Some friends of mine brought me to Et Voila French Bistro for a birthday dinner. I have not been…read morehere since 2016 when they first opened. For my dinner, I had the traditional Boeuf bourguignon with pappardelle pasta. My friends ordered the Steak au Poivre et Frites and Coq au Vin. We also had a great bottle of wine called Lacoste-Borie 2018. The last time I had boeuf bourguigon was about 20 years ago. a rendition of Anthony Bourdain's recipe, but without the pappardelle pasta. Et Voila's version with the pappardelle was outstanding. The freshly made pasta, not only added great texture, but also flavor. It prepared just right, too. The Cabernet sauce was excellent and offered a great depth of flavors. The dish also came with tender carrots, sweet pearl onions, and white mushrooms. All of them were perfect. The beef was rendered down beautifully and had great color and was very tender to the touch. The beef offered exceptional preparation and was an absolute pleasure to eat with the Cabernet sauce. Well done chef. I was treated to a house soufflé which was excellent. It hit all the notes: light, soft, and airy, but packed with flavor. The sauce that came along with it was very good. My friends, who are regulars here, were very pleased with their dishes as well. I have to say, both of their dishes looked amazing. The hospitality at this French Bistro is first rate. All the employees, including the owner, were very amiable and welcoming. They aim to provide an excellent dining experience and that's what they do. This place is perfect for date night, special occasions, or just to simply enjoy a delicious quiet meal.

It was also my husband's birthday so I really wanted it to be special! We got seated as soon as we arrived in a booth! We immediately were greeted by Nancy who by the way was amazing at that time! The food were amazing and delicious we started with Soup à l'oignon which was great then the raviolis aux champignons which was also amazing but we wished that it would be much more warmer... We then followed by steak frites aux poivre, we asked it medium rare not cut and sauce on the side and it was perfect it comes with brocolis and green beans in the side with french fries and ask for ketchup and aïoli which was yummy as well! We wanted to make it a french dinner so we also ordered a chessboard after the main course! We were so glad that we ordered one entrée as we could have not made it to the dessert if we were to do the cheeseboard and dessert as well! After the cheeseboard we ordered the profiteroles for dessert and a Cappuccino! The dinner birthday was a success I do recommend it for people that are looking for an authentic french restaurant! Cons were the ambiance it was a little bit loud and also they weren't giving any complimentary birthday dessert also, the bread at the beginning were delicious but if you want a refill they will charge you for it. We brought a bottle of red wine which was free corkage since we also ordered a bottle of white from their menu. But the corkage fee would be $45! Overall we had a wonderful time! And I highly recommend it for the food!

Ordering promptly at 5pm, our dinner arrived promptly and hot. I wanted to make sure we tried it all, so without further ado: The Poached Pear salad was delightfully refreshing, with the pistachio pesto adding so much pizazz. We also ordered the cheese plate because Humboldt Fog was on the menu, a fast favorite. Steak Frites were cooked to perfect medium rare, and the Duroc Pork Chop literally melted in our mouths, with the red pepper really standing out on the dish. Even the market veggies were perfectly seasoned and duck fat truffle fries were loved by Dad. After a life changing event, this meal was like a welcome hug home for our family and it really set us up for a nice evening. For being takeout, it was def 5-stars and I see why this is a beloved gem in the heart of North Park.

The space itself is larger than expected with plenty of seating. I chose to sit at the bar, and Ashley, the bartender, was absolutely phenomenal. She was friendly, gave great recommendations, and fun to chat with. I ordered: * Burger Parisienne: this was a massive burger. I ended up taking about a quarter of it home. It was cooked perfectly, but what really made it unique was the Bordelaise sauce poured over the top. * Pommes Frites: some of the best fries I've had - thin cut and extremely crispy. * French Onion Soup: I was told the menu was recently updated and it no longer comes with the pastry top. However, it was still very enjoyable. One thing to note is that although it says on Yelp that dogs are allowed, it's actually service dogs only. Overall, the service was excellent, the food came out quickly (under ten minutes after ordering), and the happy hour is a great deal.

We shared the croquettes & baguette with shaved ham. Both were delicious and were a great start to our meal. We didn't have any room for dessert so we didn't try anything. Service was warm, friendly and helpful.

When I eat that, I prefer to takeoff the hard layers and then savor the yummy middle separately. It's a whole experience! Well, I originally came for the croissant. Unfortunately, the actual wedding cake was a major disappointment. We ordered a classic/simple two-tier cake, but when it was picked up, it arrived disassembled with plastic separating the tiers which clearly showed when it was assembled, making it appear cheap. It didn't feel like the polished presentation we expected for a wedding cake. The venue staff had to place the top tier themselves, and because it wasn't properly secured, it nearly fell off during our cake cutting in front of our guests. We were under the impression that wedding cakes were a standard part of their business, but based on our experience, I wouldn't recommend them for weddings or other special occasions when a polished product is expected. I truly wish our experience had matched how great the tasting was. I haven't gone to this bakery for anything else so based on my experience with this cake I'm giving it 3 stars.

Let's be honest here, we live in a city that is saturated with beer festivals. It is almost…read morecomical the number of so-called beer festivals I see advertised around town. When clubs in the Gaslamp started hosting beer festivals, that is when I knew it was all going downhill... All of that being said, I had pretty much given up on attending beer festivals. That is, until I saw the notice for the Stone Belgian Fest on the company's website. Only $50 for 15 generous pours of some extremely rare Belgian style beers - yes please! Because it was the first year of the festival, they limited the number of attendees. This meant that the lines were short, and you could almost always find a spot to sit - a rare treat for a festival in San Diego. The festival was held outside, in the garden area, which was a lovely ambiance for enjoying some of Belgium's best. I can't speak to the line-up for next year's festival, but if it is anything like this year's, I highly recommend you buy a ticket.

I have less exposure to Belgian style beers and that is where this festival really filled a void in my beer knowledge. They featured almost every style of Belgian beer including: Dubbels, Tripels, Quadruples, Gueuezes, Lambics, Flanders, etc. The event cost $50 and you received 15 tasters ranging from 2-3 oz pours depending on rarity. When you add it all up, it is the only affordable way to try some of these super rare beers, otherwise you would be trying to hunt down some of these bottles that sell for $60+ here in the States. Highlights for me were the Vigneronne by Cantillon, Hommage by 3 Fonteinen and really anything from Cascade brewery. Lines were manageable and the vibe was laid back, which allowed for everyone to focus on the beer instead of jumping into the next line as soon as you receive your pour. Food was not included, but they offered limited food options through the restaurant. I skipped it as it looked a bit pricey for what you got.
