I was really excited to go and check this place out the other day.... BUT! I was disappointed about couple of things that happened after I came back from the store. They actually had Diet Dr.Pepper and Diet cherry coke so even tho it costed me $19-20 For a box of 12 can I gladly went for it. As soon as I came home I chilled-up the Diet Dr.Pepper and tried it.... Hmmmm it didn't tasted right so I naturally checked for the exp. date and it was supposed to expire on that day!!! The same day I bought the drinks! How do you expect me to drink all 12 cans in one day.... If it's expiration date was coming up soon they should've put it up on sale before it expires! AND I bought a traveller size coffee mate that was on sale for $3, and when I came home and removed the $3 sticker on the package I realized that they've written $1 on the product initially!! I feel like I was ripped off =_= For these reasons it's very likely I wouldn't be going back to the store in the future.... And I warn other fellow shoppers to look out! read more

I love this place. Sorry, let me be clear - I love what this place stocks. It's an invaluable part of my eating regime - so many basics I can't get anywhere else, like simple black beans, cajun spices etc. Much like the name sounds, they are a little independent grocery store full of products imported from America. Also, the chipotle peppers in adobo are cheaper here than most other places in town, and available in several brands. The staff are kinda terrible, the stockboys are loud and seem to forget there's a store full of customers as theyre shouting to each other as if theyre alone, and the young girls at the counter have been kinda rude the last 6 times in a row without fail, but you take what you can get sometimes. read more

This place was more nostalgic for me than anything and instantly brought some pieces of home to Melbourne. One section filled with KoolAid Jammers was like my childhood lunches all found on a rectangle shelf space. Why I really came here was for Thanksgiving. No, I couldn't seem to find some holiday essentials, like pureed pumpkin, cornbread mix, french fried onions, or whatever else I thought is traditionally served at my family table. I came here and got excited.They had a whole aisle full of bbq sauces, hot sauces and meat rubs. A section for Mexican food, and good salsas! You can find southern classics here: biscuit and gravy mix, cornbread, grits, all that was missing was Jimmy Dean products. The baked goods range had plenty to choose from Betty Crocker, I even found Tres Leches mix! There's equally. so many frostings to choose from! I spotted Graham cracker crust, Graham crackers and big fluffy marshmallows. There was a assortment of Pop Tarts, and even a devoted Hostess section. USA Foods had a lot of the brands I recognize from home. I loved every bit of it. With everything, you gotta know your prices. And for some things, I couldn't justify paying an exorbitant amount for. But I found that most of their products weren't that badly priced, comparable to your Woolies/Safe Way or Coles. You can order online, which might be more convenient, and (in reading previous reviews) everything online has it's expiration date. It's small, but the range they had was surprising. Now, I think it's the only shop like it in Australia, as they do ship nation-wide. But don't quote me on that. read more

I've been shopping at the USA Foods Moorabbin location for 8+ years and drive 80 k's round trip to purchase a few choice items from them. Since my drive is so far, I always check the stock levels before making the trip. The only time I can get to their store is on weekends as I work during the weekdays and cannot make it before they close at 5pm. This past Saturday 10/12/22, I checked stock levels on Bush's beans and the level was listed as HIGH STOCK. I drove 40 k's to the store and to my surprise the area normally occupied by the product was empty. I spoke to one of the kids running around the store and they said they had plenty in the storeroom and he actually pointed to where they were stacked up. The storeroom is clearly in view of the main shopping area. I said, "great then you can get some and restock so I can get what I drove so far to purchase" The kid then tells me he cannot restock because no manager is on duty! On a Saturday in retail there is no manager on site and the store is being operated by kids who have no clue about how to achieve customer satisfaction! He tells me the best way to ensure I got the product I wanted would be to go home and order online! NOT the response I was looking for. I decided to call back on Sunday 11/12/22 to see if a manager was on duty. I spoke to a so-called manager named Maddie who told me she had heard about me, and her staff told her I was rude. She then tells me she cannot and will not restock just to satisfy one customer because then ALL CUSTOMERS would expect the same level of service! In this case there was NO LEVEL OF CUSTOMER SERVICE! I now truly understand why all the other reviews I have read are negative. Maddie the so-called manager had a chance to rectify the situation and make me a happy customer but all she did was further infuriate me! Maddie is NOT a good manager and did not even try to find a positive solution! You lot have lost another longtime customer because of your atrocious customer service! read more

I'm a frequent (once a month) shopper here because I lived in Boston for 16 months and have a fiancé who is a Boston native, currently living in Melbourne. I also only live a 5 or so minute drive away. I first discovered this place back in around 2002 when they had a small milk bar-style shop right near Bentleigh station. The range has been expanded slightly since their move to the new 'grocery-style' shop down the street. However, their range can still be quite iffy - don't count on them having a regular stock of your favourite items (I love Milanos but only fluked a 3-cookie snack pack once; fiancé loves 'regular' Mountain Dew - Australian MD doesn't have caffeine and therefore apparently tastes inferior - which they don't stock, even though they regularly stock normal Coke). Quite often we've found a favourite item or drink, only to never see it again. The prices are quite expensive, but when you're away from home, money is no object if it's a much-loved favourite (I would have paid over $5 for a 50g bag of Smith's Salt and Vinegar crinkle cut chips when I was living in the US, and got a little too excited the day I ate a meat pie for the first time in nearly a year). You can find stuff on reduced because it's out of date or close to use by, and sometimes they have 12 packs of soft drink for $10 which is quite reasonable. Some stock I don't understand why they even have - we do have aluminium foil and ziplock bags here and they don't taste or function any different. The staff are generally friendly enough, but don't dare ask the manager lady if they're going to stock something unless you want to get your head bitten off! Also, I think they source their stock from the west coast, as a lot of soft drinks are names we, being East Coast residents, have never heard of - also means some of our East Coast favourites are never to be seen at this store. I am a firm believer as I have lived outside the USA for the last 14 years that when you want something from "home", you are willing to pay for it. My focus when shopping for items online - yes, online is better...is to focus on all of the great BBQ Marinades, rubs and sauces. You can really go nuts here. Sure, I bring some back post my US visits, but you run out and USA foods is there to save the day. The second item I purchase from USA foods is Crystal Light. Now this perplexes me: why no crystal light in AU when I see other Kraft foods here. I definitely need to check this out. Not for the place itself (kinda gross), not for the service (non-existant) and definitely not for the prices. But if you just MUST have something that you would normally buy in the States for $1 or less, you just might part with the $6 you'll be charged here. Let's face it, we all have cravings for things we can't have. Anyone that has filled their suitcase with Coconut M&M's or Peanut Butter Cups knows this. As far as a convenient place to get said things - this is your one and only stop, short of bribing a traveller. As far as value, service and visiting a shop that's not entirely depressing - this is not the place to go. Thankfully they also have an online store. I would suggest skipping the shopping experience and ordering online. You won't be paying American Pie prices, but you should find what you're looking for. We spent $60 there and the whole environment was wrong the workers were like robots, they just didn't want to be there, we bought something on clearance then I got home and saw it was a month past the use by, I tried to make it anyway and there was a bug inside right up the top. The other 3 of the products we did buy have been good. But just seems to be an unfriendly place like these people couldn't care less. read more

This place is a must for the American expats who have special craving. Ah it makes me home sick every time I go here. Just walking in almost brings a tear to my eye but be warned that's not because of my longing for America, its the prices! I see stuff there I miss so much but have to convince myself its worth it and makes practical sense. I go there for Mexican food such as canned tomatillos, salsa Verde, and blue corn flour. Little odd things like Jiffy Muffin mix and BisQuick LOL Darn that they never have Honey Nut Cheerios. Its a little messy and disorganised and a bit crowded but you don't come here for he shopping experience, if you want that go to Coles/Woolies. read more

We love the USA and it's products. The products sell themselves. The disappointing thing is the products are often out of stock and passed their use by date. If you have ever been to, or lived in the United States, this place will help you remember some of those junk food and BBQ favourites. But don't think you are going to be paying anywhere near the prices of Safeway, Walmart or the like. Unfortunately way over-priced. It is surprising how many customers you see walk through their doors considering the awkward position of Melbourne this store is located in. Thank God for the online store. The variety of those favourite US lines are not as big as one may think, and the presentation of the store is not the best. The introduction of Costco stores to Melbourne might have affected some clientele, but with the Costco store being built in the same suburb, will this kill this little store. The introduction to a new VIP system for online shopping is a step in the right direction but shopping in store doesn't put any credit towards your online account - a big thing that should be fixed (maybe a USAbuys card to come to copy the flybuys name maybe???). But one thing this place does have going for it is the sale of beef brisket. One reason why I constantly shop here as no butchers I know do this cut of meat. Remember to check in via Yelp to receive a 5% discount at the counter. read more

Ex pats and nostalgic world travellers are the usual customers but this should not prevent anyone from getting a can of the famous Hershey syrup, possibly the best of its kind on earth. Then there are twinkies. One has to wonder how America became so great on a diet of these. You probably need to try one or seven to work it out. The prices are extremely reasonable given that everything in the shop has travelled across the Pacific to Moorabbin. read more

Sadly USAFoods has gone downhill in recent years and even more sadly they are pretty much the only show in town, or the whole of Australia pretty much. Unless you would rather shop on Amazon and pay their absolutely ridiculously high postage rates. I live in Sydney and when I first started ordering from the USA foods website they were great. They had cheap postage, a decent range and friendly staff. The last couple of orders I've placed had expensive postage accompanied by very mediocre customer service. They don't always respond to emails and when they do, they are rather blunt and unfriendly which is a far cry from the kind of customer service I received when actually in the USA! I would take my cravings for Apple Jacks cereal elsewhere except for the fact that, as I said before, these guys are the only show in town! read more

I'm a Canadian living in Melbourne and was super excited when I found this place. I know how challenging it can be shipping over specific items, but I thought the place was fantastic for what it was able to provide. It had some great items and I was UBERLY excited when I found International Vanilla coffee creamer and Franks Red Hot Sauce. I will definitely be back!! I think some of the other reviews are extremely harsh and people can't expect to find everything they want from home. And obviously it's going to be expensive, but what do people expect? Normal items I would buy back home ie. shampoo, make-up, etc., that I can find here are double the price too. My bottom line is go here if you are feeling a hankering for some good ol' food from home. You will pay more for it, but it's worth penny in my opinion. Cheers! read more

These are the best guys to turn to when you ant a taste of the good ole U.S. of A. Their online service is quick and easy. Their shipping is uber fast and well packed. They even gave me a free USA Foods tote bag. You'll find everything from pumkin pie filling in a can, clam chowder in a can, Lucky Charm cereal, all sorts of Hershey's and Reese's chocolates, Pop Tarts and so much more. read more

It used to be good, now its a bit crap. Been there 3 or 4 times and ordered twice from their website. Terrible customer service. The first web order took months to arrive and the second one never did. Emailed the store and got very unhelpful and rude responses. Going into the shop isn't much better, lots of products are out of date and they are not very reliable with their stock. Last time we drove from the CBD to Moorabin and came back without buying anything, total waste of petrol and tolls. I hate poor customer service, I dont expect ass kissing but I do expect fair and honest service. I personally havent experienced that at USAFoods, you guys have lost a customer. What a joke. I enquired about USA Foods post code, 24 hour flat rate special for Sydney and I was shot back a sarcastic email just pointing me to their checkout. That clearly wasn't the question. USAFoods.com.au is too lazy to put a list together or even reply to an email (a simple copy and past a post code would have worked to see if our postcode was on USAfoods.com.au 'Select List') would have been suffice. The quick and short of it, is no. The solution? Go to the website, Add Stuff to your Cart, and See if you are lucky enough to have your post code on USAFoods.com.au 'list'. Total scam territory. Once was a loyal customer, now no more. WIth USAfoods.com.au flat rate shipping everything is a rip off. It's clear highway robbery. I will never buy anything again from USAfoods.com.au. Never. There's no doubt this is the place to go when you crave something specific from the U.S. the only problem is the exhorbitant prices. If you want US candy bars best place to go is to a Sweet As shop. They have heaps ... Reeces, Hershey, Butterfinger, etc. other than that I only shop at USA Foods once a year for a special something. I was a faithful customer for several years spending over a hundred dollars with each order. Most popular items are always out of stock, staff have been rude over the phone, and the last order I places was shipped to some other customer IN ANOTHER STATE and rather than reship my order, I was told to wait and USA Foods made the other customer ship my order to me! I have no idea if anything was tampered with, so I had to throw away anything not in a can or jar. Also, they had access to my personal details. I just received my order after having to wait more than 2 weeks for it to come from the other side of Melbourne. Why so long? Anyway, when I ordered my goods online the final price was $44 including delivery. When I looked at my credit card statement online and checked the delivery docket that accompanied my goods, I was charged over $48. An increase of aboput 10%. I thought it must have been GST , but no, that was already charged on the online order. Why have I been charged extra than when I ordered online? We used to go here for our BBQ needs every now and then, however after a recent experience we won't be going back. (you can actually get most of the stuff elsewhere anyway and cheaper). We purchased some mayonnaise in Dec 17 only to get home and discover it was out of date by 10-months!! (Feb 17 and I only looked after I opened it, used it and noticed it tasted rancid) My husband called, spoke to the manager and asked for a refund and an apology, he was told he could come in and get a refund, but they wouldn't apologise because they 'check the stock' on the shelves, we live about an hour away, so won't drive back there, but I was flabbergasted that they wouldn't apologise for their mistake and it is for this reason we won't be back. Not apologising is ridiculous and tantamount to saying we were lying about the sell by date, because they 'check their stock'! Clearly either the person who checks the stock needs to have some better training starting with numbers and dates, (could be they are stuck in a time warp and need to know what day it is!) or they sell out of date stock on purpose, (which is a horrible thought, as a customer you should be able to trust a shop to make sure the food they sell to you is fresh) because their stock doesn't move quick enough. I see from other posts here that others have also purchased out of date foods, it's really not good enough. If your stock isn't moving quick enough, its time to re-think your business and while you are at it have a better attitude to the people who make your business viable, that is your customers. read more

How many grocery stores do you shop at (imported foods or otherwise) have the operating business principle of "If I'm legally allowed to sell out of date products, I will"????!!!! That quote is from USAFoods owner herself, when queried about why she has a great many products on her shelf (which are WAY over-priced) that are over 2 months PAST the "best before" date. Do you really want to shop at a grocery mart with such an attitude towards their business practice. Another example is their American Diner "style" breakfast sausages. The fact that they claim that they import all of their products from the US, coupled with the $9.00 price tag would suggest that the sausages were also imported from the US. In actuality, the sausages are made locally by an Australian company in a very sad attempt to mimic breakfast sausage. If you have ever tasted breakfast sausage, you would be appalled by what they are trying to sell as such. The fact that they are trying to sell them under the pretense of imported sausages just shows how much they really do try to scam you price wise. I mean...sure.....try to sell breakfast sausages.....that's awesome, but don't try to claim indirectly that they are imported when they are not. And DEFINITELY don't put an imported price tag on them for a product that you are getting LOCALLY produced. The only reason why they aren't being slapped with a false advertising lawsuit is because they cleverly call them American Diner "style". LMAO....scam artists at best. read more

80% of items sold here are well past there use by date. There were items 5 months past there used by date and non at all reduced. $7 for stale potato chips! Avoid or just buy online from other places that don't charge premium for expired goods. When we asked the staff why items are all expired, they informed us because they are shipped and can take 6 weeks to arrive...this is not true as some nonperishable items can last 6 months to a year, even the gum was expired! Very disappointing and avoid the drive here. read more

Not the big fan of this place like I used to be. American living in Adelaide, so I've both made great efforts to get to the store when in Melbourne, and shopped online. Just had a very unsatisfying email encounter, although they did reply almost immediately. Bought Jiffy cornbread mix during July 4th weekend sale - use by date of July 31. Made cornbread almost immediately on flying home and it had a horrible, inedible metallic taste (baking powder/soda?). A few weeks later I tried again (yes, had expired by then) by thoroughly sifting the mix to make sure it hadn't just settled. I'm not a complainer. Again, had to throw out. When the email notice came today about new food products, I was reminded I had meant to contact them. I lightheartedly told them 'send me a bag of fritos and we'll call it even.' These are all the excuses I was given: no one else has complained about Jiffy, you didn't get back to us soon enough, it would be expensive to send anything compensatory to Adelaide, maybe you didn't store it properly,..." Not impressed. So definitely not American-style service of keeping the customer happy. For less than $10, they could have turned this around and I wouldn't be complaining online. Also be aware that there is not a public toilet in the store. Used to use it but now they rather gruffly send you to drive to a health club nearby or the Bunnings. They're not nice people anymore, and I choose to give my $$ to places that appreciate my business. Have learned substitutes for many items not available in Oz e.g. granita biscuits for graham cracker crust or go to Costco now. read more
