Only one person is at the till at anytime and with a line that travels 20 yards (not joking) it's the worse I've seen in years. In the past it took me 30-70 minutes to get seen for a 30 second transaction. The Brighton store is a disgusting place for customers. For example the one in Eastbourne and Cambridge is fully staffed and helpful, but in the Brighton store. Very understaffed and should be shut down.

Now on the lower ground floor of WHSmith, it resembles a dole centre. Squashed into the corner of Smiths, next to the stairs and escalators, it's void of life and sunlight - except for a long snake of disgruntled looking customers. I've had the misfortune to be stuck in the queue several times with parcels to post and believe me, the atmosphere sucks. How-ever many people are serving, you usually have to wait 5 to 10 minutes and at busy times, like the run-up to Christmas, you can wait as long as half an hour. Even the TV screen playing post office adverts on rotation can't distract from the fact, this is a horrible Post Office to visit at any time.

I swear this is like the Post Office of the future…read more There are no queues here. Instead, you take a ticket, and get to sit on a leather seat in air conditioned comfort. You just relax while fiddling on your phone, writing Yelp reviews or something, and then when your number gets called you go up and they sort out whatever you need to do. The result is a relaxed atmosphere and staff who seem happy, and therefor treat you well. They are keen and happy to help, and the post office offers all the usual services you expect. It's really good here, for a Post Office :)

Harinder considered our age and explained the cons and pros of the application system and chose the safest system to apply and receive. He was very knowledeable in that field. He also advised us not to travel with out a travel insurance, and to my wife about a life insurance for six pounds. We were very happy with the service. It's spacious, clean and bright, with a reasonably sized sales area selling stationery items - the queue goes through it, so you can browse while you are waiting. Service is pretty reasonable - the queues here don't seem too bad, and move fairly quickly, and the staff are generally friendly. Christmas is the exception though, when you may have to wait 15 minutes. It's always better first thing in the morning. Services include everything you'd expect from a large branch - Royal Mail, Licences, Bureau de Change, Insurance and various other offers from the Post Office (though these are mostly available online too). There's a bus stop just outside with a wide range of services.

When you do get through the corner shop, the post office area is much bigger than it needs to be. There are 4-5 desks crammed into the small space, meaning there is nearly always a free desk: a great service. The turnover also seems to be quite good: I've never waited more than about 30 seconds. In the end, the post office is a must-visit place: everyone has to post letters every now and again. The ladies who work here are ever-cheerful and helpful, and are excellent at getting to know their regular customers. If you come here more than a couple of times you will end up feeling like a very valued regular customer - they're just lovely! We drop in here regularly to pick up stamps, send parcels, and sometimes with a whole stack of E-Bay sales to send off. Whether you come in for one stamp or with a pile of parcels, the welcome will always be warm and genuine and your transaction will be treated with attention and interest. Nothing fazes these ladies!
