The employees are extra friendly. The man that does the acupuncture, his voice is very soothing. It is a really comfortable environment. I always go to sleep. I had three worries when I first heard of Urbana Acupuncture. My first worry was that due to the group setting, it would be hard to talk about my concerns. My second worry was that the care wouldn't be the same quality as when I had acupuncture at a typical clinic. My third worry was that I would be annoyed or distracted by other clients. My first worry was completely alleviated. Jim, the acupuncturist, will talk with you either at a desk to the side of the waiting room, or over the phone by appointment if you wish to have a lengthy discussion. For minor updates that you want to share when you come in, you can write these down and share with him that way. He is very attentive to any concerns you wish to discuss. My second worry also turned out to be unnecessary. The treatment I received was on par with what I've received elsewhere. Truly excellent results. I think a big part of it is that because it is less expensive, you can afford to go more often and don't have to delay a visit because of money. Also, they're open five days a week and make it very easy to schedule. Lastly, I wasn't annoyed or distracted by anyone. The treatment room is huge, and the chairs are spaced out in a way that you don't have anyone "in your space" so to speak. There are plants, dividers, etc. that make it easy to concentrate on yourself and relax. People who come in are very respectful of each other and the treatment center is very quiet. In summary: Caring people who are excellent at what they do. If you're a student or have a small budget, they make it possible for you to get excellent and helpful treatment. I love Urbana Acupuncture and have been coming here regularly for almost a year now. I started because I have chronic pain that had been unaided by conventional methods. The only thing that had been even vaguely helpful was massage, and the massage therapist recommended acupuncture. I've had a severe needle phobia my entire life, and therefore avoided acupuncture for years. But when the pain became unbearable, I resigned and came to Urbana Acupuncture. I'm so glad I did. I first came 3-5 times a week to jump start the healing process. When there was no progress after 15 sessions, Jim told me that if acupuncture could help, there would almost always be progress within 15-20 sessions, so if there was no pain relief within the next few, there was no point in continuing. I appreciated his honesty. Luckily, I started having relief very soon after, and continued acupuncture with even more progress and pain relief. It's been months and I still go to keep the pain low. I have also found it very helpful for managing stress, anxiety, and other illnesses and pains that come with daily life. I have seen both Jim and Sean regularly, and have found them both to be very kind, gentle, and knowledgeable. The front desk staff and volunteers are always friendly and helpful and make the experience even more pleasant. When Sean was stumped about my wrist problems, he started giving me other suggestions and references for other solutions I could try, including a topical balm from an out of state acupuncturist that proved to be extremely helpful for my pain. This above-and-beyond care and commitment was wonderful and emphasized that they actually care about their clients. I was originally very concerned about the group setting, but I have actually found it quite nice. There is enough space between the chairs and it is easy to have a whispered discussion with Jim or Sean to give them updates or express concerns at the beginning of your session. The room is dark enough that it feels private and people are always very courteous and quiet as they come and go. I can't recommend this place enough. I am a huge fan of this place. I am terrified of needles, so when someone suggested this place to help with stress and other related issues, I was skeptical. But from the minute I got there, everything was designed to make me feel at ease. Both Sean and Jim are caring, trained professionals who always check on you and ask how you are. The space is dimly lit, with calming sounds of water, comfy reclining chairs and blankets. And they'll come wake you up whenever you need to go. The price is also great for students.
