Alan had…read moregone to the Camden post office and picked up a couple of large Priority Mail boxes this morning, but they were too small for our purposes so we were going to return them when we came to mail our box. We put our new sweatshirts and t-shirts in, nestled the dish among them, put in more clothing and some chargers off to the side and topped off the whole thing w/ our accumulated paper bags, which we can use for recycling newspapers at home. I addressed it, we sealed it and, since we had time, drove to the Camden post office on the assumption that it will be busier tomorrow (Saturday), when it's open only from 9am-noon. We parked in front. Alan carried the box to be mailed while I carried the two boxes to be returned. He directed me to where they were stored and went right to a clerk who was available to help him. After I put the boxes away I joined him at the counter. We had it marked fragile and chose the slowest, cheapest rate since we're in no hurry. It was almost 15 pounds and came to $46 and change. That's about what we were charged for sending the ceramic fish from the gallery in Woods Hole. It would have been more economical if we had taken it ourselves and just put it in one of the large Priority Mail boxes, as well as it had been wrapped. No matter. Maybe we'll remember next time. The clerk who helped us was very personable and again we were in and out quickly.

Rock on Wood Located…read morealong Penobscot Bay in the Gulf of Maine, Rockland is a small city of ±7k people and a popular tourist destination during the summer season. Once famous for building ships, Rockland is now known for being the location of the Maine Lobster Festival (first week of August), but that's just one of many things to see and do here. *±20min from Owls Head State Park, which has a cool lighthouse there. *Lots of restaurants and places to eat *Maine Lighthouse Museum *Very old city ca. 1848 (by US standards anyways) so beware the streets weren't really designed for cars. And parking can be a PiTa, but you'll survive. *Ferry service *Farnsworth Art Museum *Very cute lil' Downtown area. You just wanna pinch it's widdle cheeks. Conclusion: Cool Coastal town to reconnoiter while traveling thru Maine.

This lighthouse was first constructed in 1827 and again rebuilt in 1835 due to poor construction of the first tower. The lighthouse became fully automated in 1934.

This lighthouse felt extremely remote to me because we'd been driving from Camden and visited two…read moreothers prior to this. This one was about 30 minutes one way off the main road and was isolated from much else. There is a cute inn very nearby and a small town with an ice cream shop and a few stores and art galleries. It's charming and if you are staying anywhere nearby, this is a great spot to come and visit during the day, go through the museum and enjoy the grounds. We visited later after it was closed at 5pm so, parking was free, and we were free to roam around on the rocks and enjoy the views. This lighthouse by far had some of the best rock and views. Very pretty and you can get up close and personal with the lighthouse here.

It was given that we had to visit at least one lighthouse in Maine, and what better way to do that…read morethan by visiting the most visited one in the state?? We were staying nearby in the area, so it was an easy drive here. This park is small, but has such a rich history. The guys working at the park were super friendly, and one gave us some fun facts about the lighthouse before heading up to the top! Speaking of, going up to the top is really neat. It's a tad bit scary and has a steep, spiral staircase, but has some great views once you get up there. There's also a little room with more on the history. Outside, you can climb around on the rocks to have a great viewing spot of the ocean. You need to come visit this place if you are nearby!

The introductory video is informative, and the museum hosts a number of artifacts excavated from the site. The ruins themselves are not much to look at, but enough information is provided to explain the history of the site to answer many questions that a visitor may have. Overall, even though it is a bit out of the way, I would recommend a stop at this historic site if you have time.
