Schad carries a nice balance of North American and European brands. Brands like Ed Hardy and Affliction are carried here and unfortunately Dom Rebel (based out of Montreal) has been styling a lot of shirts like them recently. Some of the other brands that I'm glad they have include Diesel, Energie, Sand and J Lindeberg. It's not for everyone but I do get complimented regularly. I believe there is a slight mark up on these brands compared to some of the other stores I've been in that carry these lines in Toronto and Montreal but it's not that much and the store owner and the staff are super friendly and super helpful. To get an idea, Chantel (the store owner) once tried on a dress for me that I was purchasing for a friend to give me an idea of what it would look like while being worn! That's pretty damn awesome!

However, I'm not as stoked about it because most merchandise at Saks OFF 5TH are specifically for Saks OFF 5TH and were never in Saks Fifth Avenue (like how the stuff at the Banana Republic Factory Store was never actually in the Banana Republic retail store). That being said, Saks OFF 5TH does occasionally have some pieces that were in Saks Fifth Avenue for a fraction of the price. However, at the end of the day, 70% off a $2000 dress is still $600, which is still too rich for my blood, lol (this is a real example, although from the Kanata Saks OFF 5TH - it was a beautiful Roland Mouret dress that I still dream about. Luckily it was 4 sizes too big for me, so I didn't have to do any soul searching, haha). Ok, let's talk about this specific location downtown. It's brand spanking new and they are still not completely finished renovating at the time of the writing of this review. Everything is really neatly organized. I was there a little bit before lunch time on a weekday and staff outnumbered customers. Maybe people just don't know about it yet. The change rooms are big and clean. They don't have doors but curtains. However, the curtains have little metal hooks on them and there are little metal rings on the wall, so you can "lock" your curtain. I thought that that was kind of cool. There is a large women's clothes section, a smaller men's clothes section and a smaller still children's clothes section. The women's shoe section is large, and the handbags section is decent. I think there's a men's shoe section as well, but I'm not entirely sure, as I did not check it out. It's a fun place to poke around. I'm glad that Ottawa is getting some new stores.

They have a clearance section upstairs which is a little messy but you can find some good deals. They had shoes made in Spain, Italy and Brazil (i.e. good quality leather) for like 70% off. The owner is super nice and she may sell you stuff for lower than the tagged price. Frou Frou is a cute little shop. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

I came to this establishment twice this week and i couldn't fathom the disrespect me and my friend received from two of the employees in the fitting room. The two guys laughed and ridiculed us while using foul language, they acted as if it was a hassle for them that we wanted to try on clothes. Me and my friend were both very respectful and don't understand what we did to deserve that TWO DAYS IN A ROW. The cuts are usually very flattering and they often have an asymmetric element to them, which is totally my style, lol. They only have regular sizes here, no petite or plus sizes. They often have sales of 20-60% off clearance items. I've gotten really cute pieces here for less than $10. This location at the Ottawa Trainyards is big, with lots of selection. Their fitting rooms at the back are unisex. Lots of free parking in the plaza.

My review is for my visit to the Trainyards location earlier this afternoon where I browsed the sales racks looking for a couple tops. I tried a couple on and selected 2 tops. One had a stain on the back of it. I was going to ask about a possible further reduction on the price. There appeared to only be one clerk in he store and she was busy with another customer. By the time she was finished with the other customer I had started to browse the store some more and decided I really didn't want to buy the tops I had selected, so I left.

I love rummaging through junk to find gems. I love that they have new stuff every week, unlike most stores that only have new inventory every season. I also love getting brand name items at discount prices. That all being said, this Winners location is one of the better ones in Ottawa. It's not big, but it has a good mix of stuff. They don't have a lot of higher end stuff here though. I don't think they even have a "Contemporary Designers" section, or if they do, it is very small. No luxury brands like Gucci, Valentino, Veneta Bottega, etc. In Ottawa, I don't think Winners carries luxury brands. I've only seen them at the Marshalls in Trainyards (same parent company). Anyway to give you an idea of the deals, I got a pair of Tsubo pumps here once for $26, and a pair of lambskin Cole Haan espadrilles for $36 - both on clearance of course. Although full disclosure: my feet are not a popular size (5). It's in a strip mall in Bells Corners - same mall as Shopper's Drug Mart, Metro and Mark's. Lots of free parking.

No asymmetric lines, oversized zippers, or creatively placed grommets, lol. So in other words, none of the things I really like, haha. However, I can appreciate a time and place for plain button up shirts or crew neck t-shirts. Oh they do have some graphic tees to spice things up. Prices are mid-range for what they are.
