you're using Google Maps, be cautious when navigating to the location--it's easy to miss or drive past.
