Shacklefords is a relatively small unincorporated community in King and Queen County named for Virginia colonist, Roger Shackleford. A post office was established here in 1800, but this is the modern post office that has long since replaced the original. Hours: M-F 8:30-1:00, 2:00-4:30, Saturday 8:30-12 No passport service

It is bursting with red, white and blue everywhere! There are patriotic gnomes, teddy bears, hearts, dogs, flowers, garland, wreaths and banners everywhere! There are even a few "Uncle Sam's" in the style of bobble heads and cut outs! It looks like the postmaster is Rebecca Ethington and she didn't forget the bald eagle in her Stars and Stripes theme! It's very festive so one can't help but appreciate the post master's style and dedication to this otherwise run-of-the-mill government facility. Kudos to you postmaster! Keep your flags flying! Volunteers serve as host and are the sweetest individuals you will ever meet. The Tucker home originally faced the Palace Green, then was relocated in 1788 to its present day Nicholson St. address. Built in 1719 for Tucker who was a noted jurist & law professor at nearby College of William & Mary. It is one of the 88 original properties on the Colonial Williamsburg grounds. The home is a perfect place to warm up by the fire on a cold Winter day, or to cool down on a hot Summer day with air conditioning. Guest do drop by in the afternoon. The last time visiting George Wythe had a talk with around six visitors attending. Of special note a research library at the home is open to guest. A donation of $100 to the CW Foundation is required and is a tax write off. With the donation you become a member. Our family has enjoyed the hospitality and find it an ideal place for a break when touring the colonial capitol.

The postmaster,Cindy Carter, gave me a hearty welcome and gave me some history of this diminutive post office. According to her, it was built some 40 years ago and you can tell she takes pride in her job. The lobby was in tip top shape, with the shipping supplies well stocked. There was a note posted saying that customers with P.O. Boxes needed to use their keys to gather their mail, rather than going to the counter and asking for it. On the front desk, they were some rather worn but nifty thick zip code books! Also displayed were a wide variety of postage stamps! A good reminder of what constitutes media mail was posted on the wall. There used to be a copier in the lobby, but it's since been removed. This post office is open from 7:30-11:30, 1:30:4:30 M-F, 8:15-11:15 Sat. The hours are a bit unusual from other post offices. No passport service. This location serves approximately 1,400 residents.

Located in this quiet river town, this post office serves less than 900 folks and is considered a "census-designated place" according to the census bureau. Surrounded by water, you'll see marinas, boatyards, and bait shops all around this unincorporated community. This laid back hamlet has few restaurants and shops, and is super chill on Mondays with only a few businesses open. We had to drive to Kilmarnock to get a bite to eat! The post office has the typical postal services, but no passport service. There's a drive by drop off mailbox along the parking lot. Patricia Hall is listed as the postmaster of this small post office that caters to the local sailing/boating/fishing and water loving folks in this low key vacation town. Of course it also served as a place to bed down for the night. The circa 1750 home was both the home and business of Henry Wetherburn, his family & slaves. It was one of the most successful taverns in town and catered to the wealthiest clientele. There are outbuildings in the rear which are also original. It is open for guided tours on selected days, but does not operate as a colonial tavern. Recommend!
