Mike took my money, and promised me that he would have my railing in in 3 weeks. When time came for installation his phone was off for a week. Then when he came to install my railing he was stumbling drunk reeked of fireball. The way he talked to his employees was very unpleasant. I would never work for this guy. read more

We hired Urbana Iron-Works 2/28/23 and the project started 4/6/23. I contacted Mike, the President, on 4/7/23 to discuss our dissatisfaction with the quality of the work. The railings and posts installed were not level or plumb, there was quick cement spilled on our concrete, a hole mis drilled, the welds had porosity, and the welds had warping. Mike agreed to remove the railing and start from scratch. On 5/10/23 the day for scheduled re-install I reached out to Mike to ask where they were. He responded that he forgot that they were at another project, and could we reschedule to Friday. On Friday May 12 he e-mailed me stating that the rails didn't look good and they were starting from scratch again. I replied with "That is very disappointing to hear. We have a few questions: will the stubs be drilled out today? Why was this not addressed before the morning of install." He told us because the rails were wrapped and he didn't realize until going to load them on the truck. On May 12 they came back to drill out the railing stubs, and when they were here they spilled a red product on our concrete. On 5/20 I asked to terminate our contract for his breach of contract (failure to deliver quality product, not adhering to timeframe, and misrepresentation). He said if we didn't let him finish he would sue us. I then contacted a lawyer myself. On 5/21 I replied to Mike that we, in good faith, would give him one more opportunity to move the project forward. If there was any issues with the new rails then this would end our project and we expected our deposit back. He agreed and on Monday May 21st my husband drove to their shop to inspect the construction of the rails. Unfortunately, the rails had warping and were not straight/level. I contacted Mike the same day to let him know that per our agreement this ends the project and we expect our deposit back with proof of refund. He reneged and said he never agreed to that. He then again threatened to sue us. We have tried to give him multiple chances to correct this, but now are solely left with holes and damage to our property. We ended up filing a complaint with our credit card company and MHIC. After the complaints were filed Mike did ultimately refund us our deposit and give us a check for $500 for damaging our patio. We were happy to end ties with Urbana Iron Works and I encourage other customers to find a different company. We ended up using another company to fix these issues and the quality and service were SO much better. read more

We had Mike and team make us a custom retainer to hold back earth and rock from around our lower than grade basement HVAC unit outside. He was fast, courteous, and his guys doing the install went over and above in putting back all the earth and landscape rock that we had dug away.
