That day was my dad's naturalization oath ceremony, so I took a day off to go with him to the USCIS office. Parking was a bit of a hassle, but after getting through security smoothly, we headed to the second floor where the ceremony was held. There were actually quite a lot of people becoming citizens that day. After checking in for the ceremony, friends and family were invited to witness this special moment. We listened to the President's message and the U.S. national anthem, and then it became official--my dad became a U.S. citizen. Congratulations to him on gaining voting rights and access to better benefits. Overall, like anything, there are pros and cons, but the staff members were all very friendly, and it was a meaningful and memorable experience for our family. read more

As far as federal government offices go, USCIS was surprisingly an overall pleasant experience. After 20 years in the U.S., one of my close family members FINALLY decided to get their citizenship. Once he received confirmation for his interview date, we arrived about 15 mins before his appointment time. Please note, you cannot show up more than 30 mins before your appointment. The truth is, the line was so long when we arrived that by the time we got to the security screening, we were right on time. So I would recommend arriving at least 15-20 mins before. Security was pleasant and tried their best to be as efficient as possible. Please also note, you cannot bring any bags or purses inside. They will make you leave and return the items to your car. After we got through security, everything else was smooth. My family member passed his knowledge test (yay!), and was directed to return in two weeks for his oath ceremony. We returned for the ceremony, which was honestly a bit lackluster considering all of the things people go through to become citizens of this country. It's kind of like they're just herding cattle to churn people through the system. At this point, my family member didn't really care and was just excited for everything to be over with. I think as long as you follow instructions provided by the national USCIS office, your time spent here will be fine. read more

They don't ever want to speak to you so they trap you with the bot who says it can understand complete sentences but it does not. I use a simple three word term and it comes up with a 3 minute dissertation on family and domestic violence. Over and over and over I tried so many different terms and kept asking for a representative and the bot would not allow me to speak to a representative. But yet it could not understand very plain English terms. Completely screwed up! What did I expect by calling a governmental agency. It forces you to add a star but if they had negative Stars that's what I would put. How are people supposed to get help when they can't speak to a human? read more

Hi I'm back hope this helps someone with their interview. This time going helping my mom with her US interview in Vietnamese because she met her English exempt. So after you check in, wait for them to call you. They will bring you to a room before you sit down, you have to raise your hand to take an oath that you swear to tell the truth. I have to translate all this to Vietnamese. My mom just has to say in Vietnamese then I translated to English. They asked her name, address and couples questions on the Civic questions. Once she passed they gave her and paper and tell us to come back out sit to wait to schedule for Oath ceremony. My tip to you is think the interviewer like your friend asking you questions so that will calm you nerves down. Also don't worry if you don't understand ask them to repeat it and slow down. Worst come to worst you still have 2nd tried to pass the interview(don't need to pay). Good luck read more

The whole process was very professional. The officers may not be so friendly at first since it is part of their job to intimidate the applicants, but once you are approved, they give you a smile and a handshake. The whole thing was fair. The wait time was only 20-30 minutes from the appointment. Considering the whole place was packed, that is very good time. The only thing I hated is that they will not let you have your own drink whatsoever. They have a water fountain and that's it. They have a vending machine for drinks but the public is not allowed to it. I have a thing against public water fountains, and I was quite thirsty that day! LOL. So there it is. Make sure you dress nice, have had plenty of water, and dont wear too much jewelry since you have to go through a metal detector and it can be a pain, and most important of all: BE PREPARED. You have to be there to check in 30 minutes before your appointment. Don't come in too early because they will tell you to come back within 30 minutes of your appt. read more

Showed up early for interview appointment and was skipped by 3+ people. It's been an hour and I'm still waiting.

I've been a permanent resident for decades. I've renewed my card at this office before, with no problems. Yesterday, 5/16/17 I went to the office to ask some questions about the timeline of my upcoming renewal. I admit that I arrived late in the day (2:45pm) but the posted hours on the front door are 3:15pm. I noticed upon arrival that they now use an appointment system. I asked the security guard/officer at the entrance if they see people without an appointment. She wasn't sure, but said that she thought so. Of course I understand that this person can't speak for the policies of the office, but she was my first point of contact. When I entered the area for assistance, I read a sign instructing that no one would be seen without checking in at the registration/admissions/reception desk. I forget the word used, but it was obviously the counter to the left. I noticed another sign informing people with appointments to enter the line area, which was stanchioned off. It didn't say anything about people without appointments, so I needed to ask someone if I was entering the correct line. There was NO ONE else in line, so I spoke from about 20 feet away to the person behind the counter and asked if the line was only for those with appointments, or could others use it as well. She responded in an unfriendly voice stating "we're closed". I said that I thought the hours posted on the front door were until 3:15, to which she replied again, this time with what I would describe as typical Atlanta anti-customer service, "the BUILDING is open until 3:15, but we're not seeing anyone any more." I was taken aback by her tone, but since I only wanted to ask some questions about how long the renewal process would take this time, what has changed, is it better to do everything online, do I have enough time to renew before my card expires or might I need an extension, since I'm here already can I begin the process, etc. I opted to ask her if I could just ask some questions. I just needed to have a conversation with someone for a few minutes. Her response was disgusting, in my opinion. She responded with "you can ask ONE question." I've been in the customer service industry for over 30 years and I don't take rudeness from anyone. I don't care where they work. I responded by asking when I could ask more than one question. She bluntly replied by telling me that I could make an appointment. There is no reason that she couldn't have been polite. And I'm not sure that I would have taken any of what she said as rude... until the point that she unpleasantly offered to allow me to ask "one question" as if she was doing me a favor. Being rude and condescending is not a favor. I have always known that I am a lucky immigrant. I am white and I speak English without an accent. But what about everyone else? How does this woman treat others? How welcome or scared are they made to feel? I realize that everyone coming in to this office is in need of help. And these are government employees who are charged with lawfully executing the process. But regardless, this woman is an employee, in charge of receiving people into the process. She has a boss and she is required to be nice to people, unless they are rude FIRST. I hope a person in a supervisory position happens upon this review because I tried VERY HARD to reach someone on the phone to complain, but that was impossible. read more

We had an appointment for our Green card interview. Waited for nearly 2 hours to get interview. The male officer I think was having a bad day and we felt very discriminated against ask all kind of questions that is not related to our proof of our relationship. I really think he step over his boundary while doing his job. Glad we don't have to deal with him again or maybe it's their job to give us a hard time. read more

The staff running this place are very unprofessional. I was deeply embarrassed at how they abused their power, treated people with disrespect, and failed to show pride in their country. Some of the quotes from officers as we entered the building: *"You are in a a federal building, so follow the rules, because you have no rights here." *"You are in a government building, so don't touch anything or it will fall apart." *"Security will come and confiscate your cameras if you take a photo in the waiting room." Further, they mispronounced the names of countries during the ceremony. And the emcee was strangely self-promoting and attention-seeking. At one point he asked everyone to go online and write about what a great job he was doing. The ceremony isn't about him. It is about America and the new citizens. I was very disappointed by my interactions with the staff here. read more

Today I went to USCIS office to take my citizenship interview. The parking was bit crowded but there are parking in the back. Security check in was fast. Make sure you arrive just 30 min before your interview. Otherwise the will not check you in. There were a lot of people in the waiting area. They do call out the number loud. I had to wait an hour before I was called. The officer was nice and professional. The interview took about 20-25 min. He ask me if I can attend the oath Ceremony next week in Atlanta. I said yes. After the interview I had to wait to get the letter for oath Ceremony around 15 min. Overall it was a good experience. read more

All we need is a single piece of paper - a certificate of citizenship - for our adopted daughter who became a citizen upon her arrival in the USA. For this we paid USCIS $1,185 four and a half months ago. Now, we are told that the Atlanta Field Office requires 8.5 to 11 months to process such a simple document request. This is outrageous, especially given the extortionary price we were required to pay!! If only there was some other way to get this necessary document. These folks know that there is nothing we can do, so they aren't interested in anything like customer service. None of them will ever be held accountable. None of them will ever be fired for this poor performance. read more

Today I had to get an extension on my wife's green card and it was a smooth transaction overall despites some unplanned events. We showed the security guard (who was extremely nice) when we entered the building out driver licenses. We were brining a 2 month old with us. The security guard asked us to remove the child from the car seat. To our suprise there was overage from the babys soiled diaper! We started cleaning right away, and you know, the security guard was so calm and cool about it. He event helped us! After clearing through securit and getting a ticket from the check in counter, we had to wait about 10-15 minutes before they called my wife for the infopass appointment. The immigration officer kindly asked what our issue was and we told him we needed an extension on her green card. He took my wife's passport and went back and stamped it granting her an additional year and that was that. That was it, very sraight forward! The security, check in lady, and immigration officer were top notch professional and made the whole experience smooth and without fuss. I was extremely happy with the service today and that is a rarity in government related establishments. Bravo and thank you for your professional service Atlanta. This is one of those love-hate relationship. The very first time we went for our appointment we waited 1 hr. That was 3 years ago. Fast forward now. The wait time are 3-4 hours longer. The agents look exhausted and tired. I mean they literally have another human future on there desk. As I wait , I see the annoyance when the come out of there back office. . I apologize for your experience. I would like to say I totally disagree with your comment. At the moment of the disagreement you had the right to ask for a supervisor. You didn't, you chose to complain via the internet. Your concerns should of have been directed towards the office staff or the management team. I agree it's not an easy process but as the same time, strict screening is required to receive this benefit. For example, if you go to Nordstroms and buy a handbag. The associate who rang you up decided to throw your merchandise around prior to ringing it up, you still decided to purchase the expensive handbag. Before you leave you can excercise two choices, the right to continue to purchase and ignore the employees attitude or ask to speak to the manager. If your not satisfied with the quality of service you receive you can make it easier for the next person by voicing your concern to management. I'm shocked you being a U.S Citizen doesn't understand how to exercise your constitutional rights! God Bless You! read more

Wow! I went here to attend a family member's ceremony (swearing in) for becoming a US citizen. The security staff was rude at the front door and do not manage the line where the personal belongings are scanned (they make the TSA at Hartsfield seem cheerful and friendly). Then, after arriving early, we are told to wait on the 3rd floor. Well, 40 minutes after the 11:00 start time, we are finally called only to find that many family members ignored the instructions to go to the 3rd floor and are already seated with their applicant. We, however, are left with standing room only. After a 51 minute delay, the ceremony starts. When the part we all came to see begins (the receipt of the citizenship certificate by each applicant), all family and friends are told to leave the room and not take pictures by the RUDE woman who facilitated the ceremony. I also heard her threaten to eject people from the building who commented on this behavior. Overall, badly managed, rudely executed and a disappointing experience for something that should have been memorable. read more
