Every 'organic' vineyard i've ever been to has been pretentious and not really great tasting so I…read moredidn't have high expectations when we drove out to Krinklewood on the recommendation of a friend who's brother swears by the stuff. When we arrived I was gobsmacked. Krinklewood has to be one of the most beautiful wineries in the Hunter if not anywhere. It has a real Tuscan feel to it and there are chook and peacocks bobbing about (you can buy their fresh eggs here too). The staff were really friendly and really down to earth and if you're in a small group you can pull up a chair and table anywhere inside or out and they'll bring all the wines to you to taste. Even more surprising to me was that their wines were amazing. I'm not normally a white drinker but walked away with half a dozen of their Semmilon and quite a few reds. Just about everyone in the group bought something and quite a few of us joined their wine club as well. Definitely put Krinklewood on your list of vineyards to visit even if it is only just for the spectacular scenery.

Head into the cellar door and you'll find a bar to do tastings, a cafe and restaurant. But we recommend heading outdoors and having a wine after your tasting as the view is breathtaking! There's also a elevated decking right out on the vines with some amazing art and we think they've done a great job architecturally in setting this place up. The wine tasting is enjoyable, and we undertake this in our group whilst seated outside. The cost for a group of 5 or more is $5 for a tasting fee. The place is super busy the day we are there, so you are recommended to book ahead. In the tasting, we walk through the wines from white to red with the Mountain Ridge semillon, Mountain Ridge Pinot Gris, Mountain Ridge Rose, Mountain Ridge Sparkling Chamborcin, and finish with a Mountain Ridge Tawny Port, perfect to pair with dessert. We personally also love their macadamia liqueur which we tried at a local restaurant. The host let us also try a watermelon liqueur slushee, all the rage at the moment, and seemed to be popular with people at the winery. This was my favourite! It's an amazing place to visit if down in the south coast. We've already recommended this to plenty of people! It's also kid and dog friendly!

Well, I thought I was going to have a glass but I ended up getting a tasting flight because it was so tempting. They offer wine by the glass, bottle, flight or you can do a tasting at the bar. It was a brilliant experience. The staff were really nice - pleasant, knowledgeable on product offerings and really relaxed. I got the 'come to the dark side' flight, which was all reds. I asked her to pour me a little less because I was driving and it comes out around 2 glasses in total. I asked her to pour me half of each and pour a full one of 'the best one.' After a long deliberation (she told me) she poured the shiraz as the full glass. I had always thought I didn't like shiraz. Well I was wrong - now I do! I will always remember that this was the place that taught me. My friend ordered a different flight that had whites and reds, and also a cheese pairing for the flight - they match each cheese to a wine. I tried all of hers and all her cheeses. Really liked the majority even though bubbles and certain types of white aren't as much my jam. Really great place and good value for money. A nice, classy experience without being intimidating or pretentious. I'd love to come back here again - and next time I'd make sure I wasn't driving. IT'S ON!!

Certainly a friendly place to do a wine tasting. It's also quite picturesque. Fields and grape vines slope gently away from the tasting building, down to ponds and trees, and the hills rise dramatically not too far away. On a sunny day it's a very pleasing agricultural view. Their food is good, if nothing special. Sunday lunches usually only offer 2 or 3 choices for each course, but our sliced lamb and battered barramundi were nice enough.

If the restaurant isn't open, which it isn't a few days a week, they still do cheese platters, where you select two cheeses from a pretty good range, and you get a condiment and crackers and olives, gluten free if necessary. They have a variety of local food products for sale in the tasting room. Friendly staff and owner. The wines seemed to be white-heavy, as I've noticed other wineries along the coast are, too. There's plenty of parking. The turnoff from the highway is a bit harrowing, as cars don't seem to care that your turn signal is on. The bathrooms are outside the restaurant, on the far side from the tasting room.

Some people use it for meetings, some to co-work with a like-minded community, some go for race day access, others are there to see and be seen or, y'know, just show off. Guess which category I fell into. You'll never guess. Okay you probably will guess it was to show off, there I said it, are you happy now?
