Although it hasn't been a problem with the staff in the past 2 1/2 years, current or new staff at Uptown Dawg are not capable of taking care of large breed dogs with seperation anxiety. I am very disappointed with how they treated my dog today. He cannot be left alone, which is why we take him to daycare. If he is left alone he will become so distressed that he will become distructive and could even possibly hurt himself. Today, Uptown Dawg left him alone in their lounge after seperating him from the other dogs. They told us he was too hyper and his running triggered aggression in other dogs, and he needed to be seperated. No one could stay with him because they were understaffed. Since my dog was in total distress from being left alone, this overwhelmed the staff and they called us to pick him up early. I understand why they needed to seperate him, but I am really upset that they isolated him when he suffers from really severe seperation anxiety. They did not have the capacity nor experience to take care of my dog and in turn he experienced tremendous amount of distress. It is so unfortunate. read more

Terrible. Will never return. I dropped my dog off, spoke w/ the groomer as it was his first time going there. We agreed that she would take off half of his length (he is a long haired pom/papillon cross).. Pomeranian's should not ever be buzzed, as there is a chance the hair may not grow back, or if it does, it could be a different texture. My appt was made for 10 am. They estimated about 2 hours until he would be done, at 1230 i called to see how much longer, they advised 30 minutes. an HOUR later, i called back. This time they wanted another hour.. when asking why it would take 4 hours for a hair cut, they explained the appt actually got moved to 11 am (no one called to tell me this, or i would have dropped him off at the correct time) I then go pick my dog up.. he is BUZZED. I wanted to speak to the groomer, who wouldn't even come out to talk to me knowing she screwed up. I wouldn't waste your time or money on this joke of an establishment. read more

My dogs are well cared for and looked after and get very excited as we enter the parking lot. I found the staff happy & accommodating. My beagle was definitely ready for a nap when she got home. I left her there for 2 nights 3 days cost me $100. She usually gets a little separation anxiety & will pee and whine when she sees me. She must not have noticed my absence cause she acted like she had new friends lol. I can't say enough good things about this place. I have a 12 year old Duck Toller who doesn't really like to be brushed. When I drop him off at Uptown Dawg, he's usually a woolly mess. He comes out looking beautiful and with all of the scruffy undercoat removed. He's quite happy going there and I think of it as preventative housekeeping. We love Uptown dawg!!! We have been bringing our fur baby here for year and they always take care him. Anytime I drop off my little pup he gets nervous and never wants to go. But the groomers always take care of him. One time he came back with kennel cough, not their fault as he wasn't vaccinated, after I called to let them know, they had called back a few days later to check up on our pup to see how he was doing. The smell put me off right away when I walked in but I was still willing to let that go. It really does smell bad there and I now know why. I left my little shy puppy there, bought the $260 non-refundable package for 20 half days (in good faith) but on the third time I left her there, I had been having an inkling to check out the where the dogs were/ the play area. It was tiny, cramped, there were 50 dogs aimlessly walking around (there was NO room for the big dogs to run around and play) - that was the big dog area. The small dog area was worse, with a 150 sq ft and 15 small dogs cramped and no room again to run or play. I saw two staff for 50 dogs, unacceptable. At that time they had were conventiently cleaning the back - the garage doors were closed and I couldn't see how they kept up with the 50 dogs peeing and pooing all day long. Needless to say it wasn't being kept up unless it was desperately needed ie. a client who wanted to see the back. I have driven over the bridge that is right by the doggy day care and it is pretty nasty. So I called for a refund, was told no refund - eventhough I had only used 3 out of the 20 half day passes AND that the owner would call me to discuss maybe a refund could be arranged. No one has called me back. Go with your gut instinct, if the dog care smell, so does the business, the owner has smelly customer service AND use another doggy day care. Customer service and word of mouth are crucial in any business. I have now told a dozen people - usually people who I meet walking my dog - about how smelly Uptown Dawg is and how they should never give them their business read more

Very disappointed with the service here. I ordered a peachy keen collar through them from the Coquitlam location in late November, called the Port Moody store to ensure the order was placed in early December and was told there was no record of my order. Found out today that my collar finally came in after two months, but in the wrong fabric. All I heard was excuses about how placing my order through the Coquitlam location was confusing. No attempt to make it right, and completely unsympathetic to the fact that they completely wasted my time. read more

Used to be a good place to board your dog. The staff is very good, but management is a different story. I booked my dog who is a regular visitor 2 weeks ago, and I got a voice message just now telling me that "they had changed their policy and will no longer accept senior dogs". This happens 5 days before a major international trip for our honeymoon. Of course we freaked open hearing this and called them back. The hapless employee promised that the owner of the company would call us ASAP to see if a compromise or alternative could be arranged. This call never came. Managed to get the dog boarded at a new place, we are very concerned about how this will be for his well being. I am disgusted by the callous and cynical actions of "Uptown Dawg". They don't really care about your dog. If the owner had the decency to make the call back I would give her a lesson on ethics and decency. Disgraceful. read more

I have brought my dog to uptown dawg on a few occasions, but I won't be going back. The owner seems totally unaware of what goes on in the back room were the dogs are kept, and never seems to want to do anything about complaints. my dog had poop and the smell of pee on her legs once when i brought her home, and another time I found fresh tooth marks on her shoulder. I know dogs play there and they can play rough, but I do not appreciate the unsympathetic attitude of "dogs will be dogs, they poop, they pee and they play". I was told I should go ahead and pay for a cleaning (most expensive cleaning iv ever come across!) if i don't want my dog to come home smelling like poop. They seem to spray dogs with perfume to cover up smells! Some of the staff seem nice but some can be very rude when I bring up concerns. I shouldn't have to pay for a washing if I don't want my dog coming back to me covered in feces!!! It would be like putting my child in daycare and getting him back covered in puke and being told "kids will be kids, we could have washed him but you didn't pay extra for it"! read more

Haven't had trouble in the past, but went today with my 2 dogs, I was not happy when I returned for pick up. They'd cut a chunk out of my small dogs ear, they let me know and told me I should go to the very I get it cauterized. They gave me a 10 percent discount for booking with their new groomer, I wish they'd let me know when I booked it was a new groomer. I may not have booked. I brought my dog home to sit and apply pressure, as I knew it would stop bleeding with light pressure and minimal movement, that's when i noticed that he was also bleeding from his rear left paw as well! They didn't even know! It looks like they may have cut his nail to the quick and he ended up bleeding on my couch and carpet. I felt horrible for him. I dipped his nail in flour to help stop the bleeding and then had to clean my couch and multiple spots on our carpet. I won't be going to uptown dawg in new Westminster again. read more

i had to remind them twice that my dog was deaf, when i asked to keep and eye on his ear, and make sure he doesnt get wet... they disregarded what i said and i picked up my dog soaked, which lead to an ear infection. This last time when i wasnt aware that they were not opening at their usual time and i asked to if they could do me the favor of letting him in 1/2 hr early (mind you there was already plenty of staff and other dogs in) she was incredibly rude and said only if i paid a ridiculous fee, when all she had to say was sorry we cant. So i waited around for 1/2 n hr when they finally opened she goes out of her way to make sure i will be here to pick him up on time.... and the best part is when i picked him up her mood had not changed, and made sign an incident report cause my dog aparently was rude to another dog... I wouldnt have had a problem with signing it if it wasnt for the fact that the previous dog that got picked up before had been told that he had not been good and when let out to the reception area litterally snapped twice at another dog ... and they didnt have to fill out anything... definetly not going back to this place also it has more expensive rates than most daycares read more

Really didn't want it to come to this but the behavior of the owner, Shannon has made it necessary. We understand that nick's and scratches at dog daycare happen. In fact, it's happened at Uptown Dawg before and we brought our Choc Lab Walter back many times. The most recent time was as we were moving. While at Uptown Dawg, Walter and other dogs were playing and bumped into and dislodged a wrap covering up a screw sticking out of a post. Walter was cut deeply for many stitches. He was taken to the vet and treated. Shannon immediately took responsibility and paid the vet bill. We told her we were moving and that there may be after-care needed . She agreed to look after it at the time. Fast forward 2 weeks.... Most of Walter's stitches came out on their own and with the vet's advice, we removed the last one. The next day, the wound opened up again and had to be re-stitched. We tried contacting Shannon to help multiple times throughout the day. When she finally returned our calls she was quite rude, said Walter's injury wasn't her responsibility and that if pressed she might pay half of the new vet bill. When I explained that wasn't what she'd agreed to at the time of the original injury, she said something to the effect of "too bad" and promptly hung up on me! It's really too bad to end the relationship like this as we would have continued to recommend and use the daycare frequently when in town. It's taken me awhile to finally write a review and now I will let everyone now how horrible this place is. I will NEVER take my dog here ever again. I left my dog for a weekend stay and within 12 hours they LOST her. My parents were my emergency contact and it took them having her gone over night until they finally called my family. I'm assuming they were trying to find her and cover it up so I would never find out. My dog was lost for 2 days, and somehow my 12 pound pooch survived. Although the staff was helpful in their search efforts I will never forgive the negligence that caused the situation in the first place. All I was offered in compensation was free daycare for a month and a grooming, the worst part was when I called to get her groomed they said they were too busy . So they lose my dog she spends 2 nights outdoors and reaks and they can't even squeeze her in for a grooming. so my advice is DON'T EVER LEAVE YOUR DOG HERE. read more

I took my dog and my daughter's dog to get groomed a few weeks ago, after about a week both dogs developed a hacking cough. My other dog is older and was not taken in on that occasion to be groomed. After online research we deduced that the dogs had been infected with kennel cough which they had all be vaccinated for. I called Uptown Dawg to ask if they had any known cases of kennel cough and they said that they had. I was confused as to why I was not informed either before my dogs appointment or after and the staff did not seem concerned that the kennel cough was being spread. A few days later my dog that had been at Uptown Dawg to be groomed had to be taken to the vet because her cough was getting worse and she was not moving around very much. There I received a $150 vet bill and my dog was put on medication because the kennel cough was enlarging her tonsils and it was difficult for her to breathe. 3 days later my oldest dog who hasn't stepped foot in Uptown Dawg in months was taken to the vet because he can barely lift his head and has liquid coming out of his eyes. There the vet informed me that his kidneys are tender and he has now been put on medication and may need blood work. I called Uptown Dawg again to inform them of all of this. I talked to the manager Jen and once again she seemed unconcerned. She said she would speak to the owner Shannon and then she would call me back before she left work for the day. I never received a call so I called back and was informed that Jen had left for the day. A few hours later I received a delightful call from the owner Shannon. As soon as I picked up the phone she began yelling at me about "contacting her staff" and "destroying her business" which I never once said. She also decided it was appropriate to inform me that kennel cough is "not a big deal" when I have two fairly ill dogs. I have researched kennel cough, I know it is like the common cold or flu, this however is not the point. The point is that when you entrust your pet to a business you expect that if there is an illness floating around within the business that you at least be informed, and if your pet does get sick you are met with compassion. You would also hope that the owner of such a business would be concerned about the animals that are going in and out of their business instead of yelling at dog owners about not paying vet bills. We wanted an apology and to let the staff and owner know that it would be helpful if they would inform owners of possible illness. Uptown Dawg has said there was a sign on the door and a status on their Facebook page about the kennel cough, neither I nor my daughter saw such a sign on the door and my other daughter didn't see anything on their Facebook page. I know when it comes to the health of my dog anything less then a phone call is simply not good enough. Overall I'm very disappointed in a business that I have been going to for over 4 years now and I will not be going back. read more
