Lion and I went to check it out recently on a clear day. I am a lover of the oddball and kitschy. This meets the bill. It's made of granite, stretches down a narrow alleyway. It was pretty cool, really looks like a zipper. Simple but effective. Definitely worth a stop when visiting Barre.

I found this on the map that way when passing through Barre, so we stopped to check it out. The surprise of seeing what it is when we got to it, and sharing the experience with other visitors to town was all well worth it. Plus, we parked the car and got to some local spots, and visited the very nice library. It was a good little visit to town. So, if you're in the vicinity of Barre, definitely don't miss this. I was thinking maybe not worth it to drive more than an hour out of your way... but then again, if it's worth it to you, why not?

Summertime is pretty in The Green Mountain State (referring to the mountains after which it got its name from the first French settlers in the early 1600s, called the area's mountains the "Verd Mont") Ben & Jerry's Factory Tour & Ice Cream Shop: Unfortunately, since we arrived so late in the afternoon (one hour to closing) the Factory Tour was sold out. The tour usually sells out quickly. I joined the queue to purchase ice cream. We shared a cup of the Chocolate Fudge Brownie. Oh yes, lots of fudgy chunks of brownie goodness mixed into dark and rich chocolate ice cream. Please don't send this to the Flavor Graveyard soon... Ben & Jerry's Flavor Graveyard: We went to the The Flavor Graveyard which rested on a hill. Gone, But Not Forgotten. The Flavor Graveyard is a place where Ben & Jerry's honors discontinued flavors with granite headstones and epitaphs. Whaaat? No more Aloha Macadamia? [2001-2002] Who doesn't love their rich milk chocolate cashew Brazil-nut butter ice cream with macadamia nuts covered in white & dark fudge & milk chocolatey swirl?? I mourn their chunks and swirls :( World's Tallest Filing Cabinet: It was at one point one of 11 "Yelp's Most Outrageous Attractions." We had VT on our itinerary so we decided to look for it and turns out it wasn't too far from Ben & Jerry's Factory (27 miles). We found the stacked filing cabinets... it is said to be 38 drawers tall. The stack is made of real cabinets and sits in the parking lot at 208 Flynn Avenue in the Southwest edge of town. I think it's cool that VT had some neat stuff to see but I wouldn't go out of my way to see this. It was some random, cool roadside attraction to see. We made a pitstop at a cookie place (Vermont Cookie Love) and purchased some cookies for the road. We love the cookies... soft and not too sweet. Loved the names they chose for their cookies. They all had something to do with "love." Not sure when we'll be back in The Green Mountain State but thanks to the Great State of Vermont... and for Ben & Jerry's! Review #3789

The most populous city or town in Vermont is the City of Burlington, with 44,500 people. The capital is Montpelier with approximately 8,000. It is the seventh coldest state in the country. The Green Mountains goes through Vermont, from north to south. The mountains located there are Mount Mansfield, Killington, Camel's Hump, and Mount Abraham. These locations are known for their winter sports. There are many trails; a popular one is the Appalachian Trail, which also runs through VT. This state is also known for its maple syrup, cheddar cheese, and it's where Ben &, Jerry's was created. My family and I enjoyed our visit there. We explored the area, shopped, played, and dined. The vista was beautiful with rolling hills and mountains. It's very rural and peaceful. There's plenty more to see but we enjoyed our visit there recently.

January of 2024 Paul helped us through many phone calls and email communications to find us a full sized cello for my older kid based on our budget and tone preferences. The cello travelled from Vermont to California safely and it sounded exactly what we were hoping to get. My older kid enjoyed it still very much, and it'll be his "forever cello" for sure. (Model is Johann Liebman) Now my younger kid is gradually growing out of his 3/4 violin and is needing a full sized one. I first tried Reverb and had to send back the instrument due to a crack that wasn't photographed clearly. Eventually I thought to reach out to Paul again for help. Paul remembered us and I am very pleased with his kindness and knowledge. He helped answer my many questions and concerns about finding the right "forever violin"; I'm very excited and looking to receive it. (A Laberte violin) Paul does not send sound samples as he's a musician and only believes in "real sound" not transmitted digitally. So you have to trust his judgement. I'll update my review again once we received the violin. I thought to leave a review here first as our cello purchase experience was long overdue and they deserved a 5-star rating for that! ------------------------ Update 2/2/2026 We received the French violin Paul handpicked for us (I gave him a few sound samples for comparisons and ranked my likings. He looked through his inventory and found a violin that is the closest to my favorite sound sample). The violin brand is Marc Laberte. When the violin arrived, due to shipping process or temperature fluctuations, two strings got loose and perhaps the postal service truck's movements also loosened old debris from inside the century-old instruments. After discussions on the phone and over a Zoom meeting, simple remedies I performed at home resolved everything! We absolute LOVE the Laberte. It sounds amazing and the price is affordable. Paul also was very kind and educated us on how to look for a suitable full size bow; he also researched for us a reputable violin shop that is within two hours of drive from us. Thank you for your time and patience with us. We shall cherish this new violin forever. I'm writing these reviews because Paul Perley Cellos should be known to more string musicians in the US. Paul is the most genuine and honest luthier I've ever spoken with. He's a cellist and luthier, his wife is a professional cellist. If you reach out to them, they would save you lots of time from research and you will be in good hands. I'm glad I trusted them and I'd highly recommend this shop to everyone who's looking to purchase string instruments.

I've…read moreextensively researched on finding the perfect one, and the owners Paul and Melissa have been very helpful in answering all my novice questions. In the end I decided on a special handmade one. The store has many options, from beginners to professionals, and everything in between. They also allow you test it out before you purchase. The store also carries other string instruments, the violin, viola, and basses as well. What gave me the assurance of purchasing from here, even though the store is on the other side of the U.S is the knowledge of the owners, whom play the cello professionally. Another selling point was that Paul has been in business for over 30 years, so I know the cello was in good hands. I almost made the mistake of purchasing one on Ebay, and so glad I didn't. They also do restorations, repairs and adjustment services. If you have a kid needing a new instrument, or an adult beginner who is hesitant about starting something new, just go for it. Send them an email or give them a call and they will help you choose your perfect instrument. I'LL BE BACH for sure:)
