Adapting to them is not always easy but we are both doing well. I go in today for a routine appt. Any issue we have had (almost none), they have solved it promptly. Good experience.

I generally get my hearing aids from the VA, but they've been less than helpful in replacing my over the ear hearing aids that have suffered thru covid with me. They've been launched, dropped and lost when unmasking and background noise has 1st priority So unwilling to continue that frustration in the drawer they went. That was the beginning of the next level of frustration. Finally reaching wits end and having been inundated with mail from local hearing aid companies I decided to act. I learned that hearing aid vendors are like used car salesmen, lure you with rock bottom prices and try to upsell into the model that is practical with the most profit for them. So enter Costco Hearing Aid Center, in typical Costco fashion they buy in bulk, and have stores all over the country. So I stopped in, talked to the audiologist and scheduled an Appt. After the hearing test we discussed the options. Since the audiologist are not paid on commission I feel I got better info with no pressure. Hearing aids chosen, molds made and come back in 10 days to pick them up. Huh? Normal took 4-6 weeks at the VA. I show up, they fit great. They were programmed to my hearing deficit, connected to my phone and now I can hear you. They are brand name with the bells & whistles *I* wanted. It was a great experience and now I wonder why it took me so long. Costco may not be your first choice but the may be your last.

We are now in mid July, and I have heard NOTHING. Making several attempts to contact them has not been successful as they do not answer their phones and all messages have fallen on deaf ears (pun intended) as I have not received any response. If this is the hassle I have to go through to get my hearing aids, I'd hate to think of the type of service I would get for any follow-up attempts. I have attempted to cancel my order through TruHearing but they also cannot get a response as they need the order back from McCurley to cancel. So it looks like even the supplier can't get any action. I would hate to get a lawyer involved just to cancel an order that was never received because McCurley staff continue to ignore me. Funny how just the 5 star reviews are the only ones posted.

The new ones are still great after another five years. I just went in for some help replacing the tips of them (at no charge). I was afraid to monkey with them on my own. The office was very helpful and friendly, taught me how to replace the tips myself and gave me some extras. You will not get care and quality like this from places like Cosco -- I know because my partner went there and wants to take his hearing aids back and go to McCurley.

One thing that really struck me was the security. We had to stop and be wanded and have all of our belongings searched before we were allowed to enter the waiting room and patient check-in area. It feels good knowing there are no weapons in the area and that everyone has been checked. Don't forget to leave your pepper spray in the car. There was an individual who was just kind of hanging out, laying down on one of the chairs. Security came to move him along and before long, there were 6 to 7 officers surrounding the individual who was refusing to leave. They were able to diffuse the situation and remove the gentleman without violence or harm. I was extremely impressed with the security in this new emergency unit and the professionalism of the officers. Another great feature is the mobile triage unit. In the waiting room, folks are triaged without having to get up from their chairs. Of course this is extremely helpful for people with mobility issues and the team was expeditious and professional. Another great feature are the private consultation cubbies that they have in the waiting room. The providers can come out and meet confidentially with the patient's family without having everyone in the waiting room listening. A super way to protect HIPAA. The visitor check-in staff were clear, kind, and personable, even with people who are not particularly kind to them. I felt like they actually cared about me and my family, which was really nice for a change. They also seemed to know who we were when I went back up to see if we could go back yet. I was really surprised because it had been an hour or so and many people had rolled through, but they knew right away that we were already checked in and able to go back to visit my family member. Each family is escorted to their family members' room in the back so there aren't people wandering around which again ensures greater security. My family member received exceptional care in the new emergency unit. He had Level 2 Trauma and was assessed quickly with myriad tests and imaging studies completed. We arrived at the hospital around 8 PM in the evening and after making sure my family member was being taken care of we left and were called at 4am to come to pick him up. This is remarkable considering many people, including me, have noted waiting upwards of 15 hours in the old UNMH emergency room. We were seen and my family member treated and released within eight hours! This was simply astounding to me, given how long it usually takes to be taken care of in an emergency room. The staff in the emergency unit were professional, kind, and forthcoming with information when they had it. This included a nurse and an x-ray tech with whom we interacted directly. Also, when we were trying to figure out where to go, a really nice staff member from the hospital (possibly a nurse or tech), who was taking his dinner break, kindly walked us to where we needed to go. Even when I tried to wave him off because I wanted him to eat his dinner while it was hot, he still proceeded further to make sure that we got to the right location quickly. He was also incredibly personable and kind. I feel that my family member received top-notch care by an experienced and professional team of individuals who worked together well to care of, not only my family member, but me and my other family member. At this point, I am happy to highly recommend the new University of New Mexico Hospital, emergency department and critical care tower. You can drop patients off at the Yale exit for the adult emergency unit. The pediatric emergency unit is a separate entrance and another location (see a map of UNMH online before you go). I don't have details on that since I haven't used it. I'm sorry, but I did not take pictures of the emergency department or waiting area in order to comply with HIPAA and to show general consideration for those in the waiting room. I hope you never need to go there, but if you do, you'll definitely be in good hands.

We were particularly impressed with Dr Sim, who helped us with the hard decisions.
