Situated near the corner of Chapel Street and Toorak Road, Urban Provedore boasts a popular location to both shoppers and foodies and the like, during all days of the week. Another brunch spot in South Yarra that does not fail to please, Urban Provedore is bright, clean and welcoming to its patrons. They are well-staffed and handle crowds accordingly, although one will likely have to wait fifteen or so minutes to secure a table on a weekend. Overall, facilities were good, clean and comfortable. Seating plans cosy but not to the point where customers are crammed in. Whilst lacking a patio/open area, garden arrangements were throughout the cafe, giving an outdoorsy feel.
My latte was rich and smooth with a satisfying fullness, minimal froth. Most places in Melbourne get soy milk based coffees right, although have had the misfortune of sipping one or two lumpy soy lattes in my lifetime - it's that annoying tendency of soy milk to turn into an early stage funky tofu right before your very eyes if not handled well. But Urban Provedore did well today! Their coffee art on soy was also pleasing - I know this isn't always easy!
The menu item of choice was the La Boquera Chorizo and Manchego croquet with olive soil, piquillo puree, goat's cheese and micro herbs. This Spanish style dish was delicious, though a bit small on serving size. The picante chorizo was spicy and had just the right mix of tenderness and crunch. The manchego croquet melted away with each bite as the cheese was soft and tangy. One might think there could be an overpowering taste of cheese in this dish, given the combination of both manchego and goat's cheese, however, the quantities used were enough for a very balanced dish. The two were paired well and there were definitely thoughts about ordering an extra croquet! The olive soil and micro herbs were pleasing in texture, soft, crumbly, however there was little taste. The puree was based on a Spanish variety of capsicum/bell peppers, though slightly sweeter. The sweetness of the puree added a balance to the spicy and salty flavours.
Urban Provedore is a delightful cafe, and I would recommend them to both visitors and locals alike. read more
