I submitted clear, specific evidence straight from the official CHP Radar Operator's Manual showing serious foundational problems with the radar used by Officer Nyland: - The unit had not been professionally calibrated for over a year. - It was operated on an incline with interference from trees, rocks, and a raging river. - The officer turned off the Doppler/audio sound, which violates standard procedures. On February 25, 2026, Judge Mark Magit affirmed the conviction anyway. The decision only mentioned the officer's testimony that he checked the unit at the start and end of his shift and completely failed to address or analyze the CHP manual evidence I provided. I completed the online traffic school and paid the reduced fine after showing I am disabled and unemployed. The process felt completely one-sided. Mind you, I've never had a speeding ticket in my 43 years of driving. If you're fighting a radar-based ticket in Mono County, document everything. I am also filing a formal complaint with the California Commission on Judicial Performance (CJP) so others know this option exists when key evidence appears to be ignored. On top of the appeal issues, I've had ongoing problems with court communications. Most clerks acted like they were doing me a favor, with constant clerical mistakes, poor attitudes, and delays. One major issue early on: I requested an extension for a court date, but it sat on the DA's desk past the deadline, resulting in a failure-to-appear finding until I complained directly to Court Executive Officer Lester Perpall. This experience left a very bad taste. Drivers dealing with Mono County traffic court -- especially radar cases -- should be prepared. Justice isn't always served.

It's amazingly eerie. The dirty mattresses are still there. If you pay attention to the walls, you can read notes from past inmates. The courthouse (built in 1880) is gorgeous and photographs very well. I absolutely recommend finding the time to walk around the grounds - it's a quick stop. There is a coffee shop a block away so I grabbed some cold brew and took a morning stroll. Very thankful that I did since I might never return to Bridgeport again.

Even better, rental is free if you have a library card. The library itself is very nice and modern, if a bit small. The selection and facilities far exceeded any expectations I had for a town of this size. If you're passing through or staying nearby, this is a great place to get out of the sun for some peace, quiet and modern conveniences. To say nothing of all the books they gave here, too.

Granted, the old jail is probably scarier than the new, but still a good place to get the kids "scared straight." The old jail is a small building which houses a few dank cells and one small wide open shower. The kids thought it was fun, adults found it mildly interesting from a historic perspective. Worth a look if you are nearby, but don't make a special trip to see it. 3 stars.

Yeah, it's in BFE so when you get the call to pick someone up after an especially egregious skiing out of bounds issue, a DIP or a DUI, it's close to an hour long haul up to the county seat to drag their sorry asses back home. On the bright side, the deputies have so little to do they will shoot the shit with you and even tell tales of what your friend did during the arrest/while in the tank. I've heard that they let the women stay up late to watch SNL. But the food, well...meh. But there is a special dietetic menu for those inmates who are watching their carbs. More from Mr. Ness: "Well it's cold and it's clammy Man, it's colder than a pimp's heart But I've gotta do my time There's a lesson to be learned here but what a price to pay. You know, I may never learn" Also - this is where Sean Penn stayed when he went to jail for punching a paparazzi when married to Madonna. He paid extra to have the privilege to do time here rather than in LA County. There's No cell service, only 10 miles of paved road the 3 miles of gravel road. It's windy up there and we were there on June 27th and it was low to mid 60's. My phone was having issues working up there and we couldn't figure out why. My phone was telling me it was hot. So I just turned it off. Not sure what that was about. But Bodie is definitely a cool place to visit. I couldn't imagine living somewhere like that. I told Mark that's where you would move if you were really mad at your kids. Because to live in a place like that would be punishment. It's a harsh environment. No trees, no birds, no grass. I didn't even see a lizard. People just up and left. They left piano's, beds, stoves, clothes, photos. The casinos, bars, gyms. Look like the people just vanished on day. Curtains dangle and weathered in windows. You can look through the windows but you cannot enter the buildings. It's $8.00 for adults and I think $5 for kids to take stamp mill tour it's another $6 dollars that you pay for in the museum inside the park. The drive is partially paved, and mostly unpaved down a dirt road. There were a couple of cow gates to crossover, a few smaller rocks in the road. We traversed it in a Toyota Camry and were fine. A truck or SUV is ideal, but a sedan was completely workable. You are driving way out in the middle over nowhere then come of the hill and there is a rather large ghost town. We were COMPLETELY surprised at how large it was. Being a State Park there is a nominal entrance fee. See sign of posted prices in pictures! The park is very educational, historical, cool things to see! It is a great way to be outdoors walking and getting exercise without calling it exercise! There are both restrooms at the parking lot and then outhouses down near the hotel for use. There was a water fountain (we brought our own) I only saw that it was working if needed. This park is preserved as is for people to see. There are things on the ground to step over which are natural terrain like rocks and stuff and then there are items like chains to step over to prevent injury. An individual with serious mobility issues would have a hard time unless they utilized a wheelchair or mobility device of some sort. The paths that you walk on are dusty, plan on being dirty, it is a ghost town in nature!! There was a museum to enjoy. In the museum there was the option to purchase tickets to see the mill for $6 per person. We also saw a sign on the church that there would be a talk shortly. There was an indoor area to sit on benches and watch a movie about the history of Bodie. It was neat seeing some of the items inside the buildings like original wall paper, toys, toddler potty chairs, vintage furniture, old tools, wagons... If you are looking for a great way to enjoy a drive, exercise, family time, history, and see the largest preserved ghost town then this is for you! Would we return: ABSOLUTELY.. I was sad I didn't know about this before and didn't have more time to explore and do the Mill tour!! We only spent about an hour there. I'd love to plan appropriately and spend the better part of a day here. What is there to eat, drink and snack on?? NOT A THING OTHER THAN A WATER FOUNTAIN.. PACK ACCORDINGLY AND DONT FORGET AND HAND SANITIZER!!!

The 360 degree views from the top are incredible. We went up in autumn, and the aspens along the route up were phenomenal. If you ride down the eastern side, you'll drive by the ghost town of Belfort, a small mining town established in the 1880s, that still have a few structures standing.

Scenic rural area, and any post office is a much needed necessity.. Didn't get to snap any photos, ( had to hurry and get back on the road- didn't want to get stuck behind any trucks.. They insisted on signing us up for library cards even though we reside hundreds of miles away. We gave them some greeting cards as a gift on our last visit, and they even mailed us a little thank-you that we received after we returned home. They invited us to join the little happy-hour gathering of local businesses taking place in the back of the library and help ourselves to some snacks (we declined). I agree with Liv K. that the tiny adjacent park is a nice place to hang out -- I sat with my laptop on a bench with the sound of a stream running nearby, doing some necessary work in a lovely environment. This is real, old-school, small-town charm. The only reason I give 4 stars rather than 5 is that I didn't check out the book collection, and I don't think I can really provide a complete review of a library if it doesn't include the books.
