After hours on I-40, we pulled in hoping for a clean room and a good night's sleep. Instead, we found one of the cutest little Route 66 motels we've stayed in. The orange and teal colors, the retro vibe, the beautifully crafted property...it all has so much personality. You can tell this isn't just another motel. It's a place that people genuinely care about. The woman at check-in was incredibly friendly, and opening the door to a room that was already perfectly cool, with oldies playing and Turner Classic Movies tuned on the TV, honestly made us grin. It felt like stepping into a different era in the best possible way. Then there are the practical things: the room was unbelievably clean, the beds were cozy, the sheets were soft, the A/C worked perfectly, and OH MY GOODNESS...the water pressure! After a long day on the road, that shower was glorious. Being able to back the car right up to our door was convenient, the property was peaceful and quiet all night, and we felt completely comfortable and safe. There are plenty of places to stay in Tucumcari. This is one we'll actually remember. We left saying, "Yep...next time we're staying here again.

He made us feel right at home especially from New York! He gave us a whole introduction about the history of the motel, recommendations for local places around, his favorite spots to eat, and how everything works in the motel! The rooms are SPECTACTULAR! Absolutely spotless and pristine, decorated in a vibrant orange, blue and cream color. Everything looked and felt like you were stuck in the 50s. There was even a radio that had a dial, only playing 50s and 60s music. You park right outside of your motel door, with a key to get inside. Super easy process and easy to see when you get there! There is a dead bolt and chain to lock the room as well. An absolutely wonderful stay on the heart of Route 66! Would love to come back and stay longer and try more!

She stated she would refund my money and to get a room at another motel. NO HELP, AT ALL. Luckily the Palomino across the street is open 24 hours with on-site management. The Almara burned me and did nothing to fix the situation. The Almara sucks. Still waiting on my refund also. FYI GO TO THE PALOMINO.

Going to office, noticed lots of people loitering around the parking lot with no apparent purpose. Many of the people with rooms were sitting outside with the provided folding chairs and their doors open (see below this should have been warning about temperature). It is directly next door to Del's restaurant so this *may* have contributed as they possibly seemed like local residents. Reserved a king room and was given a double. Noted a sign in office that said to turn off AC when you leave as "this saves energy which saves us money which keeps our prices low for you." Upon entering the room, even though they had asked my arrival time, the AC was off and the room was HOTTTTT. There were bad mosquitoes so leaving a door or window open without q screen was not an option. Opted to turn on the AC and try to get dinner and hopefully it would have cooled upon return. It did not and even in the morning the room was hotter than the air outside with the AC running all night. Did I feel safe? Not particularly. Lots of loitering people, no deadbolt, no chain, and had trouble getting single barrel lock to latch. Was it in good repair? Again, no. The stairs were falling apart if you get an upstairs room. The door latch wasn't easy to secure. The window seal was in need of repair. Just general upkeep needed on the property. Was it clean? No, the bathroom was dirty in shower floor and counter around sink and floor. While the sheets and comforter seemed clean and fresh, the box spring cover was stained. The surfaces of table and desk seemed clean. On the exterior, animal feces not cleaned off property. Were they hospitable? They tried, I think. Small touches were attempted like the welcome text and the flower on the toilet paper but this could not overcome the other issues. Was it quiet? Yes, once it got dark and traffic died down, it was quiet. Possibly because the AC unit was too loud to hear over though. Amenities? Mini refrigerator and microwave in room (I didn't use either). The room had a full walk-in closet with a suitcase valet. There is supposedly a provided Hulu account per sign in office, but this was logged out in the room provided so unable to access. There are other properties that seem better maintained along this stretch of road in Tucumcari for the same price point, seek elsewhere. (That said, there also appear to be WAY worse, use caution).

There's tables and a nice dance floor, but don't think there has been dancing or live music in many years. We sat at the extremely well stocked bars, ordered a couple of beers and were lucky enough to meet and visit with Mike, the owner. A most patient, kind and friendly man, he cheerfully answered my 101 questions. If you find yourself in the area, looking for a clean, vintage motel room or just a quick, refreshing stop from the road, please stop in. Don't wonder about the lack of cars in the lot or absence of traffic on this stretch of Route 66. You'll get stellar service and great drinks regardless.
