We were wandering through Borough market, not looking to buy beer, and then we saw the stack of German and Belgian beers sitting by the entryway to the stall. So we of course wandered in. They had a beer that we've been hunting for so long. They were super friendly and didn't mind that we bought all four of that specific beer. They also use some really nice bags that apparently hold over 3 wine bottles (or so the cashier told us). Utobeer, why haven't we met before?! This craft beer store at Borough Market is a beer lover's paradise. They stock a wide range of unique products from all over the world. Whatever you're into - ales, lagers, wheat beers - you will find something to suit your tastes. Understandably, some particularly uncommon or strong craft beers here are quite pricy. But there are many affordable bottles which will cost you the same that you'd pay for the same amount of some boring generic beer in the pub. Considering that many of the craft bottles also have unique designs and cover art, I find this also a good place to grab a selection of special occasion gifts for beer lovers. (Obviously, taste is what matters first, but the decorative element - and sometimes truly wacky art - on the beers is a nice final touch.) Also, if you are worried about feeling lost among the hundreds of bottles, don't be. The gentleman working at the store was very helpful and gave me good suggestions for beers that would fit my tastes the best. Clearly he knows quite a bit about each brand on offer. The store accepts cards for a £10 minimum purchase. (Or if you are grabbing just a little something & are cashless, there is a cash machine five minutes away which the staff will direct you to.) read more

This has got to be a beer lover's heaven. I'm not even that partial to the stuff (my Czech family just winced), but I have to say that even I'm intrigued by their shiny display of beer bottle after beer bottle that I've never seen before. This stall has the tiniest smidge of an edge to it... something to do with those industrial-blue shelves and being surrounded by such a global sampling of that unifying proletarian beverage; it's a little like being in the basement cellar of the coolest fraternity on campus - evocative of the exact vibe Urban Outfitters is going for. I don't know very much about beer, be it ale or lager, much less about "limited productions" like Yorkshire Stingo (a featured bottle when I stopped in there), but I know people who do... and I know they would be very happy if I brought them here. read more

Utobeer is a little store in the Borough market that specialises in world beers. They have quite a large selection (around 600 types) for a small space. What drew me there is my search for Herald Black Czech beer which they have (sometimes). The staff are eager to offer an alternative when it's not in stock. They also have home delivery service. read more

I've upped my rating from three stars to four. I've come to realize the prices here are actually not bad, and Utobeer has started putting price tags on the beers. The selection continues to impress, and Borough Market definitely has the highest concentration of good beer in London. I keep my original post for the sake of posterity: This was the first beer location I visited in London and I was a bit disappointed. Mostly because all the beer is damn expensive, and also because these damn expensive prices aren't even posted. So you have to ask about every beer in which you are interested, and when you discover you can't afford it you have to go put it back. Upsides to this place? It is in a great area, so you can visit some actually decent beer spots (the Rake, the Market Porter, Brew Wharf). And the selection, too, is quite good, but that is almost a negative because the prices are prohibitive. read more

My first experience with Utobeer was during the Three Sheets: London NYE Pub Crawl episode when Zane Lamprey goes to Borough Market for a life-altering experience with the red-headed, kilt-wearing owner. When he initially arrives at Utobeer, he is told that there is a beer here for anyones personality. Zane then asks, "Do you have something that is wild, dark, and twisted - just like me" to which he is given a dark amber lager named Dark & Twisted - to which he indeed was enjoyed. I wandered in here last Saturday specifically to check out all the different kinds of craft beers. In my opinon, the place has a great selection - about 90% of which I had never heard of before so it was successful. Expensive for craft beers - but that's also the effort put into them to be unique. So, having gone back and forth to Berlin quite a lot and enjoying a night out drinking til god knows when and *then* waking up without a hangover I am always on the look out for some german beer. I'm pretty certain it's magical when it comes to it's 'look no hangover' properties. Utobeer now provides me with all the German beer (and quite frankly beer from pretty much anywhere else) that I could ever possibly want. It's just in Borough Market and so it's pretty easy to get to. It was £3.20 for a bottle of Augustiner Edelshoff, so it's not cheap. But y'know... imports. The downside? It's only open Wed-Sat. Big fan of world beers, in terms of taste, brewery history and shallow as it sounds, design and label artwork. Usually I order my batches online, but that includes a delivery charge . Happening upon Utobeer randomly was a great find. Located in Borough Market at London Bridge, it has a great selection of beers and ales from around the world. There's a minimum card charge of £10 unless you can use wireless tapping, then there's none. They take cash too. The staff there are friendly and can tell you a little about the beer if they've tried it. It's a nice space and having all the beers at easy access means you can checked them out thoroughly. It'd be great if they had the option to sample some of the beers but it can be hard to set that up in limited space. read more

An incredible selection of beers and the only place in London that has stocked and continues to stock the entire range from my favourite, once obscure, Scottish brewery. The beers are considerably overpriced, but it's a small price to pay for exclusivity of the beers and it is in Borough Market. I am so keen to like Utobeer, so it hurts for me to say that the customer service has been a huge disappointment every visit. Perhaps I have been unlucky, but staff have consistently appeared distracted and disinterested. More often than not I have to request a bag, a receipt and on one occasion my change. And don't expect a smile as they take your money either. If I was cynical I'd say that Utobeer is simply tourist fodder, but its excellent stock suggests that it's aiming that bit higher. I just wish it would bring it's customer experience on par and perhaps I would pop in less reluctantly. read more
