This was my first year attending White Linen Night in the Heights after many years of wanting to…read morego. It always falls on the first Saturday in August which to me was one of the drawbacks. It's hot in August! Not sure if there is any significance on the date, but the event is inspired by a New Orleans tradition and started by New Orleans natives who moved to Houston. If you haven't guessed from the name of the event, they encourage everyone to wear white linen for comfort in the summer hear. From what I understand, it used to be a free event, but now they charge a fee of 15 bucks which to me is very reasonable as these type of events take time to plan, set up and clean up afterwards. They have live music, all kinds of pop up vendors, art, and all around good vibes. Alot of the vendors like White Claw, Saint Arnold's and others were giving away drinks which in itself should make one feel good about the small entrance fee. We did buy drinks and food to snack on as well. They also allow people to bring coolers which is cool and all, but there was some people that clearly were drinking all day and needed their friends to keep them upright. Glad I grew out of that stage. Once the clock strikes 10pm, they start shutting down and telling everyone to head on out. Overall, this was a cool event that I can see myself coming back to. I love how diverse the crowd is and the good vibes all around. Would I prefer it in the fall? Of course! Maybe they can make that happen one day. See ya'll there next year!

I guess there is something a little appealing about the whole chaos of it and I usually mange to run into people I haven't seen in a long time so I guess it's not all that bad. A word of advice: bring a little cooler for yourself with water or other beverages. To be honest, I have no idea what the alcohol rules are there but most people there are lit up real good so I guess it's pretty lax. As for parking, you're better off not bringing a car or taking a shuttle. I usually park 5-6 blocks away and walk but then I'm kind of grizzled and know my secret spots. A lot of street parking does open up after sunset too once the families evacuate the area with their children and the night boozing begins.

To start things off, I will say that I have a deep appreciation for the arts. I've been to many museums of fine arts and museums of modern art in one day. This is one way to show appreciation to local and less well known artists who are quite talented. On my most recent visit, I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon around 4 p.m. with my former boss. He found out that parking is far enough from the festival that they have a shuttle to take you there. We opted to Uber instead. Tickets are $20 per person for adults if you pay cash (and a few dollars extra if you pay by card). From there, there are 100, if not more, artists who have booths set up. They are there selling their art, and you'll see a great variety of different styles and painting techniques. Beyond painting, you'll also see sculptures, photography, furniture, and various knick-knacks. The price range can be anywhere from thousands of dollars to quite affordable. Many of the artists are quite friendly and will tell their stories to you. Once you need a break from the art, there's a good variety of food trucks and food stands to choose from. BBQ, Mexican, Indian, pizza, popular food trucks like The Waffle Bus, and more. I had a brisket quesadilla from the BBQ spot. There are also many beverage options, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, to quench your thirst. I had a cherry limeade. We spent about 2.5 hours at the festival and I didn't go home empty-handed. I found an artists who does drawings of famous Houston landmarks, restaurants and bars. He was selling three drawings for $50 and I had my choice from 40-50 or so different options. I went with the Houston Rodeo, River Oaks Theatre, and Buc-ee's. I love the opportunity to support local. Bayou City Art Festival takes place over multiple days. Whether you're in the market to buy some art, or you'd just like to appreciate the talent of a collective group of artists, you'll have a great time either way.

If you have to wait, the park right outside is a nice spot to walk around. The ticket price was reasonable too. They also have a tour guide with you from start to finish who is available to answer any questions about the installation, which was really helpful. It was a very unique experience and one of the coolest parts was that you can record messages and they become part of the actual art installation.

The idea that an underground water reservoir was turned into something to see made gave me a dark, wet, creepy feeling. Passed Recently I saw a HC article that caught my attention, and finally saw the Cistern at the Buffalo Bayou Park. This decommissioned water reservoir is now used in interesting ways. For one, there is an art exhibition called UnderCurrents, it mixes light and sound to give sort of immersive feeling. Its a ticketed event costing $15 and is on until Jan 24, 2027. The Cistern has huge historic value for Houstonians. Built in 1926, this was the city's drinking water supply for decades. In 2007, it completely stopped functioning and in 2016, it took the look as it is currently presented to the public- as part of history, art and even medication. ... Yes ... meditation, the unique acoustics provide a unique advantage.....guests can even bring their own cushions to enjoy it. They have various tours as well like the History tour, or the Experiential tour- this is great for first timers, or even private tours. The visitor center has all the information you may want, with a very friendly staff. An interesting place with some historical importance right here in Houston.

Specifically, the suvlaki has become excessively fatty and gristly, suggesting a lack of attention to quality control in meat preparation. While fat can enhance flavor, an abundance of fat and gristle in a single serving is unacceptable. The gyros now resemble those found in lower-quality chain establishments, lacking both quality and distinct flavor. Furthermore, the tzatziki was devoid of any discernible dill flavor, and the loukoumades were overcooked to the point of being overly crispy, similar to bucees beaver nuggets. A fellow church member shares my concerns, indicating a perceived absence of the dedication and pride that previous festival organizing teams demonstrated. I hope they get their act together next year because after stopping by for the last 22 years and witnessing the decline the last 3 I am about to just mark it off my calendar for the foreseeable future.

You can park across the street in a paid underground garage, or if you're lucky enough to find a street parking spot, certainly grab that! The entrance has a lovely view of Downtown which has made for great pictures at the time of graduations. There have always been ample staff on my visits for musicals and they are very helpful. There's a metal detector when you enter, then two large staircases on either side that lead you up to the mezzanine and separate stairs to the gallery. There's also an elevator that services all floors. On the mezzanine level there are multiple bars, often with themed drinks for the shows. But be careful - they come with hefty price tags! The halls themselves are gorgeous. Both have nice comfortable seating and wonderful sound. The view from the gallery in the main hall can be a little difficult for making out details on the sets, but it's decent.

It was raining and able to navigate to the theater without getting wet. The venue itself is beautiful, modern, clean, and well-organized. We were able to enter quickly and our tickets were scanned with no wait. From the moment we entered, everything feels organized and easy to navigate, with helpful staff throughout the theater. Our seats were in the Mezzanine section and the view of the stage was partially obstructed by the back of people's heads sitting in front of me, but still had a decent view. The acoustics were excellent and the show was a fun, high-energy experience. Restroom lines during intermission were extremely long but seemed to move quickly. They had a variety of drinks available but I didn't purchase any. The overall experience felt seamless from start to finish. Except for the parking. After the show, was stuck in the parking garage over an hour trying to exit. However, the Hobby Center is a great venue for watching a show. Would absolutely come back to watch another show!

Parking : 6/10 There are two parking lots , one parking can fit 16 cars. The bigger parking lot can fit around 28 cars. Venue: 7/10. , It could fit around 80 people for a wedding reception. Getting there : 3/10, It was hassle because there is a huge railroad Track next to the venue , so plan on some alternate Routes when you get there. Restrooms: 4/10, there were only 2 restrooms but at least it was clean. Decor: 7/10, it had a heights/ warehouse/garage type of feel to eat.
