John came out to see what work was needed, he gave me a quote and as I needed it done Friday through Monday he scheduled it for Friday/Saturday. The workers were pleasant, informative, conscientious and diligent. Work was finished Saturday morning and it looks great. Urban Works is a great company. The owner came out looked at the project, gave me a very reasonable bid and more than fulfilled his promises. Were there small issues? Never did any home improvements that there weren't. They were immediately addressed , john ,the owner, really listened and worked with us to get exactly what we wanted. I have a beautiful extension on my patio with a polycarbonate roof. And poles to hang my hammock. Life is good. I highly recommend UrbanWorks. 6 months later........Unfortunately my new rook leaks horribly. I have contacted John repeatedly. He is always very kind and understanding, BUT my roof still leaks. read more

I hired urban works construction to repair a large section of termite damage under and along the side of my house and some damage in my subflooring in another location. They started with the large section. They were never clear on when they would be out. Days they gave us a heads up they showed up well after or way before the time quoted or didnt show up at all. They showed up other days with no prior notification. In order to repair the side they had to remove my hose spigot and turn off my water. They had to turn on and off the water which (through no fault of theirs) caused a clog to my shower. I had to wait almost a week with no access to a shower and had to fill my sons baby bath from the sink to bathe him. Once the spigot was installed again the quality of spigot was much lower than the one I had just had installed by a professional plumber just months previous. Our water pressure was low after this. We asked that it be looked into and was told they would. All of this was happening while trying to buy and sell a house. The deadline to be out of the house was quickly approaching and the flooring wasnt getting done. I received a call the Saturday before closing that he had to come out in order to finish by the following Monday's deadline. This was an extremely inconvenient time as my spouse had just worked an overnight 16 hour shift and head to go back into work. Because of their poor time management and the limited timeline I agreed. The job was rushed and was poor quality. Replacing the wood floors after the subflooring should not have been the difficult task it was made out to be. On the way out after simply placing new but poorly placed boards he threw back the comment, "well I guess I'll go enjoy what's left of my Saturday." As if I forced him to come out and work at this extremely inconvenient time. He said he would come back Monday to stain the floor. Communication went back and forth regarding what time he would be there and how long it would take to complete the job. Filling the cracks between boards (which he made no mention of doing and can only assume had zero intention of doing), staining (with at least an hour between the two coats required), and adding the floor finish should overall take 5 or more hours depending on how long it would take to actually apply all of the coats. He said it should only "take a couple of minutes to stain" I kept asking for clarification and received none. The time he quoted to finish staining the floor came and went. He showed up 20 minutes late and at this point we had had enough. We fired him and decided to finish the floors ourselves while working full time with an infant to care for as well. He agreed to give us a $200 reimbursement for services not rendered. A few days later a neighbor noticed water in our drainage ditch. During the course of repairs an elbow PVC cracked. The water had been leaking for at least a week since we had noticed our water pressure lower. I had chalked the pressure up to shoddy workmanship and just wanted out of our house but it turned out to be a leak. At this point I called him back because we had asked him to research the low pressure. Over the phone I was assured he HAD looked into it but clearly if he had the leak would have been discovered. The leak wasnt their fault but the lack of follow through was frustrating. I was told over the phone they hadn't been hired to fix the plumbing. But if they couldn't fix the shower plumbing they shouldn't have agreed to do so. They repaired the leak and we moved on. I closed on my house on 5/11 and payment was received by urban construction within the next week. I requested an update on the refund check on 5/16 and was told it slipped his mind. On 5/18 I received a text that they had still forgotten but they intended to send it and I could request updates. On 5/29 and 6/2 I requested updates via text and received no response. On 6/5 I called and left a voicemail and received no response. On 6/14 I text my intention to take the matter further if I didnt receive a check and still received no response. On 6/15 I called multiple times and could tell I was being sent straight to voicemail. I was hoping at this point he would be frustrated enough to pickup and no luck. I sent an e-mail on 6/15 stating my intent to report them to the CCB. I sent a certified letter on 6/15 of my intent to report them to the CCB. On 6/21 I received an email requesting my new address that I had previously provided via text. Finally on 6/24 I received the check in the mail. Save yourself some frustration. Choose a different contractor. read more

They made an appointment, and did the work the same day. Very professional and courteous. AMAZING.

Took John almost 2 yrs to state that he was "finished" with our deck. They did not complete the contracted elements to the project (ie gutters not done). I had to contact the CCB to have him come out and almost finish the project and when I won the CCB appeal, I attempted to serve him with small claims paper, but the address that he has listed with the CCB is not functional. I ended up giving up trying to have him served and just paid another company to finish the job. Examples of damages: The french drain was installed incorrectly and had to be dug out and replaced, piping for the sprinklers was not cap and was running under the concrete, decking screws for the trex where stripped and not covered, chucks of concrete where barried in the yard, construction garbage was left.... too much to list. I wrote a negative review on his FB to attempt to get him to respond and be served, but instead he sent an attorney after me and then his attorney refused to respond to my requests for address for small claims service. Since I have been vocal about this company, I have had others come forward with similar stories. I still have his mailbox on my fence from his crew placing my drawings in it.
