I went here to visit some nursing students. They gave me a tour of this beautiful little hospital and it was impressive. They've got recent awards for excellent care hanging in the beautiful atrium. The staff I met along the way were friendly and professional. read more

Incredible ER staff and nice facility I was bit by a dog this morning in Concan and was dreading the ER visit to Uvalde. I was pleasantly surprised with the professionalism, courtesy and efficiency of the staff. Dr. Blackburn and nurses Cody, Scott, Rebekkah and Oscar were excellent. The doctor was worried about muscle damage and called in an orthopedic ,Dr. Conoley, on his day off to make sure there was no muscle damage before stitching me up. I hope you don't need to make a trip to the ER near Uvalde, but if you do, I highly recommend this place due to their staff. read more

Five stars for all the ER staff, Doctors and nurses who took care of my sister after she broke her pelvic femur ball. Thank you to the ER Doctors and nurses who first saw and treated Rebecca while she was in agonizing pain, also to the nurses and Dr Uptergrove who managed her pain for a week before she could be transported to my home. Thank you to Hospice while in the hospital (Dr Sosa, Heidi and Marilyn) for gently helping Becky realize that it was time to let them help her ...and thank you Heidi and Joe for helping me and my other sister's understand that even though Beckys time here was short there was still time left to enjoy. Each of you are so beautifully and perfectly qualified for your positions..it's amazing. Rebecca survived breast cancer 16 years, the past 8 had been metastasized in her bones. Uvalde Memorial Hospital - Family Practice Near Me - Uvalde, Texas

While on my most recent adventure, I was met with the minor inconvenience of trying to find a hospital in the small town of Uvalde TX. I am not a snob or a total city slicker, but since it was the weekend I was a little worried that it would not be comfortable or have enough people on hand (no pun intended). I had gone a few decades without stitches, but I sure did need them this time. I killed a doe which I will be eating, so please save your protest letters. Her ghost must have been hanging around during the field dressing though. I'll spare you the gory details of what i was doing when the accident happened, but I will tell you that the knife was sharp, and the non-locking blade closed on two of my fingers. My reception was warm, and the nurses were attentive and calm. I made conversation while they soaked the hand in iodine and called the most awesome Physician's Assistant Charles Hare to perform the minor surgery. After a bit of observation Charles decided that I was not going into shock or incapable of sitting through the ordeal of being sewn back together. All of the staff's bedside manner was refined and apropos. I was made to feel at ease, and thirteen stitches later, ready to drive back to the deer lease. The entire experience was much better than it could have been. I got nervous at the idea of having to go to the hospital, but with such a professional staff my mind was set at ease. I truly hope that I never have to see them again, but it is kinda cool to get a nickname for the first time in your life. They call me Lefty now. read more

The only viable explanation I have for Mr. Javier D's review of this hospital is the staff had negligently killed off all the other patients prior to his arrival. My first experience with Uvalde Memorial was about seven years ago. I was visiting the in-laws who own a ranch here. I got recruited to do some welding as the in-laws can not weld. The auto darkening welding mask I was given had bad batteries, so after eight hours of work, I had burned my corneas badly. A trip to the emergency room was needed. The waiting area was empty, yet I sat for seven hours before being seen. When I did get in I found only two other patients being treated. None arrived after I did. I had to wonder why it took so long to be seen. When I found out the two other patients had non life threatening conditions, I was furious. Two doctors treating one leg fracture and one dog bite, and I have to wait seven hours? My next experience came last year after we moved to Texas. My two year old son was jumping on his bed and went through a screen. He landed head first on the concrete beneath his window. This time the ER had a few people waiting to be seen. There was a young man who needed a few stitches, but his bleeding was under control. There was a young man who may have had a broken ankle or a bad sprain. And there was a middle aged woman that had an infected ingrown toenail. My son was bleeding, may have been seriously injured and he was, we believed, slipping in and out of consciousness. (As luck would have it, he just needed a nap). You would think the boy would be a priority. The patients were seen in the order they arrived. Has this ER never heard of triage? You treat those with potentially life threatening conditions first. Not here. The lady with the bum toenail went in first. Should anyone in my family ever require an ER visit, I'm driving to Loyola University Hospital in Chicago. Not only will I get there faster than I can be treated here, I'll get more competent care. read more

I broke my leg Aug.24 2019 in Leakey Tx. By the time we got to the emergency room in Uvalde I was in so much pain and so afraid of what they were going to tell me. Everyone there was terrific! They immediately got me calm down. They did x-rays, so they knew it was a sever break of my fibula. They calmly told my that I had broken it and I needed to see my doctor 1st thing Monday, but didn't scare me with the details. They put an amazing splint on me and call in a prescription to Hondo, so we could pick it up on the way home, and gave me a copy of my x-rays. I didn't find out how bad the break was until I was with the orthopedic surgeon. I am so grateful for their professionalism! read more

I fell while hiking at Garner state park and was taken via ambulance to Uvalde Memorial Hospital where I was discharged the next day for a simple dislocated shoulder. X-rays were done both before and after the procedure my discharge documentation clearly states that there was nothing wrong except a dislocated shoulder. After three weeks of the in ability to use my arm I went to My primary care physician and was informed that my shoulder was broken in three separate areas. Do not trust the radiologist or care for that matter. I was not the best patient however I should have not been discharged with a thrice broken shoulder. I guess thanks for nothing really read more

Fast quick service and very attentive staff, didnt have to wait long for doctor

I've had to take my son to the ER at Uvalde Memorial Hospital on two different occasions and both visits earned 5 stars! The first time we thought he was having appendicitis and I was headed to San Antonio to Methodist Children's Hospital. However, his pain was acute and I decided against being on the road any longer than necessary and diverted to Uvalde. We arrived in the very early morning hours and were seen right away. It was quickly determined that he had a congenital kidney problem and we were soon on an ambulance with our x-rays in hand and en route to Santa Rosa where a pediatric urologist was waiting for us. Our second visit was due to a severe asthma attack and, once again, the triage process worked beautifully and we were seen right away (placed in the large room usually reserved for trauma since all the other rooms were full). I think sometimes the general public doesn't understand "triage" nor do they understand conditions that can be life threatening. I will add that I've also used UMH for some routine medical testing and have been quite pleased with the "culture of service", friendly employees and efficiency that I've observed. read more

We were on vacation at Garner State Park from Sun 17 Jul to 24 Jul before leaving Dallas area Fri. my eyes were red and inflamed, when Wed. we drove to Uvalde to have my eyes checked they had gotten so bad and were so sore, crusted all around eye, cracked skin all around and blurry vision. Upon arriving at Uvalde ER we did not have to wait to get our name on list to get registered, was registered in timely manner, but in ER room the physician assistant on call was very unconcerned and even after explaining to him that we were from out of town and did not know of any other place to go and my eyes were just getting worse every day, he said "they are not that bad"! I told him my granddaughter had had pink eye Wed. before and I had kept her, so I was assuming what I had was pink eye, he immediately said no you don't have pink eye, what makes you think that? duh! all the symptomsand contact with someone who had it! There was only 3 patients in ER and no one waiting when we got in the room. He was absolutely unconcerned and never offered any eye drops to ease the pain, nor cream/salve for my crusty eye lids that were cracked and very inflamed! Nor did he offer any info on what to do with eyelids! Finally after being in ER room 2 hours a very nice RN named Olga came in and took my blood pressure and temp left room, then came back in 15 or 20 min and did an eye test outside room to see if vision was effected and I told her then I was leaving, they had done absolutely nothing to help me in 3 hours of being there. She said no don't go the doctor has written you prescriptions. So all I got out of that ER visit was 3 prescriptions and an diagnosis of "conjunctivitis" Pink Eye,I told the nurse that he said it was NOt PINK EYE, she had no explanation. I even told that PA (C. Rader) that I know this was not to them an emergency, but to me it was because we were with family on vacation and had been miserable and getting worse and did not know where else to go! I looked at prescriptiion before leavng ER and two presc. were for pain in eye! Nurse said it was OK. WalMart pharmacy said it would be about 2 hrs to. fill presc., so we went to dinner back in Garner and called 3 times with no answer at Pharmacy, we drove back over there and it was 8:50 pm and they had already closed (should be 9:00pm) and got someone to open door and they did not have it anyway, it had to come in on truck next day around 2:00pm. Upon going to my doctor Monday July 25, said I should have been given an antiobotic drops for eyes! We discovered there is an Urgent Care in Uvalde and if ever have a need again that is where we will go. read more

I had tweaked my back and pulled a muscle and thought I would just let it work itself out if I could take some over the counter pain meds and try stretching. After about 8 hours of trying to deal with the pain I thought it might be best to get it checked out to make sure there wasn't something more serious was going on. I was experiencing a very sharp and debilitating pain when taking deep breaths and trying to straighten my back while walking. I checked into the ER and was asked some basic questions about my diet and other drug habits like smoking, alcohol and medications I was taking. They recommend and x-ray and the results came back clear. Doc comes in and says I most likely have a muscle strain which was what I assumed myself. Pretty standard visit up until the point where I requested a wheel chair to make my exit out of the hospital easier. The pain can become so sharp and intense that it literally brings me to the floor. As I'm waiting for the chair to be brought to me another nurse asks that I try walking. I'm hesitant and I look at my friend who had to practically had to carry me to his car to drive to the hospital. I take a few steps and the nurse replies, "see you're walking fine you don't need a wheel chair." I take two more steps and the sharp pain has come up, my knees buckle and I collapse to the floor in agony. I was used to this pain for the majority of the day and expected that would happen but then the nurse takes my hand and ties to pull me off the ground while my back is still stiff. His actions caused me more pain and makes a comment about how I fell to the ground on purpose and made me seem like I was faking my injury. I cried out in pain and I said some profanities but the nurse continued to ridicule me. I tool his comments and actions towards me very personally. I couldn't believe that someone would try to force me to complete a task I knew I would have difficulty with and then place their opinion on whether I was actually experiencing pain. I made it into my wheelchair and at this point I wanted to know exactly what this person's issue was with me. I had told him that I was dealing with this pain all day and I wouldn't have come in unless I thought it was serious. His reply was "boo hoo." I replied by asking him what the f*** was his problem?" But he said I need to show more respect and that if we were outside he would handle this situation much differently. At this point security comes in to wheel me out of the building and I'm just in shock. I came in for treatment, was given a diagnosis and medication for treatment and then asked to perform a duty which I was not comfortable with knowing how the result would turn out because I had been unable to walk for most of the day. What's unfortunate is that I had a great doctor, nurse and radiologist, just some other nurse who I had not seen all night had to come in and put me through his "tests." I'm hoping to get a name to make a formal complaint. read more

This past Saturday my son competed in a College Rodeo there in Uvalde. During the Rodeo he was bucked off the Saddle Bronc horse he was riding and was Stepped on pretty badly in the middle of his upper back. At the time there was no EMS to be found at the Rodeo. After seeing my son stomped on and basiclly semi drugged out of the arena, once he came to his sense's. I was waiting for the EMS people to meet him ,Normally at the shutes? After around 10 minutes of not seeing him moving around behind the Shutes, I decide to check on him myself. When I made it behind the shutes I found my son doubled over trying to take of his equipment. I asked him if he was aright, he told me he was having a hard time Breathing and could not lift his arms. At this point I climb on top of the chutes to look for the EMS crew. Nothing no crew no nothing at this point I take him to the hospital there in Uvalde on my own. THis is where the fun begins. We arrive at 9:05 pm he was met and lead back to a room # 2 when I walk in there was one other person being treated. non emergency as far as I could tell. The doctor is in our room does her exam and orders a cat scan and x rays, at this point it is 9:18 doctor leaves never to return ? After 2 hours setting there watching my son in horrible pain and struggling with breathing. I thought maybe from the pain. My wife walks out and asks is there any one that could update us and help him with his pain . shortly after that a women not a nurse comes in and say's we are being discharged and the doctor is getting a prescribtion ready to take with us. Another 15 minutes go by my wife asks again. The same person comes in and asked my son if setting up would maybe help? so we try to pull him up, but he doubles over and starts to tear up from the pain. she puts her hand o his back and says you be ok and walks out of the room! Time goes by we ask once more if there is Anything that could be done to make him comfortable. At this point a man walks in with a fist full of shots and says he's starting a IV. We ask him why a IV when we were told we were leaving. We ask to speak to the Doctor to find out whats going on please. He leave's never to be seen again.. On a side note the treating doctor was on the computer at the nurse's station the Whole time for the last hour. everytime we opened the door there she sat. At this point we left. only to later find out that our son had collased lungs and fractured ribs I think around 5 ! They had all our cells and chose to leave the message about his injury on our home phone 3 1/2 hours away. Once we got to our home town heard the message of wha he has ans that he shuod be taken to a ER instanitly. we took him to our Hospital were they put in in a Ambulance to Austin to treat his possible life threatening injury's ? They are so Crappy they didn't call our cell so we could have taken him to San Antonio if we would have know the existent of the inury's. Insted of hauling him the 31/2 hours to our city. when we left there were 4 people in the ER... We could have lost our son on the trip home. And the doctor couldn't get off her ass and tell us that when we announced we were leaving to seek treatment else were. There only concern was I need to sign some waivers which I did not such thing. read more
