I rang up the Artarmon Medical Centre in exactly this predicament yesterday. Not only did they book me in very efficiently for an appointment that morning, but they also gave me advice on applying for a Medicare card and all sorts of complicated quasi-legal stuff that I had no idea about. When I arrived for my appointment, the receptionist was incredibly friendly, I was seen by the doctor very quickly, and everything was sorted out with the utmost precision. I hope I'm not ill again, but if I am, at least I know I'll be in the safest hands at the Artarmon Medical Centre.

Bulk billing is only available for seniors or on an as-Doctor-sees-fit basis, my only problem with the place. Fresh Therapeutics Chemist is conveniently located next door so you can get your prescriptions filled straight after your appointment. So if you are sick, need some care and live in the area, Broadway General Practice is a good place to go.

This practice is quite large, which has its pros and cons. You can book appointments online quite easily, and have an overview of which doctors are available when, and what ailments they specialize in. Because of how big this place is, they can provide at least an initial consultation for most health issues, and then refer you on to specialists as needed. The front desk staff have a lot to do, and as a result may not always come off as being very friendly or polished, but I got the feeling that they would be able to answer any questions I might have had, and I saw them making a real effort to answer the phones. I interacted with the front desk to pay a $70 consultation fee for each of my appointments (I'm not covered by Medicare). As with any doctor's office, I always aim to arrive early in case there are forms to fill out, and am then prepared to wait because other people's appointments always run over--and when it's my turn to see the doctor, I want their full attention, rather than feeling they are rushing to get to the next patient. In my two appointments here, one (scheduled for midday) started twenty minutes late, while the other (scheduled for 9:10 started early). As a relatively young person, I'm very conscious of whether or not I'm being listened to, and I really appreciated that both doctors I've seen here were genuinely interested in my health problems and suggested multiple ways of addressing them. As a result, I actually have confidence that the doctors here know what they are doing--in the past, I've met with doctors who prescribed antibiotics without running any tests, and written leave of absence notes for work after barely examining me. It's also helpful that there is a pharmacy on site, as well as physio and psychology services. This is definitely a buzzing "health hub" as a result, and attracts a broad audience, but that seems to be a testament to the quality and convenience of this service. I don't necessarily look forward to doctor's appointments, but now that I've found Broadway General Medical, at least I don't have to dread them.

As this place doesn't bulk bill, its best not used for common colds and the like, for which there is a bulk bill practice down the road near Hyde Park. I came here when I needed something checked out and the staff were great. My doctor took time to listen to my concerns and did all the necessary tests. The pathology lab is also next door which is really convenient. Follow ups and referrals were all handled professionally. Its weird but I never felt like I was in some queue and that they had to get as many patients in and out as possible, even though it was a medical centre. So if you need something more serious than the flu to be checked out, I would rather pay the fee and come here as you will get better service.

Because it's hard to find a Dr who takes the time to explain your condition, the whys and the becauses, and drawings if need be for extra explanation. She does offer alternative and integrative medicine for her patients focussing on finding out initially what causes their problem and try to remedy it if possible and by treating the symptoms. She's very thorough, helpful, and offer many services that other Drs don't. She's very friendly which is a big bonus. Dr Vanker had a practice in Sydney in the past and many of her patients continue to travel the distance to see her. That says a lot!

There is actually only one doctor (Mrs Mira Andric). My actual consult was pretty close to the appointment time, although they require full payment for the consult, I could claim my Medicare rebate immediately while at the clinic. The GP has a good list of specialists in the CBD she provides referrals to, and they respect her referrals. In addition her partner does mole scans on Fridays at the clinic. An appointment for a scan can be a month or so away. He is thorough and keeps a record for future reference of potential suspicious moles.

The friendly, delightful ladies who are sit at the reception desk always ask if I would like a cup of tea or glass of water. And then just as i've had a great consult downstairs, i'm whizzed through the claims process upstairs in a jiffy! Bupa on George is convenient, friendly and my favourite/not favourite place to be.

It's a lot less generic and a lot more personal care than those horrible Mcmedical centres popping up everywhere. You know, a proper doctor's practice. The GPs are all fairly professional, speak good English and care about their patients overall well-being, not just an assembly line legal drug pusher's residence. They also have very good on site pathology and counseling services and they offer bulk-billing. Although booking ahead is essential, so not generally the best for a serious emergency. But if you live in the neighbourhood and need a good regular GP I'd definitely recommend them.

Kiran really treats you like an individual rather than just another patient and spends the time to get to know you as a person. She only works part time which makes it tricky at times, but she is worth the wait. Kiran is a warm and really nurturing doctor - added benefit is she provides shared care services with RPA when having a baby. She not only looks after me but also my husband and 2 girls. Its a small clinic but another massive benefit is they have pathology on site one or two days a week so if you need this, make sure you book a day to do both doctor and pathology in one go. Makes life so much easier!
