I love UHS! Joanie at the front desk was so sweet and helpful, and every doctor I've see has been wonderful. UHS has such a comprehensive set of doctors all under one roof, which is super helpful for busy students trying to get everything done at the same place (e.g. GPs, eye doctors, radiology, physical therapy, dermatology, nutritionists, an on-site laboratory, and more). The office is also great about answering the phone and scheduling, and I was always able to get appointments within a week when I needed them. The online portal is super helpful as well. read more

Worst university health care clinic I've ever had the misfortune of having to rely to on. they refuse to see me when I might have the flu and I'm feeling ill. I've been associated with two other universities before and I've never had this happen. Additionally, they are not even nice about it or try to find a solution. I'm a new grad student here who was told by one of my classmates to check out UHS for my sprained ankle. I called to schedule an appointment and the person who answered the phone had awful customer, or patient, service. I understand that you're dealing with students at their worst, experiencing various illnesses and conditions. Maybe it's just me, but it's your job to show compassion when working in the medical field. I had an even more awful experience when I met with the podiatrist. This old white dude was talking down to me like this was my first time noticing I have a foot. Dude, I'm asking you questions about how to wear an ankle brace because I've never dealt with that before and you're the expert. Idk man, as a social work student who wants to work in the medical field, the staff at UHS need to build better rapport with their patients. UHS has put my health at serious risk twice now, and I feel compelled to write a review. Two years ago, I was incredibly ill and went to UHS to get a diagnosis. The physician (not a doctor, you don't get to see doctors) diagnosed me with the flu and send me home with flu-related medicines. Five days passed and I was not only still ill, but exponentially worse. I'm talking waking up in cold sweats, shivering, not being able to do anything but lay face down in bed. On that fifth day, I get a call from UHS, "Oh hi, Tommy, we're sorry about this mix up, but we just saw that you actually have strep throat, not the flu. Please come in to get your antibiotics." That was something that screwed up my entire semester. Fast forward to today... I was up all night painfully and aggressively coughing. Took more NyQuil than supposed to and still couldn't fall asleep or stop coughing. Went to UHS at 8 AM to get this diagnosed ASAP... well what do you know. I don't even need to see a doctor apparently. A nurse pulls me aside after I give the initial information and symptoms at the front desk and tells me I don't need to see a doctor. I 100% have a viral cold and need to take ibuprofen and Dayquil and get some rest. Already having doubt in UHS, I immediately call an Uber to the nearest Urgent Health Care Center (on West Stadium Boulevard), and 30 minutes later, what do you know, I am diagnosed with BRONCHITIS and prescribed three medications. Two times now UHS has monumentally screwed up, and I will never, ever step foot again in UHS in the interest of my well being. I suggest everyone does the same. Urgent Care or the U-M hospital doctors are both covered by most insurances and will actually take care of you. If I could give it zero stars I would. The incompetence at a University of Michigan facility in charge of the well being of students is simply baffling. read more

I know that it's flu season and all but I waited 45 minutes to do intake, 1.5 hours in triage, and I told every person I had a sinus infection which they confirmed by my symptoms. I was moved into a private room to have a doctor come look at me and I waited another 25 minutes in there until I finally got up and found someone and told them I had to leave within the next 15 minutes to make it to my class. She immediately checked me out, confirmed it was a sinus infection, and got me out the door in under ten minutes. I don't have any other options on where to go on campus when I need a doctor but I really wish that UHS was more efficient, so I didn't have to plan three hours around my visit. read more

UHS no longer offers the walk-in service because patients complained about the long wait times--SO THEY GOT RID OF IT COMPLETELY! I'm guessing this is just a cover-up for budget cuts, because that is the worst response ever. They really couldn't think of a way to make the walk-in service more efficient? read more

Staff alone [the receptionists] ruin the experience. Besides eliminating walk-ins for ill students, they consistently despise their job. They bark orders instead of being helpful. Upon checking in, someone asked "you still live here right?" in a monotone, while pointing to my old address on campus. I said no and she threw a tantrum. "What? You...moved.....???" Even besides the fact that students typically change residences each year, her general demeanor was enough to discourage anyone from staying in the waiting room too long. Everyone in the waiting room looked miserable and I suspect it was not only because they were ill. It is the same treatment in the pharmacy. The actual doctors I have seen were fine, they were both friendly and helpful. They are the only reason this place gets 2 stars. read more

I'd give this two stars, except that U of Michigan affiliates have the option of also using their insurance at the far superior Taubman Center at the hospital just a short walk away. When better service is so easily available, then UHS is clearly a "methinks not." The worst experience I had: I needed physical therapy for my knee at one point, and the physician at UHS insisted I use the UHS facility instead of one of the university's dedicated rehab centers. The UHS facility has no weight or cardio machines, just exercise balls and thera-bands. It took a second opinion from a non-UHS doctor to get the referral to the rehab center, where I worked for almost 3 months to get my knee back to normal shape. Both my doctor and my physical therapist agreed that the bare-bones facilities at UHS would not have had the equipment I needed to rehab the knee. I actually went to UHS immediately when I injured the knee. I've had knee problems since I was a teen and knew right away that the situation was not good. I was not able to walk without a limp and significant pain. The PA I saw gave me a cursory physical examination and told me to take Advil for a few days and come back if it didn't get better. It was incredibly disrespectful of my assessment of my own pain and body. This is why I initially sought my second opinion, which later came in handy to gain access to the rehab center. I've had some ok experiences here too, but why bother with inconsistent quality of care when a truly excellent facility less than 1 mile away accepts the same insurance? I would also recommend not using UHS' in-house pharmacy. They do a fine job in terms of filling the script, but there is almost always a long wait for pick up. read more

It's hit or miss with the people who work here. When I had bronchitis I was put on some breathing technique crap that didn't work for me, but my friend who caught it from me got the right stuff. Another time, they messed up the dosage on my prescription medication which put me in the hospital. One year for my pelvic I got a doctor who was a JERK, and made me wish I had given preference for a female doctor. However, birth control is super-cheap here. Plus, I've also gotten care from some gems. The other upside is convenience. If you are a student, it is such easy access and very affordable, so it's hard not to take advantage of it. read more

My experience has been fine with UHS. This wouldn't be my go to place for primary care, but since it's a short walk away it's a great option for students. The prices of treatment and perspcriptions are even with other providers, some are higher and some are lower but it's pretty much the same. Better to spend a few more bucks for the convenience. The travel clinic is similar to any other ones you'd find in a major city or doctor's office. They do make you watch about 30 minutes worth of videos with repeats what they just went over. Docking a star because that was a waste of time. Overall if you're a student they're a well organized and fully resourced option consistent with what I'd expect for a major university. read more

I don't understand why this place has such a mixed reputation. I've been a student here for 6 years now (undergrad and grad) and this place has been excellent. Just call ahead for an appointment if you can. Here's the trick, be nice to them and they will be nice to you as well. I've seen too many students waltz in the building, acting as if they were the only ones with an ailment. Talking to friends at other colleges, I don't think we are fully aware of how lucky we are to have UHS. read more

Billing should be investigated. I have had nothing but bad experiences with their billing and emergency room. Had to resort to a conference call with them and the insurance company to prove they were trying to bill me for $950 + dollars that the insurance had paid months earlier. That is just one of many nightmares stemming from their gross incompetence and/or negligence! read more

I'd like to give a shout out to the physical therapy clinic at UHS, which has provided me with excellent care. Not only do enrolled students have access to far more sessions than under regular insurance, but the therapists themselves are highly experienced and really work to understand the origins of your condition. This review is only for their Allergy, Immunization and Travel Clinic - I find myself coming here every 6 months or so to get my immunization shots and have never had a problem with getting an appointment, finding street parking, or getting in and out in under 15 minutes. While it's a little annoying that there are no walk-in appointments, all you have to do is call (734) 764-8320 to schedule yourself the next available appointment, which is usually the next day. Having a formal appointment time really speeds up the wait, which in addition to all the nice staff make for a pretty good experience. A plus is that the lab and medical records office are both right upstairs, which makes for a quick get away. The only thing is that I wish they would stop asking me to update my contact information every time I call to make an appointment... read more

Possibly the worst health care I have ever received over my 4 years at Umich. 1.The staff is often short and rude. 2. I have had trouble reaching anyone for long periods of time and was on hold until I was hung up on multiple times. 3. I was prescribed medications I was severely allergic to even though they told me it was related to a medicine that they already knew I was allergic. 4. They failed to send out my prescription multiple times and was without my prescription for a long period of time 5. They blamed an error in there scheduling system on me, so I had to wait another extra week to receive care. read more

Appalling, unsurprisingly since it's a university-run place. The shrink's "diagnosis" consisted of questions she seemingly pulled from some online site (I could have diagnosed myself far more accurately than she did). The referral system f---ed up *a number* of times, and the University hospital downtown claimed that they did not have my appointment on the system. Are you f---ing serious?! Also, the pharmacy did not have my prescription -- twice. And I don't live in Ann Arbor so it's a pain to come to town only to be told they do not have what they claimed to have ready. Abandon hope, all ye who enter here. I will only recount my one time visiting this clinic, since I found just being sick to be a better alternative than coming here for any sort of help. Freshman year, no car, felt like I was dying, I needed some sort of relief. Besides an obnoxiously long wait, indifferent staff, and excessive paperwork, I did not get any sort of medication when I was in dire need. I exhausted myself coming down to central for nothing, and needed to return back none the better. During the rest of my time at the University, it was much easier to wash my hands before every meal and fight off colds and coughs with over the counter medicine. My advice is to find someone to drive you to a private practice, or just fight off the sickness with bed rest and clear fluids. read more

UHS has pretty terrible health care services across the board, particularly with regards to the nurses (poorly trained overall and they tend to do sloppy work). There's variation in the quality of MDs. The place itself is also quite dirty, which is a little disconcerting considering that it's a medical facility (and slightly amusing because UofM prides itself on being at the top in everything). Positives include the ability to access a number of services under the same roof, and it's a convenient place for flu vaccines and other mundane, routine health services. Also, the eye clinic has a nice selection of glasses (cute brands, up to date styles, etc.). All of that said, if you have access to other (better) health care providers, I would recommend choosing them over UHS. read more

I've been here twice for an appointment and the first time the doctor diagnosed me as having just allergies, when it was severe bronchitis and ear infections (went home to my home doctor). I would've had to have surgery if I had not gone to my home doctor in time. Second time I came in for a rash, doctor (same one) diagnosed me as having some crazy infection when it actually was just a skin irritation...glad I didn't get the pills she prescribed me because that would've been not only been a waste of money but also potentially dangerous if I were to take medicine that I don't even need. I came in for the international clinic to get shots and that went well, though (not the same doctor). read more

Wish I would've checked yelp before sending my son there, as I probably wouldn't have. They forgot him and he sat 2 hours (saw another review that this happened to someone else also). I finally called someone, so they checked on him and got him in right away. The very nice lady who I spoke with told me (I assume that this is what she was told), that they were waiting for strep results (which take 15min max), however my son said that a nurse mentioned that another nurse DID forget about him. Yes, my son should've been more aggressive at finding out what was wrong when several walk-ins BEHIND him kept going in to see a Dr BEFORE him, but he wasn't feeling well, and didn't feel comfortable doing so. Hopefully he learned better for next time, but shame on this place :(. read more

I have been under Dr J. Parvaz's professional care. She is outstanding. She has Excellent bedside manners. She is Extremely thorough! Her communication skills are superb! Despite her full schedule she is prompt in responding to my questions or concerns. I am amazed and in awe of her ability to correspond and send out tests results with her impression and detailed explanation. She follows up on medical issues & gives out her recommendations. I guess I'm not sure if non-University affiliated people can go here, but since the UM community is so large I suppose I'll review it. If you have private insurance, go elsewhere. UHS sucks. I'm frequently sick, and a poor student, so this is my only choice unfortunately. Last time I went in, I literally spent 4 minutes in the doctor's office before I was rushed out. They don't seem to care about their patients. They also don't seem to know what they're doing sometimes. Once they told me they couldn't give me antibiotics for my severe sore throat because it MIGHT be mono. I ended up in the emergency room because I couldn't swallow, and the ER doctor said "you definitely need antibiotics and obviously don't have mono", and I started recovering within 24 hours. They're frequently rude here, especially the desk staff. Wait times are hours long if you don't have an appointment, and for some reason they'll only sometimes let you schedule an appointment. It's difficult. read more

Even if you are the first patient and show up literally first right when doors open, you will still not be seen by the actual Doctor till 8:45-9. Oh, and you will have to repeat what's going on to about 4 different personnel before making progress. read more

My experience with UHS is mostly positive because I went often enough to find the right doctors -- there were definitely some along the way that I didn't like or didn't trust or seemed completely useless in helping me, but I kept coming back because I'm on a budget and there aren't any co-pays for grad-care at UHS. My favorite primary care physician was Elizabeth Cardinale (great listener and great person, communicates really well, allowed me to participate in figuring out how to address my issues), and my favorite doctor for annual appointments was Monique Steel (SUPER fast, sweet, and overall excellent). I usually had to schedule appts very far in advance though, which was a problem when I was already experiencing symptoms or needed something addressed, but fine if I was planning ahead for a visit. I should say that I would never come here for concussion treatment though. I saw several doctors for that and none of them seemed to get it right, which I learned after finally going to Neurosport to see concussion specialists. Don't bother with the physical therapy here...the wait is soooo long and they can't really work with you enough to effectively treat most issues. Go to Medsport instead. The co-pay is worth it. The allergy clinic here is fantastic in my opinion (doctor and nurses) -- I would highly recommend them. read more
