The historic Buffalo Bayou Cistern has been on my Houston bucket list for a long time, and I finally made the effort to go. We came here on the first weekend of their new interactive art installation called Undercurrents. They have lights and sounds that travel and echo in the cistern, as well as microphones to speak into for visitors to record messages. It's a cool concept, although the speakers produce very garbled audio, so it's hard to understand what people are saying, especially when they played the pre-recorded poetry. We weren't sure if this was intentional or not, but I would assume not. The cistern looks cool, but really only for five minutes. We intentionally lingered, but we still left after 15 minutes even though the tickets were for 30 minutes. I reserved the tickets online in advance, and they were about $12.50 each for students. Even with the student discount, it was overpriced for what we got from the experience. There weren't any educational signs to read. They had us scan a QR code for a guide, which I thought meant would be a tour you could follow along on your phone, but it was actually just a short description of the exhibit and a few sentences about the cistern.

Went two weekends ago and had a good time! One thing to note is to be on time, we arrived one minute late and thought we missed it but we just had to knock on the door! We did in fact pay for the tickets online and I believe the prices were pretty fair. I like the fact that it sits near the park so you have something to do right after! I don't want to spoil the cool features this place has but if you're really into art and literature definitely go here! You pay for 30 mins but about 15 mins in you're about ready to leave.

Phil's knowledge of the areas made the tour very interesting and informative. I've lived in suburban Houston for years and learned a lot about Houston on this tour. Phil Petersen

I researched tour companies in advance of our trip, and I chose "Discover Houston Tours." Phil planned an itinerary and kept in touch with me before our arrival at HOU-Hobby. He communicated with me by phone, text, and email which assured me that I had selected the best tour guide. Our main purpose was to use our "free day" to tour Johnson Space Center. Phil picked us up at the airport and took us on the greatest tour of the Space Center. He guided us to every exhibit, so that no time was wasted. If I had been "on my own," I would never have known how grand the Space Center was. After the Space Center tour, Phil suggested that he had time for a tour of Houston. Phil's knowledge of Houston is unsurpassed. He took us to all the amazing places in Houston, including famous parks, River Oaks, historic sites, landmarks, and an opportunity to admire the skyline and the architectural beauty of buildings and skyscrapers. I am grateful for Phil Stewart's wonderful tour of Houston. Our visit to Houston was perfect!

I absolutely loved this tour experience! I did the downtown tour for my birthday and I'm so happy I…read moredid. It was so much fun, we had a wide selection of foods, and the guide, Christine, was great. She was sweet, down to earth, and knowledgeable. It's definitely a good amount of food. I was so stuffed by the end I couldn't finish certain dishes. I really liked 6 out of 8 of the dishes which I think is a good proportion considering everything was a surprise. We went to 4 different restaurants. I think everyone's least favorite was the last dessert, but it was okay because we had so much yummy food before then. I highly recommend the tour! The walking was nice since we were eating so much. You also get a little history tour as you walk. It wasn't too much walking so I think it's suitable for older adults and kids (I heard some of the other locations are more walking so be sure to ask if you're concerned). It's a little pricier than some similar tours I found ($70/pp), but they were much more responsive and easier to plan with compared to other places.
