When I lived there, it was always my go-to shop for the cutest gifts and gorgeous flowers--perfect for both happy and sad occasions for colleagues, friends, and family. Any time I needed a last-minute gift, I could simply share what I was looking for, and they would create the most thoughtful, beautifully arranged baskets, often paired with the prettiest fresh flowers. Ordered a birthday arrangement for my mom last week. Placed the order online the day before and Urban Poppy had no problems delivering it on time the next day. I found their website to be user friendly and the pictures of their arrangements to be beautiful and unique (unlike the generic pictures commonly seen on other sites). They provided me with an update when the arrangement was made via a "Bloomsnap" that showed the final product. That was a nice touch. They also sent another confirmation of delivery. We had a small family-only wedding on Tybee Island at a family home, and wanted to provide flowers for everyone (bouquets etc.) as well as a table arrangement to add some fun and beauty to our event. When Anissa came to drop off our flowers, I was taken aback. My bouquet was a work of art. I could not stop smiling! Probably the most exciting part was that many of the pieces in my custom bouquet and centerpiece were succulents and air plants that still had their roots--so here I am three months later with living pieces of my bouquet I've now potted up for keeps. It's hard to send flowers remotely to a floral designer...but I finally found a reliable florist with Urban Poppy! Mary was so warm and helpful as I explained what I wanted. This review is being prefaced with the warning that the owner knows I'm leaving this and isn't happy. On to the review! My FI and I were going to have a destination wedding in Savannah, GA. It ultimately did not turn out to be a good choice for us, but before all that happened, I was trying to find a florist for our very small, yet chic event. I knew going into this, I didn't need a lot of flowers because we were getting married outside and the place we were to have our reception was providing their own flowers. I was always upfront about this. Apparently, this is a problem for Urban Poppy. I spent a little over an hour on the phone with the owner, Anissa, discussing what I wanted and needed for our wedding. Having worked for a florist before, I am not clueless to how the process works. I am very familiar with flowers, the costs, the set-ups, etc. She shared she had gotten very unexpectedly busy and would provide a request to me, no later than a week and a half later. Knowing I'm not the only customer, I felt this was fine. This was a self-imposed deadline she gave me, suggesting it would more likely be just a few days. Again, no problem. I waited. And waited. And waited. A few days after the latest day she had given herself, I finally realized I was not going to get a quote. I wrote her telling her I was disappointed to not have gotten anything by now. I also shared that while we were not going to have a wedding in Sav, I was really glad we ended up not giving them any of our money, due to her non-response. This is part of the email response I got "...As I mentioned to you when we spoke- this is the height of our wedding season and not only is it pretty crazy, but we've had over 25 requests in the past two weeks. Rather than putting a negative review, I wish you would have contacted me first. I think it is unfortunate that we didn't chat first. I do wish you and XXX the best in your future and you know that when you and I spoke, I spent a lot of time and care with you on the phone. I would ask that you be so kind as to reconsider your review and perhaps understand the hectic nature of our season..." Isn't that nice? It's not her fault she didn't contact me. It's the over 25 requests, they got as a business. And the hectic season. I have never heard a place where it's the up to the customer to request something AGAIN, and somehow, if we don't get it, it's our fault. Especially if the deadline was given to the owner herself, by the owner herself. I too think it's unfortunate we didn't chat first, either. At any time she could have emailed me to say she was running behind, etc. I rarely think I'm special just because I'm paying someone for something I need. I am not special because I'm geting married. I'm just a customer. That's all. But I felt this was odd at best. When I shared I felt the reason I didn't get a quote was because we weren't spending major money, she never disputed that. So, I say, use at your own risk. Yes, the flower photos on their website are beautiful...it's what made me contact them! Yes, I'm sure their work is gorgeous. But something tells me you have to be willing to drop some major coin. Otherwise, you will likely experience what I did. She did try to contact my via phone after we spoke through email, but I had zero interest in speaking with her. I'm sorry, but if you are a business, you have to know things like Yelp exist. And then treat customers accordingly. I would look at other places first. read more

Writing this review because they 100% deserve it. I got married on Saturday in Forsyth Park on a small-ish ceremony of 20 people - we flew down from NJ. Sadly, we did not order flowers ahead of time but knew of Urban Poppy from when we last visited and stayed nearby. On Friday we walked in and told them we need a small bouquet, corsages (2), and boutinerres (3). They were more than accommodating in helping us pick color schemes using the flowers they had available, and offering a great price. We picked them up the next day 2 hours before the ceremony, and everything looked beautiful! I believe the owner's name is Anesse(?), but thank you to everyone working there that helped us. I've been a regular customer here and spent a lot of money at this establishment. Prices vary from very affordable to expensive. I like that they have a range of a little something for everybody. A very beautifully curated shop. However, I'm a veteran and at one point the owner was checking me out at the chash register and she went into a 30+ minutes long diatribe about why military personnel don't deserve discounts and how teachers deserve them more and just went into her political views and on and on. I really don't care and support your right to your political convictions but I did not feel comfortable being held hostage at the cash register while she tried to validate why she doesn't do military discounts. Lady, a simple 'no we don't do discounts. Our retail prices already reflect the best price we can offer,' and I would have proudly and happily paid either way. But please don't tell me about how I get benefits or what I deserve. You don't know me or my private situations. You don't know about my struggles or victories, my sacrifices and gains. She had no context to stand there and judge me and I certainly didn't deserve this treatment for asking a six word question. You don't know about my service and you sure as hell didn't ask. You just made assumptions and lumped all military personnel into the same basket. As a customer I've never been more offended or down-right uncomfortable in such an interaction. I just don't feel welcome in this store and I would never want to repeat this experience. I found it so utterly embarrassing and humiliating. I take my business to Carlstedt's and I've found there are so many other great small businesses in Savannah that offer excellent prices as well. Picker Joe's and the other antique stores have great finds at better prices and Carlstedt's will give you a better bang for your buck. I don't think these establishments offer discounts either but they never made me feel bad the first time I asked. I still bring my business to those establishments. It's not about the discount- it's about being humiliated for asking about it. read more

I went in to buy flowers recently for a sick friend and not only was the owner not wearing a mask, but she also had her young child in there also not wearing a mask. We are in the middle of a deadly, global pandemic, where cases are skyrocketing in Georgia. A friend shared her Facebook posts, where she is sharing dangerous, youtube conspiracy videos that are completely based in fantasy. I will never go here again, as there are many other flower shops in Savannah that are actually following safety protocols given by medical experts around the globe that I would much rather support in this time. read more

I found Urban Poppy using Yelp for our wedding a few months ago. This past weekend was made beautiful by them!! We received so many compliments on our flowers, and I was almost completely hands off in them!! I let them do what they needed, and with Hurricane Irma interrupting some ideas, they were still amazing!!! I got stationed in California after we picked Savannah for our wedding city. They were wonderful at communicating, helped explain flowers to me, and came up with creative ways to have my colors promoted in the bouquets (Navy/blush pink). I just cannot get over how beautiful they were, and I appreciated the communication leading up to, and even in the middle of the storm. Only thing to note, is have wedding insurance for florists. I will start by saying that Anissa FORGOT MY CHURCH FLOWERS!!! When I asked her at the end of the day what happened to my church flowers she claimed they weren't in the contract. I had signed FOUR different contracts with Anissa because she couldn't get her act together! I know she had a baby over the summer but she became COMPLETELY unavailable. I get it that you have a new baby but you need to either a) not take on business or b) delegate somebody to respond to your clients. After our initial phone consultation I was ready to sign a contract but Anissa ignored me for THREE months (I guess that was her "maternity leave" ... again, I understand going on maternity leave but she should have delegated an employee to handle clients). It wasn't until I sent a frantic and slightly rude email that she finally responded saying she didn't know what I was frantic about because we had spoken on the phone three months ago to discuss my vision for the wedding. I was frantic because I hadn't signed a contract and I wanted to be sure I had a florist!!! Ugh! When we finally spoke on the phone about three weeks before my wedding it was as if we had never spoken before. It was frustrating to have to repeat myself. But Anissa was so personable on the phone and had good reviews on here so I ignored my gut. Big mistake. She forgot my church flowers, my bouquet itself was already dead and wilting... The reception flowers were very beautiful so I will give her that. But it doesn't make up for everything else. After the reception I had my Aunt discuss the lack of church flowers with Anissa and she was SO RUDE! I have never experienced worse customer service in my life. She refused to remedy the situation and kept repeating that it wasn't her fault. She took no responsibility for an unsatisfied customer. Anissa definitely has a gift for floral design but I wouldn't hire her unless you are willing to overlook her abhorrent customer service & terrible communication. read more
