I'm giving untie the knot a complete five star review for several reasons. Firstly my ex and I were in no position to spend a fortune on divorce proceedings. our children were grown and we had grown apart culminating in our agreement to end our marriage. We were looking at several different "do-it-yourself " options, however research yielded a very high percentage of DIY divorce applications were rejected by the courts. Finally we decided to give Untie the Knot a chance and could not be more pleased with the outcome. For various personal reasons we took a fair amount of time to complete the process on our end but by the time we were ready to submit our application to the court we were confident our application was in order and left the rest to the team at UTK. If you are filing an uncontested divorce, this is certainly a less expensive solution than going through lawyers. And during the document preparation process I found them very communicative and knowledgeable in what we had to provide in order to properly complete the documentation.........but unfortunately that is where my good experience ended. In my case, they filed the final documents in February at New Westminster Court without bothering to check to see if there was a processing backlog. After hearing nothing from them for 2 months, I contacted them to get an update only to find out that there was a significant backlog due to staffing issues at this jurisdiction, and that in April 2015 they were only processing filings from November 2014. I was told it could be another 6 months before my divorce is finalized and that they could not move it to another jurisdiction now unless we appeared before a judge to make the request in person. If indeed their estimate is right this would bring the entire time from start to finish to approx. 1 year. Of course I am not so unreasonable as to blame them for delays in the public court system. However what I did expect, perhaps erroneously, was for them to be aware of any situation at a jurisdiction when they file documents on behalf of a client that may materially affect the processing of the documents. If there are significant delays I don't think it unreasonable to expect them to alert the client and where possible provide a different option for filing in another jurisdiction. This is apparently what they are suggesting for all their new clients now that they are aware of this delay at this particular jurisdiction. Had I not called them, I would have been sitting here for months not knowing what was going on. So yes, it is comparatively inexpensive and when all the ducks line up I am sure the process is efficient and expedient. However, I can only speak from my own experience and unfortunately it has not been a good one. I would caution anyone using this service to make sure you ask the questions with respect to any processing delays at the court level in the jurisdiction you are planning to file in BEFORE filing. read more
