Poorly lit establishment extremely dirty and not taken care of. Closed for an hour from 11am-12pm with the excuse she has to take lunch and they are all going to lunch at the same time. Unprofessional and rude demeanor. All I needed was some stamps and I waited 90 minutes for their return only to wait another 20 minutes in line as people in line complained this is not the first time they've done something of this nature. I went to the Fairmount Post Office yesterday morning (Sat) to mail a package to Germany. While standing in line, I was amazed to see the woman behind the counter having a full conversation with an ear bud at the same time she handled customer packages. When I got to the counter, she told me they were out of the white custom slips so I couldn't mail my package. When I questioned how that could be possible at a post office, she rudely told me I needed to go somewhere else. Amazingly, another customer had an extra custom slip in their backpack so I was able to fill it out and get back in line. By the time I got to the counter again, there was a shift change and another, more friendly, person was behind the counter. However, when she saw the customs slip, she said she didn't know how to do it and I'd have to come back on Monday. How could a postal employee not know how to ship a package internationally? I'm dumbfounded by how bad this neighborhood post office is. Needless to say, my package did not get mailed. read more

This place needs new staff it needs to be shut down totally.... Whether it's the not opening in time EVERY Saturday, to only one person working, or the package not being scanned in so missing the deadline this location is absolutely terrible. As nice as the staff can be when they're not on their phone, they're on their phone the entire day. I've had FIVE recent packages for next or 2 day mail that didn't get processed making them late for clients (and me paying extra money for nothing) I'm not one for ppl losing their jobs, but a post office should not have 2 stars.... I went to the Fairmount Avenue post office at 7.55am today, waited for it to open, and was first in line. I put a 9x12 thick envelope thru the glass cage and the postal worker, who was on the phone the entire time I was there, told me it could not be sent because the address did not come up as valid on her screen. I should have told her to re-check it but she was so engrossed in her phone conversation that I took her word for it. Then, instead of placing my envelope back in the cage for me to retrieve, she jammed it thru the bottom of the glass in front of me. I tried to stop her but it was too late. Thankfully, nothing got damaged. I will never go to that post office again. They need to get new workers there who actually take pride in in their job. How this woman got hired is beyond me. As a follow-up, the next day in Atlantic City I took the same package with the same address to the post office in the Wellington Avenue shopping center and the female post office attendant had no problem putting postage on it and mailing my package. The Fairmount Avenue post office in Philly needs to clean house and hire people who have some pride in their job and don't spend their time on the phone with personal calls. My review is not for all postal workers, but for the woman working on Saturday, Feb 11, 2023 at the Fairmount office. When I came in at 8:15 there were no customers nor were there any workers behind the glass. I put my package inside the glass and waited for a few moments before I knocked on the window. I then knocked again. With 30 seconds to a minute between each I kept knocking, but there was no response. One man came in to deposit his mail and another customer came in to send a package. She had to fill out forms. I kept trying knocking. I then knocked on the door where they give you big packages. I really thought someone must be far in the back and so I slowly increased the loudness with which I was knocking until finally I banged intentionally loudly on the door. Mind you, this is a good 10 minutes I've been waiting. I have knocked at least 12-15 times now. Then I hear someone yelling are you're crazy knocking and a woman comes out yelling, she will not let me explain that I had been waiting for nearly 10 minutes. She says she has to go to the bathroom. Now did she leave a note that said, I will be back in a few minutes? No. She continues yelling and won't let me talk and then tells me that she will not wait on me. Updated, Feb 7th, 2025: It's almost comical, but the exact same thing happened today. I waited for 10 minutes -- and I know it was 10 minutes because I was watching my watch. First, I knocked on the glass several times. Then I knocked on the door, once, twice. Finally, I kicked the door, again thinking, maybe no one can hear us? Again, she came out yelling, who kicked on the door. Then she refused to serve me. The first time I filed a complaint with the USPS, but I ended up not following up with it thinking, oh, maybe she had a bad day and I don't want to get this person fired (I know that may seem comical). But you can bet I'm going to go through with it this time. read more

ZERO stars. Waited in line for 15 mins. Witnessed rude behavior from the female window clerk. My turn: provided screenshot which clearly instructed me to pick the package up at 1939 Fairmont Ave. 19130. She wouldn't even look- said that my ZIP Code which is 19130 has to pick up on 19th and Poplar. I already know that and though I don't understand it, that's why I went to 1939 Fairmount She wouldn't allow me to say one word speaking over me very loud loudly as if making an example to the rest of the people also waiting- just kept repeating the address of the Poplar Street location over and over like a broken record. I tried to explain that my own post person knew nothing about this except that maybe someone delivered it to a PO Box at Fairmount- they were also completely out of stamps, weren't doing international mailings, no other mailing services were available except for priority. All of this was just screamed from behind her window. This place is useless. read more

This is one of the worst USPS locations I've ever been to, if not the worst. They are incredibly slow. Typically only have one employee. Their servers are frequently down and they're not accepting packages, despite being open. They have refused to mail packages on multiple occasions, despite having a pre purchased label. I recommend using literally any other service than this USPS. read more

For several years this post office has given new meaning to 'inept' with the mail carrier not taking a letter for mailing (and obviously the carrier was here because mail was in my mailbox same days), finding other tenants mail and unknown people's mail in our boxes while ours was dumped on the floor. I was mailed a piece of mail that required my signature. Assuming because this was a "special" delivery it would bypass insanity, I was so wrong. On delivery day I tracked it and was told delivery would still be handled by the usual carrier. I immediately put a note on the front door for usps to ring my doorbell for any mail requiring a signature. No brainer, right?! Later that day there was a "sorry we missed you" form in my mailbox. So, this carrier took the time to fill that out and leave it but did not ring the doorbell so as to deliver it to me. read more

This is quite literally the worst post office in the country. The staff does not care in the slightest about the patrons. There's only one person working ever and she moves SO slow. The hours are not accurate. The services and supplies are limited. The other patrons are even a problem because everyone is annoyed from standing in line for over a half hour. I've been here twice and both were just terrible. The first time very busy long line, nothing you can do really. Second time I was grateful that the line wasn't long but the agent next to agent 21 had a way of ruining it for me. While I was waiting for my clerk, she started screaming from the other side and telling me to wait til they call my name. I said I'm not harming anyone I'm just standing here. She continued yelling and came outside of her glass, and continued. I later said I have nothing to do with her and continued waiting for my agent. She then kept talking to other customers about me saying "with that nasty attitude she will hope her package gets to where it's going, whatever it is" the customers sympathized with her oh it just be so hard to be working here. That is correct, it must be hard and she shouldn't take it out on customers. She then refused to give me her employee id when I finally said I will submit a complaint which I did. She also helped people after me and was super nice to them. Lady, whoever you are, who do you think you are. It's extremely hard for me to get to the post office. I had to walk 30 minutes to get to that destination and just to be yelled at for standing? What? You gotta be kidding me. I hope the authorities look into this. read more

I have been going to this Post Office, 19130, Fairmount Ave., for abt. 10 years now. Recently the 3 clerks working there - Rhonda, April and Maria - have been moved around to other places and I want to write this review because I really miss the familiarity, their quick answers to any question, their friendliness... it has been a pleasure to go there twice a week. I will never forget when once I was short a few Dollars for important mail, too close to 5, and one of them pitched in the missing amount to get it out and save my day. I wish I could give a zero star review. This is for the shift supervisor that's there, a total c. U. N. T. Refused to answer my questions only just laughed at me, sent me away then I had to figure out my package myself. Meantime she's in a yelling match with another lady and refused to help her as well, walking away. While I'm in line again, hoping I don't have to deal with her she yells at me to come back, only to refuse to answer my question again and laugh at me. I got fed up with her and had to leave. First off, I hate bulletproof glass. It makes me panicky, even though nothing is likely to happen to me at the post office. Every time I have to send a package I feel like a criminal. It makes communicating with the person on the other side difficult as well. Also, I hate that they don't hold packages here so I have to go up to the even crappier office on 19th to get deliveries. And finally, I hate not getting my mail. This issue probably stems more from Philly's postal distribution center than my local office. I have had multiple debit cards and birthday cards never make it to my mailbox. I have had many, many checks lost, stolen or destroyed. It is to the point where I ask people to hold onto items until I see them next because they will probably never get to me if sent through the mail. So rude! I've been to this location twice and really want to love it as I live around the corner. But both times I've visited, I've been treated like I'm a total idiot. It doesn't help that you can barely hear the employee through the bullet proof glass (or discern when they are mumbling something to you or their coworker). Update: Since my first encounter, I have to say that the ladies who work here are extremely professional and for the most part, everyone is efficient. Outside of my initial encounter, things have been smooth sailing. Glad this is my neighborhood post office! --------------------------------- Recently moved near here so was excited to have a post office that wasn't directly in the city. While there was no wait on a Friday at 2PM (yay for Work From Home Fridays), the attendant was horrendous. A gentleman was thick rimmed black glasses was serving the customers and he was completely rude in a lackadaisical, glazed sort of way. He clearly did not want to be there and simply wanted to do the easiest of tasks (e.g. put your stuff in the box and you can go). I had prepaid items and needed a receipt but it seemed to be the most tasking thing to actually scan the items rather than leave them for someone else to do next week I'm sure. He also told a customer in front of me that there was no tracking for envelopes (a lie). The customer was clearly in the know as he asked where the confirmation envelopes were ... upon which he was directed to them. The post office at 1500 JFK may be swamped and the line may go out the door, but the two ladies who serve the customers there can teach this lazy employee a thing or three. If it's fast service you're after, go to UPS or Fedex and pay for it. Government municipalities aren't exactly heralded for their quickness and efficiency. I went at 12:30 on a weekday and the line was eight people deep, with two tellers. However one didn't count since she was embroiled in some postal office worker gossip about a slutty mailman or something. I'm not sure why there have been so many negative reviews of this location. I generally visit this post office once or twice a week and the only issues I've ever encountered weren't created by the workers, but by impatient customers. For the most part, all of the employees are helpful and deliver a pretty standard amount of respect to the customers. I don't expect post office workers to kiss my ass - I'm there to ship my package and leave. I feel like it's kind of random to review a post office, but post offices generally get a bad rap for having slow, rude workers, so I had to take some time to shout out a lady at this one. I came in on a Wednesday afternoon to mail a bunch of thank you cards and two packages. It was fairly empty. I needed to wrap my packages and they didn't sell brown wrapping paper. The woman working told me I could buy some at the hardware store next door and offered to watch my packages while I went to get the paper. When I got back, I started wrapping the package and she taps on the window and holds up a pair of scissors for me to use, something I hadn't even realized I forgot! Then she saw me double-wrapping my package because my paper was kind of thin and she came from behind the desk and expertly wrapped the package in tape for me so that I could save my paper. She was just so helpful and so nice! During the time I was there a couple of other people came in with various requests and she was so helpful and so kind to all of them and the customers even expressed extra thanks and appreciation. She just seems like one of those people who just has a kind soul and likes to help people and those people should be recognized. I like the fact that it is close to me, it opens at 8 a.m., and although it does get crowded, it is because it is in the heart of the section of Fairmount, Brewerytown, Girard and a host of other businesses. I don't consider the employees rude, I consider the customers rude, wanting things their way! It's true that parking is a problem but overall, I love this post office. read more

This Post Office is so poor that the other POs in town know it by reputation. Lines frequently build up, and someone who looks like a supervisor/postmaster wanders through the area, sees the lines, and returns to the office. Never have I seen an additional window opened, and I have even seen one closed with heavy lines for a break or lunch, The employees are not surly but they seem indifferent, glazed, as though they are on Valium or tuinol. I went to another, much more efficient office on tax day. I mentioned that I was avoiding my local PO and when I told them it was Fairmount, they grinned and said "That's where they send all the people who don't have a clue." read more

Integrity means a lot when dealing with businesses. I recently had an experience at this location that showed me that an employee had exactly that. A few weeks ago I went to post office and got money order for my mortgage payment and then in a rush left the post office and left the money order for almost $800.00 on the table (09/29/2018). I was frantic when I got home and realized the money order was missing. For 2 weeks I looked for it. Then yesterday I went back to this post office and they, a clerk named Margo had found the money order and placed it in a safe place. She held onto the money order for 2 weeks and yesterday (10/13/18) when I reported the missing money order, she went to the safe place and got it for me. She remembered me from 2 weeks ago. Arrived early on a Friday morning around 8:30am. No line and the postal employee kindly helped pick out a postage free box (and made it work as she went out of her way to tape and deal the package). Parking spot directly out front. Not bad, just plan to arrive early or at off hours, like most post offices. read more
